Patrick Gaspard, president of George Soros's Open Society Foundations and former U.S. Ambassador to South Africa during the Obama Administration, addresses comments made by former Vice President Joe Biden on the Breakfast Club, where he said that "If you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump then you ain't black." Gaspard tells Andrea Mitchell that Biden "is in no position" to make such a determination, even in jest, and he expects that during the campaign Biden will display more "thoughtfulness" in litigating what Gaspard calls his "astounding" record than he demonstrated in the interview. @stan hall Nobody is trying to hold anyone down, quite the opposite, the democrats are trying to create opportunity, skills training, better access to better schools, making jobs available, lifting people up. Biden is not suggesting that black people do drugs, all he is saying is that it shouldn’t be illegal. There are too many blacks in the US who are in jail for fairly petty crimes, and their sentences are way too long, that is unfair. That’s what Biden is talking about, making sure that families are not torn apart unnecessarily. A kid with a dad is probably a lot less likely to smoke weed, or commit a crime. A two parent family also has two adults who can potentially go out and work, which equals more household money.
And as to why this hasn’t all been fixed already; that’s because there are a lot of republicans who constantly stand in the way of democratic progress. It’s infuriating to see great legislation, like the bills that have passed the house of Representatives, be left on Mitch McConnell’s desk as he refused to bring them to the floor of the Senate for discussion and for Senators to vote on them. This is what always happens, the dems will need a certain number of votes and they will be one or two short and so great programs and help for the American people gets just thrown out, by one or two republican votes to block it. But that’s why this election is so important, the democrats have to keep the House(which seems very likely); and they need the Senate(this is going to be a super close race!); and they need the Presidency(this one is down to the wire, and the whole world will be watching). If they get all three chambers then the dems can get some real work done; some very good work!
