Citizenship by investment unit opens in Antigua-Barbuda

ST JOHN’S, Antigua — During the sitting of the House of Representatives in Antigua and Barbuda last Wednesday, Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer announced the opening of a Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU).

The prime minister said that Canadian Don Myatt, will head the CIU. Myatt is said to have over 30 years of experience in the area of foreign service. Myatt will be supported in the unit by an operations compliance officer, project development officer, financial controller, compliance officer, operations clerk and secretary.

During last week’s sitting, seven Bills were debated by the House of Representatives, including two motions to facilitate the government borrowing US$10 million from the World Bank for financing the public and social sector transformation project and US$21,900,000 from the Caribbean Development Bank to on-lend to LIAT for the purpose of financing the regional airline’s fleet modernization project.
