You get charged HST on the carbon charge. That’s why they don’t call it a tax. They think it’s an excuse to double dip. A tax is still a tax even if you give it a fancy name.

Still does not explain anything, or how they are going to track all your purchases and now it suggests they are going to tell you how to use the money, sounds like a hug undertaking that will cost all around. So probably if he ever gets in then he can change it again…does not sound like he want it to work anyhow.

If only there were some better solution for both incentivizing large carbon emitters to reduce their emissions while avoiding direct costs to consumers. Perhaps some sort of system where there was a proposed CAP on how much carbon emissions a company could produce before seeing increased taxes. Perhaps those companies that surpass that CAP could TRADE with companies that stay below the cap to get some sort of credits to raise their CAP, helping them avoid those increased taxes, while providing more funding towards companies focused on lowering their emissions. If only there were a system like that in place. Personally, being here in Ontario, I feel like that could have been a really great way to avoid our being subject to the blanket carbon tax, but it’s really too bad that we never had anything like that in place. Oh wait…

If you have a conservative MP I suggest emailing or calling them tell them your dislike for Erin o’tooles policies. I wrote to mine this morning saying I will no longer be voting conservative under erin o’toole.
