Amazon rainforest burning at record rate

Fires are raging at a record rate in Brazil's Amazon rainforest, and scientists warn that it could strike a devastating blow to the fight against climate change.
The fires are burning at the highest rate since the country's space research center, the National Institute for Space Research (known by the abbreviation INPE), began tracking them in 2013, the center said.
There have been 72,843 fires in Brazil this year, with more than half in the Amazon region, INPE said. That's more than an 80% increase compared with the same period last year.
The Amazon is often referred to as the planet's lungs, producing 20% of the oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere.
It is considered vital in slowing global warming, and it is home to uncountable species of fauna and flora. Roughly half the size of the United States, it is the largest rainforest on the planet.

    1. Trump made secret trips to the Amazon. Trump has a double that stands in for him at press conferences & for CNN but the real Trump is a pyromaniac

    1. @Maccroquette35 it’s too late. The Bible prophesize that this world will end and a new Theocratic government will establish itself. This was set in motion thousands of years ago… But that’s fine, just put your trust in mankind and see where that will get you. I’m interested in showing people the scriptures so they can put it together in their mind, but every time I make a comment about the Bible and Bible prophecy, I get ignorant comments telling me how ignorant I am when people have no idea my background in scientific research. Even scientists have come to realize that we are not the ultimate power. But that’s what I get for putting God’s word out there… Apparently, doing the same thing that we’ve been doing for hundreds of years is going to save us and continuing to believe in humanity is going to save us LOL

    2. @Jorge of Albion you don’t have reading comprehension skills, do you? I’ve said several times that science and God are congruent. You have no idea what my scientific background is, yet you spew stupidity. You sound like the stupid one. You look to mankind to solve your problems, but don’t look for any other Solutions. How is Humanity working out for you? How is your trust in the government working for you? I’ll wait…

    3. @Kalib Williams I’m not attacking your Bible buddy I’m pointing out that referring to man made climate change as prophecy is dangerous because it implies that we can’t do anything about it when in fact we have the power to stop it.

  1. This is insanely scary, the Amazon is home to many rare and endangered species and they’re all at risk. Also it provides 20% of the earth’s oxygen

    1. Fires are a natural part of a forest ecosystem cycle, sometimes even necessary. many seeds, especially certain pine cones require fires in order to activate. The ash also fertilizes the ground so it grows back stronger. I remember when Yellowstone burnt down they tried to politicize it and blame the government for not doing enough, in the end it grew back, as it always does.

  2. Who’s to blame us Humans we killing Mother Nature 🌍 one by one. We should be a shame our self.😢😢😢

    1. @brian gardner even tho I’m not a activist, but this pisses me off and these people should die and the assholes that mocks sensitive activists. And yes they need to die or be sanctioned.

    2. @brian gardner Sorry, but the Amazon still belongs to Brasil. Eventhough I am against this crime, we should stay out of it.

    3. Brazilians say: ‘Why should we we the only ones who have to take care of the rain forest?? When its existence and maintenance is in everybodies best interest. Yet Europe and the USA for instance have hád their industrial revolutions; have already destroyed most of their natural habitats in order to stimulate the economy. And now WE in Brazil need to put our economy on hold to protect the rain forest?’ Despicable as all this is (it nearly made me cry seeing the images of the poor animals, people and nature affected) all the countries in the world should agree on an annual donation for countries like Brazil, in exchange for an ironclad contract. Brazil gets compensated by all of us for loss of earnings and in return they leave the rain forests alone. The international funds can be used to pay farmers and to use for their own economy and social systems. That needs to be organized soon..

    4. Lore Strahan usually yes, but this doesn’t just effect Brazil this effects every living thing on earth, this needs to be stopped. Military action needs to be taken to protect what little we have left

    1. In 100 years technology wont require fossil fuels , the forest fires are astonishing because it’s a fucking rain forest the place usually floods cities and towns but soon the fire will be put out but it’s not that we should ban cows

    2. Forests will grow back as long as people allow them. The danger here is that someone is going to get the bright idea to develop the burned land claim it’s useless now.

    3. @Heino Henrik Madsen Oh no! someone made you view an opinion that came from outside your little bubble where everybody agrees with you! (panicked breaths)
We both know you’re only claiming to have blocked me because you don’t have an argument.

    1. Dhruv Babariya no man it is man man made, Brazil gov. & President Jair Bolsonaro is responsible for this (for me & for many), some say leftist, & the other hand Bolsonaro claims that NGOs r behind this!!

    2. Rodrigo Rodriguez yes man whatever is happening to this world nowaday most of the people are responsible for this

  3. Greed will eventually be the death of us ON THIS PLANET. I’m pretty sure he’s made trumps friend list 🌎

    1. CNN made it public after they bashed Trump apparently Trump saying 1 word is more important to investigate than a month of forest fires.

  4. The Amazonian tribes recently won a lawsuit against big oil to prevent deforestation.

I don’t think this is an accident. Not at all.

    1. Ya let’s start a revolution. We can cover our faces with black masks and firebomb a starbucks. That will show them evil capitalist white supremacist devils.

    2. @Thomas Armsworthy Jr those forests exists since milions of years. You are right, it will grow again, but it’s gonna be very long

    3. So you want to attack another country for doing what they want to do on their own land? Where do you live? I bet there were trees there before they built your house you privileged bih.

  5. *Our glaciers are melting, forests are burning, and extreme record weather across the globe. How can people still value money more than life? Your money will do nothing in the end. We are in crisis and need more then thoughts and prayers. I fear for the sad world , if any, left behind to our children.*

    1. @AsapKarma My friend, perhaps you should practice more introspection. You watch the World through a tiny little box and act as if you know everything that is going on. I’ll be just fine, thank you.

  6. It’s really hard to breathe here, it’s a lot of smoke! Oh and another, Bolsonaro is the worst president in the world! I hope he dies as soon as possible.

  7. This is worth going to war over. That’s where we get our oxygen from. No matter what your politics, I think we’d all agree that we would like to keep breathing.

    1. Let’s start a war alright and bring down the US empire and its bitches (UK and other European countries) – they’ve been supporting neoliberalism and US puppets in Latin America like Bozonaro and Guaidó and imposing sanctions against countries that dare to be independent and sovereign like Venezuela, that want to decide what to do with their own resources like petroleum. Trump is the only one in support of his puppet Jair Bozonaro. Nobody else likes him. Former President from the pink tide, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has been held hostage/imprisoned through a bogus trial without any evidence against him (Lawfare) and kept out of elections so Bozonaro could get into power and bring back Brazil as a submissive colony to the US. Too late to cry/pray for the Amazon now, you should’ve seen this coming.

    2. @TheNajSD Is that what you call them in places with a low black population? Your clearly a dope. Good luck with that.

  8. I remember a anti-smoking TV ad that said ” If you CAN’T breathe nothing else matters “. I think It applies here as well .
