Coronavirus Cure? Experts See Promising New Clues In Policies From WA And CA | MSNBC

While there is no medical cure for individuals who contract coronavirus, new evidence reveals how different government policies can drive vastly different responses to whether the virus is contained or spread. Drawing on investigative reporting in the New Yorker and New York Times, and medical and technological data, MSNBC anchor Ari Melber reports on how some U.S. states that are as large as countries – like California – did dramatically better curbing its spread than other large states like New York. Melber also reports that contrary to some conventional wisdom about New York’s handling of the crisis, the state was actually late to enact key measures that could stem the spread not only in the state, but prevent its spread across the U.S. (This interview is from MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber, a news show covering politics, law and culture airing nightly at 6pm ET on MSNBC. ). Aired on 05/08/2020.

Coronavirus Cure? Experts See Promising New Clues In Policies From WA And CA | MSNBC

  1. Washington state resident here and I’m grateful for the decisions my Governor has made. Very grateful.

    1. @pennise “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness are all equal.” Except grandma doesn’t get to enjoy the last two if she doesn’t have the first. I am fully aware of the difference between the Declaration and the Constitution. But thanks for taking the time to point them out.

About the numbers, firstly, this thing is not done yet. Secondly, you can’t take the numbers as they are and argue that they are so low that the restrictions were not necessary. You need to look at the predictions of what they would have been if the restrictions were not in place. The trajectories in Italy and New York provide examples of this. The “low” percentages show that the measures are making a difference.

    2. @K Shred The Declaration of Independence was about leaving a tyrannical government, not the flu, or a cold, or somebody saying something that hurt your feelings. It was in direct response to government oppression – the exact case I have stated here. Go get a cookie and a blanky and have yourself a good cry.

    3. @blueflame Your first three words tell me everything I need to know about you. The Founding Fathers were addressing tyrannical governments, not epidemics.

    4. @pennise What are your thoughts on conscription ? Would you serve if called up or would you protest about losing your precious liberties ? After all, Trump stated that he is a ‘war-time president’ and invoked the Defence Production Act. Seems to me that staying at home with a cookie and blanky is not all that bad compared with getting drafted, shipped overseas, and getting shot at.

  2. China Lockdown the city of Wuhan on Jan 23rd overnight, with a population of New York City. This was a serious signal.

  3. cuomo didnt clean the rolling dumpsters we call trains until last week(he should have been cleaning for decades). and when u show nyc numbers you need to include new jeresy since tons of people commute to and from there daily.

    1. thejunkmanlives I don’t live in NYC so I really have no right to comment on that… yet I will arrogantly comment nonetheless. To better state, I will not comment on his potential negligence in the pre-COVID era as I have no right to do so as I don’t live in NYC. I will say that, in spite of my utter and complete ignorance of even the most basic sense of understanding of past concerns; in my opinion, his newly formed realization that moving forward, this no longer is acceptable to be neglected. In other words, it’s appropriate to call that out; however, the important thing is that it has changed and let’s move forward. Somebody realizes and admits their faults and changes appropriately following an admission of that neglect (he has in my opinion watching his daily briefings), let’s move past it. He no longer is part of the problem and is trying to be part of the solution; if you dwell on it then you’re still part of the problem.

As far as New Jersey numbers, something I feel more confident to comment on ironically in spite of never visiting NJ far as I can recall. You’re correct, not just NJ, but the tri-state region needs to be considered at least in part, as a single entity. I have been watching the daily Cuomo briefings every day for the past 3+ weeks and they do discuss them as a group, but also distinctly too. Both are important in other words. They are distinct states and thus distinct entities; however, they without question are also extremely interdependent upon each other, especially regarding place of employment vs residence/apartment/home. My sister lives in NJ and she and her husband work in NYC. They used to live in Manhattan but now they have a kid and it was more practical. My point, statistically they must and have distinguished all three as separate states/entireties; however, they also have run the numbers and statistics based on those specific regions of those three states for separate statistical analysis as they are interdependent and not mutually exclusive. Hope that helps.

    2. The trains are operated by the New York Port Authority which is under city control. Trains and particularly subways are mobile petri dishes as are aricraft.

    3. Don’t blame the governor, for what the mayor is in charge of. DeBlasio was at fault.

    4. @Deborah Freedman i never said deblasio wasnt a trash mayor and what i said before still stands(ie we should have been cleaning the trains for decades). but that doesnt stop cuomo from getting out in front and stating the obvious. You have a lot of people around the country saying that we should have shut down the trains entirely without understanding that many new yorkers(especially since the 2010s) have been ditching trains and using the trains/buses as their primary mode of transportation.

the bottom line is this. new york city has had a lot of problems for years that are only now being highlighted because of covid. orangemanbad doesnt make up for all the years of failure.

