New thrust on maintaining platforms of energy, agriculture, tourism and enhanced citizenship

Roseau, Dominica – November 17, 2008…….. Dominica’s Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit has laid out his vision for Dominica as the Government seeks to build a modern economy in the face of mounting challenges in the international arena.

In his Address to the Nation at the Parade of Uniformed Groups on November 3^rd 2008, the Prime Minister said that at the national level, “the new thrust must be based on maintaining platforms of energy, agriculture, tourism and enhanced citizenship“.

Roseau, Dominica – November 14, 2008…….. In his address to the Nation at the Parade of Uniformed Groups on Independence Day, November 3^rd 2008, Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit stated that due to the major changes that have taken place in the world’s political and economic architecture in the last thirty years, changes are needed to respond to the challenges of the modern era.

Roseau, Dominica – November 13, 2008…….. Mr. Raymond Lawrence and the Dubique Cultural Group were jointly awarded the prestigious Edward Oliver Leblanc Trophy for their contribution to Dominica’s culture at the 2008 National Cultural Gala at the Botanic Gardens in Roseau on Sunday, November 2^nd 2008.

The National Cultural Gala is one of the highlights of the independence activities when all groups from all over the island converge on one stage to display their talents in the varied manifestations of Dominica’s rich cultural heritage.

Roseau, Dominica – November 7, 2008……….Minister for Trade, Senator, Dr. Colin McIntyre has highlighted the  collaborative  work between  the Ministries of Agriculture and Trade and other partners  to ensure  that Dominica has the quantum and quality supplies to service both the domestic and export markets.

Hon. McIntyre made the disclosure at one of the signature events of the Reunion Independence 2008 activities- Market Day with a Difference in Roseau last Saturday.

Mrs Paulina Williams named 2008 Cultural Elder

Roseau, Dominica – November 10, 2008…….. President of Dominica, His Excellency,      Dr. Nicholas Liverpool, Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Alix Boyd-Knights were among dignitaries at Heritage Day in Delices on Sunday, October 26, 2008.

The day featured a Church Service in the morning, followed by an Agricultural, Industrial and Artistic Exhibition at noon and climaxed with a spectacular Cultural Gala and the honouring of a Cultural Elder in the afternoon.

Roseau, Dominica … November 07, 2008………Minister for Public Utilities, Energy and Ports, Hon. Charles Savarin, on November 07, 2008, signed three (3) financing agreements for a 4 million euro grant, with the Agence Francaise de Developpment (AFD) and the Fonds Francais pour l’Environnement Mondial (FFEM), for the further development of the geothermal energy project in the Wotten Waven area of Dominica.

Roseau, Dominica – November 7, 2008……….In recognition of the role  the agricultural sector plays in the important areas of income generation and food security in Dominica, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Hon. Matthew Walter has outlined initiatives and programmes being undertaken by Government to boost that sector.

Hon. Walter made the remarks in an address at Market Day with a Difference at the Roseau market last Saturday.
