DOMINICA POLICE FORCE RECEIVES FIFTEEN NEW VEHICLES FROM GOVERNMENT

vehicles_handed_over_on_dec_14_2007.jpgRoseau , Dominica – January 9,  2008………………..The ability of the Police to  maintain law and order has been greatly enhanced with the provision of fifteen new vehicles to the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force by  the Government of Dominica in the last three months.

 

On Friday, December 14, 2007, six new vehicles were handed over to the Police Force by Minister for National Security, Labour and Immigration, Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore. This handover of vehicles followed hot on the heels of the provision of six vehicles by the Government to the Police. a few weeks earlier.

 

And at a short ceremony at the Police Training School at Morne three_additional_vehicles_handed_over_jan_2008.jpgBruce on Monday, January 7, 2008, Hon. Blackmoore handed the keys for another three (3) vehicles to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Matthias Lestrade.

 

Speaking at the handing over of the additional three vehicles on Monday, Minister for National Security, Hon. Rayburn Blackmoore announced the provision of additional resources to the Police as well as investments in the construction of a new Police Station in Grand Bay  and repairs and alterations to  Police Stations in Soufriere, St. Joseph and Calibishie in the months ahead.

 

In the next few weeks Government will provide a 30-seater bus to the Police Force. A Scenes of Crime vehicle costing $334,000, equipped with all the tools necessary to enhance investigations towards the solving of crimes will also be provided. (ENDS)

THE WORLD HAS CHANGED SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE DOMINICA WAS GRANTED NDEPENDENCE.

pmskrt.jpgRoseau , Dominica – January 7,  2008………………..In his address to the Reunion Wivé activity on January 1, 2008, Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit told Dominicans that the world Dominica operated in when it gained independence nearly thirty years ago had changed significantly.

 

“This great clarion call to visit the homeland is being sent out at a critical juncture in our history and in our development. This harsh reality is that the Dominica that is our home today is not, cannot and should not be the same Dominica that Britain handed over to us in 1978. The world in which Dominica now has to operate is a changed place,” the Prime Minister stated.

DOMINICANS CELEBRATE REUNION WIVÉ AS THE COUNTRY ENTERS ITS 30TH YEAR AS AN INDEPENDENT NATION

kalingo_child_prepares_to_light_reunion_torch.jpgRoseau, Dominica – January 1,  2008………………..Not even intermittent showers were enough to stop hundreds of Dominicans from  converging  on the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard in Roseau from 3 am on January 1, 2008 for Reunion Wivé-  an activity full of symbolism,  heralding the start of a year long programme of activities in commemoration of Dominica’s 30th Anniversary of Independence.

 

The Eugenia Charles Boulevard was impressively decorated with arches as well as representations and illustrations of Dominican and Caribbean life and culture.

The highlight of Reunion Wivé was the arrival of the Reunion Torch on a Kalinago Flotilla of canoes after which the Carib Chief of Dominica, Mr. Charles Williams symbolically handed over the Torch to the Prime Minister of Dominica, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit in full view of the hundreds gathered to witness this  historic event.
