Beto O’Rourke: Texas Volunteers ‘Doing The Job The Government Should Do’ | The Last Word | MSNBC

Former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke and other Democrats have raised millions in relief for Texans suffering from the devastating winter storm. He joins Lawrence O’Donnell to discuss those relief efforts and how the lack of help from Republican leaders shows that Texans must “put people in positions of power who actually care for those that they represent and swear that they serve.” Aired on 02/23/2021.

    1. Sadly two weeks from now people one paycheck away from poverty will be hating on the liberals and voting RED again and again. Nothing will be learned.

  1. O’Rourke is right. This work should not be by volunteers. It’s the government’s responsibility.
Like charities wouldn’t need to exist if the rich payed their taxes. They then become donors only to make themselves feel good but donations wouldn’t be necessary if every necessity was properly funded. Not subsidised.

    1. The rich don’t donate unless it is tax deducible, I live in an area that is completely Republican, we don’t have public access to drinking water. Many are living with bad wells or no wells at all. Griffith and my state rep Kilgore doesn’t care. People here keep electing them since they believe they are such Christian people. Do Christian reps let people go through this NO. Thankfully my state has a federal disaster plan.I truly feel for you in Texas, and I pray things get better for you.

  2. The “Reliability” in ERCOT stands for reliably profitable for the fat cats. Every Texan should stop their automatic energy payments and pay no bills to the criminals who just abused them. Not one penny of federal money should go to bailouts for the criminals who abused Texas. When Texas joins the national grid and commits to federal regulation, let federal money flow to facilitate the upgrade. Let ERCOT go bankrupt.

    1. Of course he’s tired he actually did something instead of discussing what to do and who is to blame! There’s no green deal in texas , only people that get rich off of others misfortune. Makes me sick for all who died and others whose homes or apts are ruined.

    2. That’s an absurd stretch. She didn’t act as a legislator. She is a successful instagram influencer that raised money then ran for the spotlight for photo ops. Good for her, but she hasn’t made a difference politically here.

    1. @The Blade The lies you tell. Do me a favor and look up how many cities turned blue in Texas, during a pandemic, and voter suppression. Abbot limited voting sites to 1 voting site per county. Im out here doing the work to have my community to vote blue locally as well, any suggestions will be appreciated..

    2. @Mary Anne Kain “Rafael “Cruze ( I think this dude hate his culture) the hypocrisy is astounding, he is for the wall, yet during a winter storm in Texas goes to Mexico to sponge off there system that obviously work..

    3. I hope Beto runs for governor of Texas. Though he’d be a good senator too, he could fix the problems at home where he’s needed most. My best friends live in Houston, I’m from Michigan and they’re freezing and out of power, meanwhile Cruz heads off to Cancun. This is something I’d expect to happen in my state, where Republicans so badly messed up Flint it’s sickening. Ted Cruz adds even more poisonous nihilism into the mix too.

    4. @Ethan Dewicki I will pray for your friends, Beto isn’t progressive enough to take on Texas… We need a Stacey Abrams to help with voter suppression, and encouraging Texans to vote blue. I wish governors were more diverse in running for these positions..

    2. indeed, join the rest of america or secede. enough of the “don’t mess with Texas” “we are a whole other country” and have our own power grid BS. difficult to feel too sorry for such a blow hard state. arrogance and asking for help are incompatible Texas.

    1. We obviously do believe in the government since we have a government in Texas and in DC

we literally rely on the government for anything
      Democrats forever

  3. Amen! Fellow Americans realize who is for the working class and who is for the millionaires and billionaires. The rich could care less about anyone, we have to elect our own to take care of our own

  4. All the GOP need to do to make up lost ground by next election is shout ‘look, immigrants!’ or ‘voter fraud! (code for black people voting)’.

  5. If government had half the gumption and love Beto has for the people we wouldn’t be ashamed of this godforsaken country
