Bernie Sanders Faces Backlash Over Fidel Castro Remarks | Morning Joe | MSNBC

    1. @Catherine Rohwedder Bernie Sanders has stated time and time again that he doesn’t approve of brutal dictators and has frequently called them out for their war crimes. He pointed to a drop of good done in a bucket of bad. It’s not praising Castro. There is more context to this story that’s not being heard. Bernie=Bad is the current narrative being pushed by the higher ups. Life is much more nuanced than this reductive bit a drama.

    2. The only people supporting Bernie Sanders are dumb millennials with a sense of entitlement, and elderly hippies with no work ethic.

  1. I hope Bernie dismisses the so called “Backlash” in the debates when it comes up and I am sure it will….without apologizing for it

    1. When the media try making the logical thing Burnie said out of context in the next debate Burnie next logical statement should be we all love George Washington for a lot of things he did but he and most of the forefathers own slaves and supported the slave Trade which was very evil and bad so just like Castro George Washington implemented some good and evil things Cuba under Fidal Castro helped free Mandela and stop the evil Apartheid so just like George Washington Fidal Castro did good and bad.

    2. @Igor bardales yes, tighten the ranks, we must ensure our purity tests are well calibrated. No white males allowed! Certainly no heterosexual ones.

    1. Because Obama was not going to run against Trump. Just imagine Trump repeating ‘Communist Bernie turning America into a Communist country’ … for 3 months till Nov

  2. This was supposed to be a show about a “democrat” and a “republican” having political conversations and debates. But they had an affair and got married.

Clearly everyone here is a centrist neoliberal no one wants.

Why is Morning Joe even still a thing? Joe and Mika represent absolutely no one in the political landscape.

    1. Yeah, they’re gross. This is probably the 4th time I’ve made the mistake of clicking on one of their videos. I’ll be more careful in the future, but I’m glad to see the comments.

    2. Speak Truth look up “The Hill” on youtube. That channel is basically everything Morning Joe is supposed to be

  3. Scarborough is coming off as another Chris Matthews. These anchors show their true establishment colors when they cry like this.

  4. It’s funny how “Backlash” has now become the media just trying to smear Bernie. The real backlash has been on the Candidates you guys push on Network. Kamala, Booker, Biden, and Pete next. Keep it up though. I’m sure it will stick eventually.

  5. They forgot to say what Bernie said right after that he was against authoritarian leaders. DID YOU HEAR THAT PART????? He is not a communist!!! He just wants to HELP the poor and middle class worker!!! I’m donating to Bernie Sanders. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

    1. He said venezuela is the only country on earth where people live the american dream. He retracted that in 2014 but he still said it.

    2. @Brad Mac None of these people believe what they hear/see on CNN and MSNBC, it’s all fake outrage because they didn’t win in 2016. It’s the equivalent of ur kid making a scene at the grocery store cuz didn’t get candy.

    3. Are you daft? Look on mitch mcconnell’s desk and view all the bipartisan bills waiting for the senate to vote on.

    4. @Rhonda Crockett Yes, you were dropped on your head one too many times. Or maybe you are being paid to be obtuse…stubborn, difficult, divisive, shall I go on?

    5. @Rhonda Crockett You are choosing to see things in such a dark way. The republicans took away school funding. Immigrants wouldn’t be illegals if republicans would stop creating chaos around the world and at the borders and allow these desperate people legal entry. We are a country founded on immigration. It is our diversity that makes us strong. You really need to do more research and check your facts unless you just like being TOTALLY WRONG!

    1. @9000ck , doesn’t matter. Why does he rip on billionaires and never brings up the good things they have done? Also, his literacy program was based off of “learn to read or die”. They did not have a choice. If I held a gun to your head I bet you will learn to read as well.

  6. “The United States recognizes progress that Cuba has made as a nation, its enormous achievements in education and in health care”. -Barack Obama

    1. @w4fjhDU514I1 Maybe at the time that was true but now people just want someone who won’t lie to their face. If Bernie sees positive aspect regarding cuba ok I mean we flat out trade with communist china.

  7. Joes whole rant is disingenuous. He knows the rest of that clip addresses everything he brought up. This is just blatantly dishonest

  8. “The United States recognizes progress that Cuba has made as a nation, its enormous achievements in education and in health care.”
    — President Obama

    1. @Pr3ssPl4y , he has praised Castro many times along with other dictators. Obama is praising the country of Cuba who was under different leadership besides Cuba. There was political motive to Obama’s comment. Also, Bernie is praising Fidel in that he increased literacy, but the way he did it was by killing off many citizens and creating fear. Hitler being a good painter is different than saying Hitler grew the economy of Germany. He did, but through the genocide.

As for Bernie praising communism, watch the ReasonTV video entitled

“Why Bernie Sanders’ Communist Misadventures Still Matter”

There are many quotes of him praising Ortega and Castro and praising the Soviet Unions. The video started out with Bernie praising bread lines. You can claim that source is bias, but those are literal quotes by him. How can you defend him?

    2. @whyamimrpink78 Lol, at 20 seconds in and already he makes too much sense, I’ll watch and critique it later or even tomorrow. Right now I’m watching the debates.

    3. @Pr3ssPl4y , so him saying that breadlines are good make sense? Watch more. He shortly praises Castro after the 20 second mark.

    4. @Pr3ssPl4y , it is as clear as it gets. He defended Castro and Ortega. He opposed charities. He opposed millionaires until he becomes one himself. His excuse was that he sold a best selling book. How many people have that ability? His book sales are due mainly due his name. If I wrote a book what is the chance is sales compared to Bernie writing a book? Be honest.

  9. Joe Biden praised Nelson Mandela, who was a socialist and went to visit Castro when freed from prison. Cuba helped to end the apartheid.

  10. He also called him a viscous dictator and he condemns his actions. But guess what, he also did some good. The founding fathers owned slaves, do we not celebrate all the good stuff they did as well? We need more nuanced takes

    1. Excellent point made in history. History teaches us how not to make the same mistakes but it seems we never learn. And Jesus wept.

    2. FroBeast Well said. Amazing how context is thrown out the window each and every time it suits them. They make the narrative either good or bad and reduce it to whatever best fits in with the current manufactured talking points handed down from on high. : (

  11. 🙄 this is literally why he’s winning.

He says something logical, you hear hyperbole.

For Christ’s sake, Obama said the same thing. Be better MSNBC.

    1. Haider Ali Obama list his majorities in the house and senate and gave us Trump. Perhaps y’all need to stop praising Castro.

    2. Obama’s statement was in attempt to connect Cuba with the US to end the embargo. Also, it was not an election year. Bernie’s statement is based off of ignorance and aligns with his past where he praised Ortega and their “revolution”.

    3. @Alex White I personally now many Cubans who disagree with you! There are many differing views among Cubans and yours is to the right perhaps?

Bush/Cheney lied to the world and over a million people are dead now and the whole middle east has been destabilized, does that not mean Bush’s program to decrease Malaria deaths in Africa “which he did by the tens of thousands” wasn’t a good thing and should never be mentioned?

  12. “Wow, he is defendig this, he is actually defending the fact, that 30 years ago, he said a fact about Castro”….
Joe, that is just pathetic, you are just a joke!

  13. President Obama: “I said this to President Castro…you’ve made great progress in educating young people….Medical care, the life expectancy of Cubans is equivalent to the United States…That’s a huge achievement. They should be congratulated.” Corporate’s media hypocrisy is astonishing!!!
