  1. People coming from all over the world to SXSW right now is just a bad idea. Good call, keep Austin weird but safe.

    1. DigitalSynapse0101 why are you talking about garage bands? U in one? Why alternative? U like that? Why tuning? Can you not tune? Sounds like ur projecting.

    2. Bacons Strip yes it is, so is being locked up on a boat or at home or in a hospital over a non existent threat. You can lock yourself in a room and not attend any fun events, we’ll just keep crushing

  2. It’s a major hit, to our economy in Austin, but the impact on the Real, local music scene, is nil! It might even help the local players gig more, instead of leaving town so the amateurs can come and play to play.

  3. Chicago canceled the houseware show. They host every year it’s the biggest moneymaker for the city with an estimated $150 million.
    Yikes!!

    1. Austin has now cancelled SXSW, which nets an annual profit of $355 million last year. Just last night I heard of two other festivals with combined attendance of over 1 million people that have been cancelled. I think that was in Florida. We are in unbelievable trouble in every way.

  4. Thank God they cancelled SXSW. I work in Austin, live near Austin, and was fully prepared to walk off my job if SXSW was held.

    1. @Jake Roberts I just told you. The average Trump supporter is hanging on his every word and won’t listen to anyone else. This translates into denial, which translates into lack of preparedness, which will lead to a differential morbidity/mortality rate. IOW, the Democrats already have all the face masks and disinfectant. I work in a Democratic town, live in a Republican town. I can tell you the average Trump supporter doesn’t have the remotest clue. I hope Trump is proven right about this disease abating somewhat when the weather warms, there is some hope of that, but even if it does it will roar back next fall and we STILL won’t be prepared.

    2. @Grim Concept I believe firmly that extraordinary steps will be taken to ensure he is not elected again, let me put it that way.

    3. amity 150 Trump supporters are going to suffer more because they are old. His rallies are like a sea of white hair, and people in their 70s and 80s have 10%+ death rates from this thing.

America is going to get a haircut from coronavirus before this is all said and done, and quite a few old people are going to die.

  5. Thank you for being safe an bot sorry Texas I hope we can show the rest of the country how folks should operate…

  6. Austin you are the very best of the USA.you put your people over money thank you. You put your lying fake POTUS to shame.god bless all.

    1. Jean McGlennon .. Not really. It’s a nut job mecca. Lib signs in yards:(hate doesn’t live here) all over year round. Any republican sign will be yanked immediately. Oh hate lives there. Trust me.

  7. Well as you say… Some ones death is some ones else bread. People will just spend there money on something else.

  8. I live in Austin. The mayor isn’t popular and he knows it. This decision took some balls.

    1. @LAST CALL yeah hate rallies, a gathering of a group of racists, bigots and lemmings. In a just world one of those rallies would be crushed by a huge asteroid.

    2. @skrapyard444

*It sounds like you have a lot of hatred, racism and bigotry inside of yourself.*

*You hate people that have a different opinion than you.*

*You are racist towards Trump supporters that that happen to be a very diverse group of people made up of different races.*

*You are intolerant of other’s intolerance, that is bigotry.*

*But the only one that any of that hurts is you, your are a very small and insignificant person.*

  9. Huge impact….. Slow season for down town Austin waiter / waitress most days 30 -50 bucks….. compared to 200-300 dollars working working a double 10-15 hrs sometimes in one shift 5 -6hr If your good you will double that like I did most days.. but I worked 15-18 he days. During SXSW , ACL, games, ect….

  10. Texas being retro active unlike those city’s and state most affected .LA. and NYC don’t give a crap about there neighbors or they would be limiting travel in and out themselves.
Austin hasn’t had anything near as many cases as those two city’s.

  11. My daughter lives in Austin, sure hope she is safe from this pandemic. She is young and healthy so she should be OK.

  12. Pretty funny blaming trump for this ,,if hillary or biden , bernie or the mighty obama were pres ,,,this would still be happening .. started in china , got out of control quickly ,, here we are ,
