Just a bit late. Not the right guy to say. Probably wrong. Why is this happening today?
They need to scrape up some old garbage off of the road to present as a parting gift to the sycophants.
David – December 21, 1988; I was at a friend’s house and got the news. Someone I knew – well – was on that plane. THAT is why he made the announcement today. That is why he asked Trump to be able to stay on, to the 23rd. So he could make this announcement, TODAY, on the anniversary. He has been working this case – well (maybe his ONE positive legacy he has left) since his time as A.G. under G.H.W. Bush. I believe that he and Mueller (how’s that for little known irony) have been working this, together, and meeting with the families, on the anniversary, for many years.
So he could say no special counsels are needed cause they’ve already buried all the criminal BIG stuff of the last 8 years.
@howard damico It still makes little sense for him to bring it out himself at the present time. The Administration has little direct credibility and Barr has less than that considering how he is now no longer Trumps man. He might be trying to do the one good act of his late career, but (aside from you and me) few people know about Lockerby and fewer still care about it.
There may be incontrovertible evidence against the man. He might have done all that is said he did. But it remains that this comes in the waning days of an administration which had ample time to bring this forward and which did not. Those who think Barr a corrupt A.G. now have one more thing to talk about.
Mine was a question. Why today? I am inclined to believe this is yet another diversion, another change of the subject, another Trumpist tactic in a world where his playbook is well understood. Trump would gladly throw himself under the bus if he thinks the outcome is slightly better than the day before.
@David Smith Yes, we agree on William Barr, and his legacy. We just disagree on the glasses we use to view today’s announcement. You are viewing the announcement through the prism of today’s politics. I am viewing it through my memory of December 21, 1988; what I knew before, and what came after.

Bill Barr did look at the claims of election fraud but, just like the judges, he came to the conclusion that these claims are baseless. Just by repeating over and over that there is fraud doesn’t make it so. There has to be evidence and you will have convince the judges of it in court.
