Opening up the economy to solve this will not work if you do not have the confidence of the majority of your population.

@Raymond Anguiano My mistake – over 400,000 people were allowed to travel between US and China, including 40K Americans.
      That’s EVEN WORSE!
      “travel ban”…PFF! 🤪👎

@Lando Calrissian Are you classist? Do you hate poor states? Is that what’s up, elitist?

Oh, nah. You picked AL and MS because of black people. Gotcha.

Also, you have a poor conception of how taxes work.

    • Lando Calrissian | May 7, 2020 at 12:22 PM | Reply

michaelatw86 i could have picked a bunch of places like West Virginia and Kentucky. Fact remains that most red states do not generate enough revenue to pay their own bills and have to come to the feds for the rest. That money comes from the blue states and their tax revenue. I know how taxes work, I paid almost $180k in them this go round including payroll and unemployment taxes so you enjoy that stimulus check and don’t spend it all in one place now you hear?

You’ve been working for this tirelessly, so the peasants don’t get any more ideas moving forward.

    • Nah. But I do grant that they built a FRAGILE economy and repeatedly called it “great,” for about 4 decades.

    • You have very little faith in the peasants to know how to think for themselves.

    • The economy has been turned off, everybody’s in the basement because of the China virus. Economy made out of solid steel won’t work very well if it’s turned off! Click. OFF.

That doesn’t include most gig workers number will jump to 48-50 million .

    • cause and an effect | May 7, 2020 at 6:26 PM | Reply

More to follow I’m guessing around 70 + million when economies and small buisneses start opening up

  8. Even if you open up all businesses, will everything go back to normal? Would people really want to go back to commuting on trains, eating at buffets, traveling on cruises, drinking at bars, and getting haircuts when the know what might happen?

The psychological fear should also be factored in.

Randy Ly Randy, where I live in south Texas, nobody is afraid, nobody wears masks nobody stays home, my job, business has tripled. Randy I say this from the heart, most people are stupid, they will not be afraid. They should be afraid, but their IQ is low

    • I dunno but the sneezing and coughing from allergy season here really is freaking people out lol.

    • I’m chilling, I go to work and grocery stores with PPE, I come home. Since I garden, I’ll visit home depot. No movies, salons, malls or unnecessary visits. Some take it seriously some not so seriously. As for me and my house, we’re taking it seriously.

    • Stay in the basement with an enormous cache of toilet paper?
Somebody somewhere will have to produce, food, truck it off where someone will sell it to somebody who’ll slide it down the stairs into my mom’s basement. I’ll be fine.

  9. POVERTY KILLS TOO! If even one percent of the people who have lost their income from this shutdown die because of hunger, homelessness or suicide it will DWARF the number allegedly killed by this virus.

    • What percentage of the US was already in poverty BEFORE covid-19? Millions of people spend most of their lives in poverty alive, but if they catch the virus, many will have 2-3 weeks to live.

1 out of 10 americans are in need of unicef. or a universal basic income economy structure designed to replace the debt based economic structure

pertaining to the universal basic income economy figuring update:

timely pyramid update: (assembling price ranges of groups of 5 per “shuffle” towards up according to supply to even out income distribution for gains accordingly) do one price range, figuring both price ranges, at a time for easier or quicker escalation figuring. 5×50¢->3×60¢ (because of dividing 2×50¢ as one 50¢ share paying 30¢, 10¢ to each of the 3 undivided 50¢ and the other divided 50¢ pays 10¢ or 20¢ to the 50¢ that was divided to the 3 undivided 50¢ shares while the 3×50¢ become 3×60¢ as and while the 2 divided 50¢ shares do not drop all the way to 10¢ shares as lenience for the reducing values to not cause increasing the amount of turns necessary to increase tax revenue by collecting 10¢ from each share at a designated peak relating quantity of 50¢ shares in the input “bin” to cycle the last ones out of the economic stimulus program to gain also.) divide 1 at par and 1 40¢ lower to meet at 30¢ lower per price ranging accordingly when dividing from above 50¢ or amount figured systematically sustainable.

  12. 33 million jobless claims is grossly misleading number as it does not include unemployed gig and part-time workers. Conservatively the number of unemployed Americans is double that. Trump turned the US economy into a dumpster fire.

    • Fahim Ahmad | May 7, 2020 at 12:40 PM | Reply

@Pink Guy The economy was flooded w/ part-time crappy jobs to fix the numbers and Trump’s federal gov cut unemployment eligibility to bring the numbers down… Well, now the rickety Trump economy has fallen flat w/ 1 catastrophe and there is no easy comeback… It took Pres. Obama 3 YEARS to fix W. Bush/Cheney’s 2008 F**K UP! This is WORSE!😈👎

    • coop awhip | May 7, 2020 at 6:51 PM | Reply

you mean the chinese and the democrats trashed it. Dont worry your silly little head though, Trump will fix it

    • @coop awhip Nope, Trump destroyed the economy. It was 100% Trump, MAGAt.

    • The China virus is why people are sitting in the basement. You want to lay blame? China virus came from China moron. Blame China simpleton.

    • @Fahim Ahmad. You know nothing. Be quiet, behave and go back in momma’s basement. Unemployment was at record lows. Stay in the basement. You’re not even a U. S. citizen. You’re in the basement in one of the garbage countries. Have your mom explain knothead.

  13. This is what happens when an entire nation buys things they don’t need, with money they don’t have to impress people who don’t care. Strong enconomy????? I think not.

    • Tim Noyes but a virus caused this unemployment not the economy. There was nothing wrong with it but now it’s collapsing because businesses are losing money hence people not working and not spending

    • You miss the point.
The virus did not make people run out of money so fast. Within two weeks a lot of people had no money, lined up in food lines, couldn’t pay their rent and don’t know what they are going to do. Half the country can’t afford four hundred dollars for an emergency. The virus didn’t cause that.
      A weak economy did.

    • @A M ? Well said? Spoken like a true knucklehead.

    • And then, there are people like you. Sadly.

    • Tim Noyes I have been stunned that so many businesses have not set aside emergency funds and people but everybody has tons of junk they don’t need.

    • @ Jessica Ang …you must be really ignorant to blame Trump for COVID-19 and the losses we have all felt from it…..this was going to happen (as it happened all over the world) regardless of who was president and what was done….
