A man who saw the full promise of American democracy even years before the start of the Civil War. This week Chris sits down with professor and historian David Blight to talk about his Pulitzer winning book Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom. The two discuss the life of the freed slave, orator, and writer whose words would go on to push America toward the multi-racial, multi-religious, multi-ethnic democracy that we still are striving for today.

America has no official language, no official religion, no requirements of birth, breeding, race, or creed. Thanks for this. It’s a beautiful podcast. Douglass is as close as America could come in the nineteenth century to its ideals. It would be a shame if we lost Douglass’s vision of what the nation could be.

Hate cannot die until the teaching of it does. If you look at the past 200 years vs the past 2000 we have made a lot of positive progress in a comparably short amount of time. Far from acceptable but real change does not happen overnight. We need to start talking to each-other again and put down the megaphones. Stop yelling from the far right and far left. We need to stop throwing stones and start planting seeds. The healing needs to start with the removal of blatant racist behavior at the very top of our society. If the leader of the free world is permitted to spread divisive hate we have failed ourselves. Think about that come November.
Humanity’s problem is that it’s sinful, and God being a perfect and holy being must judge sin. God saw our problem and solved that problem when He came to the very world He created, as Jesus. He came to save all who would humble themselves and admit they’re lost and see their need for Him. That perfect and holy God took the entire multitude of our disgusting sins on Himself at the cross of Calvary and took our punishment for them when He shed His blood and died on the cross in accordance with the Scriptures, He was buried, and He rose on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. If you simply trust in His finished work on the cross for your sins, you will be saved. He is coming so soon!! (:
There is a reason that we have a separation of Church and State. The Christian founders whom were very religious knew that and made sure to make it a point to keep personal spiritual beliefs out of politics. I am NOT criticizing your personal beliefs. You are entitled to that as a human being. But please respect our democracy as our forefathers wisely did.
What who’s family are you talking about? Read american history and compare it to other countries. We are all from somewhere else.
