The family of Patrick Lyoya, the Congolese refugee who was shot by a Grand Rapids police officer during a traffic stop earlier this month, called for the officer to be identified, fired and arrested.

The video of the shooting "was the most horrifying thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life," said Thomas Lyoya, Patrick's younger brother, during a Thursday news conference.

  1. But details of this are being ignored. He had a gun a weapon and shot at the police. Would they cry and go to his or her Funeral??????

    1. Liz, don’t spread fake nonsense. He was unarmed. But being unarmed doesn’t mean you can do what ever you want. He earned his death. Cop was justified to use lethal force. You spreading this nonsense only adds to the stupidity of the people who are defending the criminal.

    1. Have some Hope and they want to be negative and Hate police. But when people are in Danger They call 911. They callPolice. I am Disappointed in their Ignorance. With the Dad. Sorry you lost your son. To the Creeps whom Exploit this. Shame on You.

  2. It was your son‘s fault he refused to listen to the officer reply I received the consequences that is the law in America

    1. No worries. Then there will be no complaining when tables turn and the victims of police brutality are your children.

    2. My kids which are grown know how to be responsible, obey the law and act accordingly. They know better than to resist a police officer, take his taser abs so on…. 😂

  3. This is just another example of if the person would have just complied none of this would have happened

  4. Imagine not breaking laws, and when you do following police orders. If he stayed in his car he would still be alive. Simple

    1. @Jameel lol you sound like that guy who ran all them people over in Wisconsin and that dude who just shot up that train in NYC. Black Israelites are the funniest people alive. That’s what happens when we shut down mental wards.

  5. If I one resisted arrest (which is a felony under state law in MI) I could expect some serious consequences. If I wrestled with the officer and got their taser (weapon) then all events following my actions rest on me alone. I do identify as “invisible” and I am my own “fact checker”. So please if you “disagree” just know that this comment is forever like “opposite day” so if you “disagree” it means you actually “agree” with me.

  6. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Sucks that a life was lost but kid got what he deserved. Take some responsibility you people.

  7. Frank James shot and injured 13 people then complied with police and
    he’s still alive………..
    See how that works.

  8. He acted suspicious from the very beginning. He had mismatched plates, he ran, he resisted, he fought with the officer. The officer gave him clear commands to stop resisting, and to stop fighting for control of the taser. He gave him every chance to stop.

He forced the officer’s hand. It is absolutely obnoxious that anyone, including his own family, would try to claim the officer did anything wrong.

  9. NOT Complying is NOT cause for immidiate DEATH! Threat of IMMINENT DEATH must be present or serious bodily injury! OFFICER had suspect on all fours at time of death.
