    She broke the law. Thought her status as a star basketball player would get her some kind of exemption. Talk about privilege.
    If it was an average person, would they be able to speak to the president to get them released? I feel bad for her, but she made the choice to bring cannabis on a plane to Russia. What kind of idiot does that, and thinks she won’t have to suffer the consequences if she’s caught? Accountability is a concept none of these idiots want to acknowledge anymore.
    And stop with the narrative that she’s been “falsely incarcerated”. She broke the law. She doesn’t deserve to be treated different just cause she plays basketball.

    1. It is also illegal to import cannabis into the US. Never travel internationally with drugs, always support local dealers, take a break from drugs, or don’t travel.

    2. @WeIT 1) She wasn’t starving without that Russian money, she’s a female athlete, not a Victorian era chimney sweep. 2) If she had to make some extra money, she could have worked in America. 3) If she absolutely had to work abroad, she should have chosen a country that isn’t a dictatorship with terrible diplomatic relations with her home country. 4) She shouldn’t have broken the law. Because if a Russian government agency was planning to frame her for further use as a bargaining chip, they would have saddled her with something like “espionage”. That way she can be officially exchanged for a Russian spy or diplomatic concession. There’s no such thing as US-Russian pothead swaps, the last I checked.

  15. What a lame statement from the coach and the guest. Both of these individuals are what’s wrong with the situation. The coach is supposed to be the leader not the lead butt kisser. The coach should have known she was a user and made sure this person, a key player, under her watch wasn’t going to get in trouble.

  16. What about Paul Whelan, an American still held in Russia for over three years and sentenced to 16 years on false espionage charges? Is he any less worthy than Ms. Griner? It took years to bring back Trevor Reed, a Marine Corps veteran, from Russia. Is he any less worthy than Ms. Griner?

    I hope for Brittany Griner’s return as expeditiously as any American held overseas, but to claim she is being neglected due to her race, gender, or sexual preference is wrong. In fact, her notoriety probably makes it more difficult to bring her home because Putin knows he has a prize. He is not impressed by a lot of noise made about her captivity. It probably encourages him to not release her because of her status and how it disturbs us. Be assured, the real effort is being done through typical quiet diplomatic channels, as it is for Paul Whelan, Trevor Reed, or any American.

  17. As far back as August 2021 – the US Government issued traveling warnings to US Citizens telling them NOT TO TRAVEL TO RUSSIA due to pending hostilities unless they had a family emergency or worked for the US Government.

    BG decided to travel anyway in early 2022.

    Actions has consequences. Being rebellious and ignoring warnings has consequences. I don’t know what else to say…..

  19. It took two years of negotiation with Russia for Trevor Reed to be release. I hope she and other Americans being detained in Russia get release but expecting a POTUS to magically make the process of your release quick is a fool’s hope.
