Chris Hayes Podcast With Davey Alba | Why Is This Happening? - Ep 139 | MSNBC 1

The local newspaper is dying. Across the country, newsrooms are either shuttering completely or struggling through massive staff layoffs. It's becoming increasingly clear that in the void left by trusted local reporting, misinformation is taking root. A sweeping investigation by the New York Times uncovered a conservative pay-for-play network that disguises itself as unbiased local coverage. The enterprise includes 1300 sites spanning all 50 states, and with familiar web layouts and innocuous titles like Wichita Standard or Illinois Valley Times, you may have come across one and been none the wiser. New York Times reporter Davey Alba is one of the journalists who broke the story and joins to explain what tipped her off, who is behind it all, and the role social media plays in this moment.

  1. Looking forward to January 20th

  2. Looking forward to 4 more years of President Trump.
MSNBC is nothing but propaganda, the pinnacle of mocking bird main media.

    • Somewhere in your alternative reality out there in a parallel universe maybe he’s getting another term. Not here though.

    • If you feel that way why are watching this sight. You must be getting information you dont like and cant dispute

  3. Trump said he will veto stimulus checks unless every American receives $2,000

    • It’s just pure political posturing, if he actually cared he would have put his time and energy into passing a bill in the past months while the country suffered with nothing.

Right wing disinformation got to the dimension of Nazi war-time propaganda.

    • No president should be elected with fraud. I blame every “real” Biden voter voter for this circus. Just like They will be responsible for the murdering of innocent brown children with Biden’s bombs of war if he is installed as president. You are all brainwashed tools. Nobody should except a vaccine from a government that can not hold legitimate elections. Remember the Tuskegee study. This is the “return to normal” you idiots voted for.

  5. “The kingdom of God has drawn near; repent and believe the gospel!”

It’s so strange that all sides of our media independent corporate conservative and liberal all talk about the other side being polarized and bias and propaganda but they’re all doing the same thing. MSNBC protect liberals and attacks conservatives with some exceptions. Fox News attacks liberals and protects conservatives with some exceptions. Steven Crowder attacks liberals and protects conservatives with some exceptions. Every single one of them points out how their competition on the other side of the political spectrum is polarizing and biased.

If you talk to a CNN viewer on MSNBC viewer and point out that they’re watching propaganda they will say no you’re the one watching propaganda and when you point out how partisan MSNBC is they will point out the few exceptions were MSNBC actually went after liberal politician. You go over to Steven Crowder for Blaze TV or Tim pool and you tell them that they’re watching propaganda and they will reference the few exceptions where their media said something negative about a conservative. Every audience is watching media that’s using the same propaganda tactic and every audience is defending their media with the same explanation which references exceptions to the format that they’re watching and ignores the rules. On this YouTube channel you won’t find many videos at all going after Democrats. Just like you won’t find many videos going after conservatives if any at all on conservative channels. Dr Mara from the national our media is doing the same thing corporate independent liberal it’s all the same. Pandering for profit

7:23 this woman is basically describing mainstream media like MSNBC and CNN. Yes the conservative media does it even more extremely but absolutely MSNBC does the exact same thing they’re talking about. Most MSNBC viewers are uninformed about how bad the Democratic party is similar to how conservative media viewers are uninformed about how bad Republicans are. Both sides do the same thing and then the viewers will defend their source of propaganda by pointing out exceptions. Sometimes MSNBC is honest about Democrats. Sometimes conservative media is honest about Republicans. Both audiences will ignore that positive coverage of the preferred political party dominates the content

Here’s a little trick to figure out if you’re watching propaganda. Imagine you had a project to do an expose piece on both political parties. Could you get enough material to do this from the channel that you watch? So if you really wanted to tear apart the Democratic Party could you get all the material you need from this YouTube channel? If you really need to tear apart the Republican Party could you get all the material you need from Blaze TV or Tim pool? If you can’t do this using just the source of news you watch then you are watching propaganda. The content you watching is extremely biased which will distort your perception of both parties. Making you think that the Republican party is better if you watch conservative Media or the Democratic party is better if you watch liberal media. You won’t even realize that your opinions of these parties is largely based on the media you consume. That’s the effect of propaganda
