Nobody’s canceling history, Doc! Our history is actually becoming more accurate and complete, showing the evils unvarnished instead of glorifying or hiding them, while abandoning some historical myths. So-called cancel culture has been a fixture of the human race since we first walked the Earth. It’s a non-violent social construct that signals disapproval of unacceptable behavior that is disruptive, destructive, or dangerous to the tribe or community. If you boycott a company because they exploit workers, one might claim you are engaging in cancel culture. But is that a bad thing, to encourage social changes which are beneficial to society as a whole? Is it “so wrong?” I don’t think so–but I do think that it is a tool which should not be abused or taken too far. Republicans employ the term derogatorily or in derision to protect and perpetuate wrongs, while they hypocritically are the most flagrant and prolific in misusing it.
It is the insistence on rewriting and sanitizing history that needs canceling.

If it wasn’t for the Vietnam war, Johnson would’ve been ranked as one of the greatest presidents in history. Regardless, he was one of my favorite presidents. And I was born in 1983.
President Biden recognizes the right time to do the right thing is now, not later. FDR and LBJ knew this and took the steps to insure that things got done and got done right.