  4. Why does the title start with “Coronavirus Cure?” This piece in no way addresses a cure for Coronavirus.

    1. @Ashley Nichole I’m sorry but you have a very one-dimensional view of the situation. You can’t seem to understand that not getting the virus in the first place (prevention), is just as good as curing it through medicine. The end result is the same, a healthy person.

Your hung up on the literal definition of the word ‘cure’ but I’m sure you know that many words have multiple meanings based on context.

    2. To everyone who views this video as not pointing at a cure, ok you’re right. But there seems to be a possibility of a misinterpretation. When I look at the whole thing, it looks like they’re going on the the old quote “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. ( They probably should have titled the show along those lines ) You can probably see that when they discussed the difference between the curve lines between California and New York.

    3. @Co Re What’s detrimental to our systems are foreign viruses and substances entering them. Gaining immunity can cost you your life…

That was the dumbest comment in this thread by far

    4. @Chiken actually no it wasn’t. The novel coronavirus has a 0.1% mortality rate. The lockdown is fear mongering point blank. And election fraud to boot.

Bubonic plague is literally on surfaces all over new York.. But we don’t have to worry about outbreaks because as long as it’s a small amount, and we wash hands and bathe tob prevent buildup, our immune system not only kills it before it invades cells en masse’ but we also keep those killer cells in us for months to years at a time.

If you stopped being exposed.. You would start seeing serious cases after a couple years or so.

YOUR comment shows the ineptitude of those who don’t bother to understand the science.

  5. Policies are not cures. Cures are cures, and there’s no promising new clues for those so far.

    1. Then stop complaining, start imagining and planning what you can do or how you can help, discuss it, then act on it.

    2. @Doug H Then he hasn’t been keeping up with modern medicine. If he did, he wouldn’t have made such a foolish statement. In fact, there are eight new facts about the Corona Virus which is helping lead to a cure. THAT is a statement of fact, not false altruism, which is what that was. Look ’em up. I won’t do your homework FOR you.

    3. @Okori Inaka
You like to hear yourself rant, perhaps to help you convince yourself that you are right. I don’t know. But facts aren’t facts when they are politicized, science is not science when it is politicized, and when modern medicine is politicized it becomes modern quackery. Your boat is leaking badly. Everyone sees that it is leaking badly. You see that it is leaking badly, but you insist on getting aboard for a long cruse. Bye.

  6. When did it say that there was a coronavirus cure? Did I miss something? This segment never mentioned anything about that… typical MSNBC click bait BS propaganda….

    1. @Aaron Weiser Ratings? Do you literally just parrot everything the president and his state-run media pundits say (speaking of propaganda?)
No one but seniors watch the news on television–that’s why Fox is the highest “rated” by televised engagement. By the way, doesn’t that make them the definition of “mainstream media?” 🤔🤯

    2. @Carolyn Talbot no, I parrot the REAL facts. And those seniors are hella of alot sharper than you, they know what REAL honest news is…….🥺🥺

    3. Wasn’t there a saying that the best cure is to not get sick in the first place? I think that is what they were driving at for the show. Try going back and read the beginning statements, maybe you’ll get it. During the show you can see the curve line had been flatter for California compared to New York.

    4. @Carolyn Talbot yes and they also have more subscribers than msnBS as well also your trying to say one large news Network is mainstream compared to multiple liberal news Networks most also don’t really is there research because they try to either milk a horrific event and also try to make up news and just flat out lie because most people won’t check

  7. I’m Californian, and in those Bay Area countries the issued shelter-in-place orders early on. But before we pat ourselves on the back, there are significant differences between the situation in CA cities and in NYC. Most of us drive to work in the Bay Area, and don’t ride public transportation. Most of us live in massive sprawling suburbs, not high rises. And the strain of the virus circulating here early on is very close to the original Wuhan strain, while the one in NYC has mutated further and is believed to be more contagious.
Hindsight is 20/20, and I’m not going to judge people too harshly for decisions made during an unprecedented crisis. I am more concerned about regions of the country that have few coronavirus cases today but despite seeing NY and other cities refuse to heed the warning and prepare themselves. This pandemic is a series of storms that will keep pummeling us. We must be prepared to weather the storm and come out on the other side a strong and united country.

    1. – didn’t you noticed how the title of the show was framed? I don’t think that they meant it literally. If you actually listened to the video and noticed when they discussed the comparison in the curve lines between California and New York. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. ” I believe that is what they were saying.

    2. Rob Lee ahh ok. I did watch and heard them say that but I wasn’t thinking outside the box ☺️

  8. Reported video for “spam or misleading” – “misleading title.” There is no cure mentioned as the clickbait title suggests.

