@Moon Over Miami It’s illegal for any president to withhold Congressionally-approved money for any reason. Congress writes in the funding papers certain things the receiving country has to do before they get the money & in this case, Congress had already decided that Ukraine had met those needs & approved the money to be given.
However, Trump decided to hold the money until the president of Ukraine announced that they were going to investigate the Bidens–that is 2 illegal things: 1. a president withholding Congressionally-approved funds & 2. attempted bribery.
When government officials would ask why the money was being held, Trump & his top officials would not say.
Donald Trump & Rudy Giuliani said on television that they were looking into the Bidens in Ukraine. Donald Trump’s top officials, that he hired: 1 said that “I want no part of whatever drug deal they’re cooking up.” & then he quit. Another said they were holding the aid money until they got the investigation & that “We do this all the time.” Another told Trump (official government business on an unsecured, regular cell phone), that he had talked to the president of Ukraine & the president of Ukraine had agreed to do whatever Trump wanted–which was to say on television that they were going to investigate the Bidens. Trump had said that he didn’t really care if they did the investigation, he just wanted to be sure the president of Ukraine said on television that they were going to & then he’d give them the Congressionally-approved taxpayers’ money that he had withheld for 55 days.
A top official in the White House learned of what Trump was doing & reported it. When Trump & his top officials learned that this was about to go public, they gave the money to Ukraine, Trump said he didn’t want anything from Ukraine, & the president of Ukraine cancelled his appointment with CNN (where he was going to announce the investigation).
You can choose to read the writing on the wall or you can choose to pretend a wall doesn’t exist, but that doesn’t make the wall disappear to everyone else.
