An audio recording of British and Iranian naval authorities radioing instructions to a UK-flagged oil tanker just moments before it was seized in the Strait of Hormuz has surfaced.
In the radio exchange, what is believed to be an Iranian vessel can be heard telling a British Royal Navy frigate that it wants to inspect the Stena Impero for security reasons, and orders it to "alter its course."
The British side quickly reacted by warning that, under international law, the vessel's passage "must not be impaired."
The tanker captured by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is now at the center of a widening row between Iran and Britain.

Turnible Spencer your facts are convoluted! 1-it was an EU sanctions against Seria. Iran is not part of the EU. 2- The sanctions call EU countries not SELL oil to Seria. There’s no proof Iran was Selling oil to Seria-maybe they were just giving it away. 3- the pirated Iranian vessel is not compatible with the Serian ports in question. 4- the Iranian ship was in international waters far from U.K. 5- UK is no longer part of EU and can not enforce EU regulations.
On the other hand, the British tanker collided with an Iranian fishing boat and did not reply to the distress calls made by the injured boat (hit and run!)

The UN sent peace keepers to Bosnia Somalia Rwanda etc. They can and have enforced things. @kesofat Yes a country can seize a ship going to a country that it has sanctions if that ship is in its waters, not international waters. Spain has already announced that if they knew the Iranian ship was breaking EU sanctions they would have seized it when it was in their waters.
If you are redirecting the issue to the specifics of the sanctions you can read up on EU sanctions which do allow oil for civil use if applied for and approved. But Iran did not notify and apply. The thing is your are questioning the seizure which was legal and correct, when it sounds like you have issue with the sanctions.