    1. @Co Re absolutely 100% I’ve been mosting about op mockingbird everywhere cause nothing on TV can be trust because of that information. As well as CIA director Casey Williams saying “our disinformation program will be complete when everything the American people believe is a lie”. Many people are waking up, keep fighting patriots! They have billions of dollars and they’re still loosing! Good and truth ALWAYS win in the end

    2. Co Re the only similarity is that that are both in the coronaviridae family; they are not very similar at all outside being in the same family based upon taxonomic classification. Similarly, all cats from tigers and lions to house cats are in the same family; just as all canines from wolves to weiner dogs are in the same family. Not a lot of similarities there. Human beings are more closely related to every single extinct ‘caveman’ species than this virus is related to SARS. If you understood anything about genetics, or bothered to read any legitimate research about the two viruses, then you would know just how absurd it is to suggest that either of them was engineered in a laboratory.

    3. @Doc Mike if you look deeper I’m sure you’ll find quite the opposite. And I have looked at the engineering and gene splicing data fyi.

    4. @Co Re I don’t read unproven, unsubstantiated conspiracy theories that have literally not a shred of evidence. I only read legitimate and reputable peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals with sources cited and factual evidence provided to prove their point. Doesn’t matter though, because a 10th grade understanding of biology would probably be adequate to easily see how ridiculous those conspiracy theories are. If you think that a virus like this is even possible using current technology, then you clearly have absolutely no understanding of “engineering and gene splicing”.

    5. @Doc Mike the evidence is coming. Investigations will take at least a year before much, or even a fraction of, this info is released. My Sources are from inside whitehouse, and china.
Sorry not sorry… nothing was nonfactual.

  9. You say you are not blaming anyone but it sure sounds like it if you want to blame someone blame the right ones Trump and his cronies

  10. If the White House had acted quicker and took the lead, everywhere would have benefited. We all know that Im sure. Cure???? you mean vaccine? I am pretty sure that all the vaccine will be ready for elite first lollll.. In this case I think I should get some PPE for myself at least.. Does anyone where I can buy some real masks? Like N95 OR KN95??

    1. @Sub Optimal and as far as ‘dismantling the pandemic early warning infrastructure,’ fauci with all his warnings and 40 years failed to do exactly that. Properly protect us from epidemics. That’s HIS job…
What trump dismantled was money laundering back-channels.

    2. @Co Re
Re: “Not a pandemic level disease.” – As stated previously, it’s glaringly obvious that you’re not an epidemiologist. It is also very clear that you’re not arguing in good faith.
The fact that the novel coronavirus has spread throughout the world means it has become a de facto pandemic. Therefore novel coronavirus is a pandemic capable disease.
      https://lmgtfy.com/?q=what+is+a+pandemic
      You’re being idiotic. Go away.

    3. @Sub Optimal “A widespread endemic disease with a stable number of infected people is not a pandemic”, and because its novel that means 0 were initially infected. This will even itself out after a year, or two. It’ll never be what the news wanted it to be.

    1. Good question! I think FOX won’t stop lying until Trump does so the answer is probably never. There’s a reason why FOX “news” doesn’t register as a news organization but as an entertainment organization – so they can lie without worrying about being sued or fined. The ones that trump calls fake news are registered as news organizations, meaning they HAVE to be facts oriented. The enemy of the people tell the truth and trump, being a pathological liar, hates the truth.

  11. No press briefing was better than the White House. …they forced their viewers to think for themselves.

  12. “The point is not blame” yet spends most of the video blaming NY governor and the president.

    1. The moron in the white house is to blame for not taking it seriously just like communist tv fox news. Calling it a hoax and fake news f or a whole month before doing anything .too late by then and still hes doing the bare minimum. So STFU.

    2. John Symonds haha so you are ‘blaming someone.’ Very brave of you to hide behind a screen and tell me to “stfu” 👏🏼👏🏼

    3. John Symonds Your use of derogatory and sever lack of grammatical skills is just embarrassing. I’d say stay in school but you probably dropped out a long time ago.

  13. Dr Mikovits said that there was a cure for Corona virus but CDC sais “no” and stop productions .

  14. Please change the title to: “When news networks use clickbait titles…” Cure: something (such as a drug or treatment) that cures a disease – Webster’s Dictionary

  15. When we’re talking “openly and honestly” about the issues. Let’s talk about the fact that the US had less respirators pr. 100k inhabitants than any other industrialized country. Why is that? Is it because the americans are inherintly healthier than those in Italy, Spain, France or Germany? Or is it because the US has decided that some people, people who can’t afford healthcare in the richest country in the world (and also happens to have the most expensive healthcare system, that treats the least amount of patients pr capita in the industrialized world) isn’t worthy of lifesustaining, preserving and saving treatments?

There’s a hard fact that imo should be openly discussed. Where is the “love thy next of kin” in the US? What happened to compassion, to decency and bear in mind – it was lost long before the virus hit.
