CNNi: Lessons learned from the Arab Spring: Are things better?

Beginning in 2011, mass protests demanding freedom and dignity rocked the the Arab world and, for a while, hope soared that decades of decay and dictatorship were coming to an end. But internal divisions, foreign intervention, and authoritarians who stopped at nothing to seize or cling to power dashed much of that hope. CNN's Ben Wedeman looks at the meaning and impact of the events.

  1. – Dear whoever is reading this, I wish there was a way for everyone to erase all sadness and stress and just replace it with happiness. You have an entire galaxy and a beautiful life ahead of you. Nothing in life is ever easy, but what’s important is that YOU keep going. ❤️

    1. @R Torres isis was created primarily by the power vacuum in the middle east and north Africa whilst Al Qaedas creation was pretty much funded by the US

    2. @CoolfireX – – Thats not what the 2012 DIA report said. Anyway, both were funded by the US, UK, Turkey, gulf allies, and Israel

    3. @CoolfireX – – Yeah…it was small at first and called ISIL. (Islamic state of Iraq and Levant). It grew.

      From early 2013
“One of the key US men in Syria, the “Free Syrian Army” (FSA) Col. Abdel Jabbar al-Okaidi, who operated mostly in the Greater Aleppo area, was open about his daily communication and collaboration with extremist jihadists from the “Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant” (ISIL) and al-Qaeda’s official branch in Syria, Jabhat al-Nusra.  He refers to their fighters as brothers.  In one footage after the rebel capture of Menagh military airbase, he even appeared standing next to an Egyptian jihadist from ISIL, Abu Jandal, while thanking him and his group for their contributions.  The US is known to have funneled military aid to al-Okaidi and others in the FSA throughout the uprising in Syria.”

Al-Okaidi was working with US ambassador Ford. And in 2015 made some appearances on CNN and NBC or ABC. One of those. Because that when Russia joined in to fight them.

Also, add operation Timber Sycamore which was a classifed CIA operation.

    1. Obama and Hillary did a great job destroying Libya and Syria, allowing ISIS to thrive, and now an entire province in Syria (Idlib) is a haven for Al Qaeda.

    2. Maybe Obama should have been Impeached for arming Al Qaeda Jihadists with weapons to take down Syrian President Assad.

    3. @Pauly Smiles But seriously divided. Divide and conquer. The region is unstable with no true leadership. It seems their plan worked out well.

    1. @2degucitas they tried and US bombed Iraq and support others to overrun the government. Trump did the same in Capitol Hill.

  2. PGE Update:
    • Agree that a power outage is inevitable due to wind and snow.
    • Agree to work much faster than last time in restoring power and NOT playing the delay game. It’ll be back on within 3-5 when power goes out.
    • Will be subject to losses and customers will have their bill lowered if delay game happens. Those on “standby” to get power back on will be fired if they play delay games.
    • Turning off the power way too early will result in jail time for those involved.

    I’m winning like never before!

  3. In this world there is no peace because we are all headed for Doom forever consumed by our own inner Beast😞

  4. The collision is violent and unending. You know that collision between traditional culture based upon subordination and obedience and modern culture based upon consent and freedom of thought. It can be found all over the world with no exceptions. In the Arab world, tradition is strong and unyielding. The result is that those who struggle to achieve a life based on modern values have a hellish time.

  5. Oh Muslim brother hood was just asking where all those guns and ammo Barack bought now thinking back thats right barack was backing them now i know where those guns and ammo went

  6. No more, look what happened in the US in the past twelve months, how can the US gather the nerve to continue exporting its ideological model? Come down the mountain now…

  7. My heart goes for the all the innocent civilians and their families in the hellish events happening around the Arab world!
