Stakeholders in the banana industry sign Memorandum of Understanding

Matthew Walter, to avert a collapse of the banana industry in Dominica, has resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Dominica Banana Producers Limited (DBPL) and the Dominica National Fairtrade Organisation (DNFTO).

Hon. Charles Savarin Speaks of impact of world economic crisis on Dominica’s economy

charles_savarin.jpgRoseau, Dominica – October 13, 2009……… Minister for Public Utilities, Energy and Ports, Hon. Charles Savarin has said the global economic crisis is having a negative impact on Small Island Developing States like Dominica.

Hon. Savarin made the disclosure at the 10th EDF Mid-Term Review and Country Portfolio Meeting at the Fort Young Hotel recently. Mr. Savarin spoke on behalf of Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit.

$100 million West Coast Road project set to begin before year end

Rayburn Blackmoore, acting on behalf of the Government of Dominica, has signed a contract with a Chinese construction firm, China Railway 17 Bureau Group Co. Ltd for the construction of a modern highway from the Capital City of Roseau to the Town of Portsmouth.

Small Island states militant about climate deals for Copenhagen

dessima_williams_chair_of_the_alliance_of_small_islands_developing_states_aosis.jpgOctober 7, 2009: Bangkok (Panos) – The Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) including the Caribbean yesterday said that they had marshalled almost 100 countries to support their call for more ambitious emission reduction targets in the new deal to be struck on climate change in Copenhagen in December.

“The AOSIS is not waiting on others to put in the targets to protect us,” said AOSIS chair, Dessima Williams while expressing disappointment at the slow pace of talks in Bangkok and the lack of a sense of urgency in the negotiations.

Dominica and the EU review EDF Portfolio
