Oxford Sociologist Gina Neff says in order for the country to reopen, we have to do more to protect marginalized and low-wage workers while they're on the job. "Workers have to choose between feeding their families or making their coworkers sick. We're asking our essential workers to be, in effect, sacrificial workers." Aired on 05/07/2020.

  1. Like Jim Jones, Trump is trying to brainwash his followers into believing that it’s okay to die for him. And anyone who has a problem with that is clearly a “never Trumper.” Jim Jones demanded loyalty and dogmatic obedience from his followers at Jonestown, and Trump expects nothing less from his cultists..

@Somewhere Nearyou, You don’t know what your saying.

    • Trump also has Jim Jones’ “woe is me, everyone is out to get me” cult leader schtick.

Yep, -forget the Kool Aid , Dump has been handing out the LIESOL and pretty soon his deranged cultists will be drinking it down.

I agree but Hitler also knew how to do this. Not all wanted to die for Jim Jones but couldn’t get away, because he wanted them dead too, which reminds me of Trump forcing people to work at the meat plants. I have heard that most of the workers at the meat plant are immigrants and looking at the footage, it looks that way. A lot of Trump voters voted for him to get immigrants out of the country and build a wall, that is still not built, to keep them out, but now they want them to die for them, so they can fill their fat bellies and the same with Trump. They want to keep just enough immigrants to do the hard work, that as one man needing fruit pickers put it – American bodies wasn’t built to do this work, after a couple of hours they quit. What nonsense, no ones body is built for hard work, it becomes that way from having no choice and doing the hard work for spoiled Americans. Why are Americans not boycotting this meat to help the workers? What you hear from them is – can I get infected by eating it, no solidarity. Had this happened in my country, no one would buy that meat, there are lots of vegetarian products made to taste like meat that people can eat instead and get healthier. By the way why is it Trumpers always write with all capital letters::) Stay safe David!!

  2. Trump must understand that consumer confidence is integral to a strong economy. And consumers won’t feel confident until they feel safe. Consumers drive 70% of GDP. If trump wants to “open” the economy he needs to initiate and implement a national COVID 19 strategy while utilizing the national supply chain.

    • Really high percentage? Within that high percentage, tell me how many of serving politicians or celebrities have died as result of this outbreak? 10? 1,000? 10,000? Or is it close to zero? A deadly virus does not discriminate…apparently.

  5. Keep the plants closed. You can eat fruits and vegetables, pasta, rice and beans to get all the proteins you need 💚🍉🍇🥒🍌🍏🍓💚

    • G – That may be true but it just ain’t the same. Keep the plants open but not with sick workers. Granted the production will be reduced but there will be production.

    • That’s right. How do we think this virus got started to begin with? Why is it the *meat plants* are so infected? No matter the risk some people want to stuff their faces with animals. 🤢🤮

    • Until these so called ‘super clusters’ start happening at fruit and vege farms then theyll be shut down as well. No meat, no fruit, no vege’s. Sounds like full spectrum dominance over the food supply industry. But im sure the gov will have camps that will be available for us all.

@jon dogg Much more unlikely, simply because people work outdoors. Anyway, we can always eat raw bats, oh well.

  6. Is meat from these plants safe? If the people who pack my meat are all dying of this thing, what keeps ME from getting it when I buy the product?

if the dead are warriors, then the USA owes the families COMPENSATION! just like they were on active duty in a war zone.

    • Cathie Ludemann | May 8, 2020 at 3:23 AM | Reply

      TRUMP called them “warriors.”

    • MissWitchiepoo | May 8, 2020 at 7:29 AM | Reply

From what I heard most are immigrants and the footage I have seen looks like this is true. That is sickening, people who voted for Trump did it because they wanted these people out and a wall built (which still hasn’t happened) so no more would come in, but it’s okay to have them risk their lives and even die for you (meaning Trump and his voters), so you can get meat on the table? Republicans are disgusting people! Now Trump calls the immigrants warriors? Drag him into one of these plants and have him working along side with them:) Hoards of people should be dragging him out of the White house, why are they not?

    • Brian Hack | May 8, 2020 at 8:41 AM | Reply

All of us are warriors, not just the dead. Also, active duty in a war zone get hazard pay. …as for those who die and can claim their LIFE INSURANCE, that is where compensation comes from. …….did any of the dead from COVID have life insurance? No? Okay so no compensation.

    • Brian Hack | May 8, 2020 at 9:07 AM | Reply

@MissWitchiepoo health workers are more likely to be H1B (whatever it is called) visa eligible. So seeing immigrants here is not problematic. Plus, our education system makes our kids stupid so they are not likely to make it into healthcare.

The wall is being built right now. A month ago it was up to 160 miles. Now 300 I think he said.

If the immigrants don’t want to work and risk their lives, then they can stay at home and twittle their thumbs. …actually, immigrants are more likely to be in the hotspot of NYC because no self-respecting American would touch that place with the paychecks they receive.

Hopefully this resolves your misunderstanding of the issue, Mademoiselle.

      Have a wonderful day!

    • @Brian Hack You ever been active duty in a war zone? I’m a 3rd-generation veteran and members of my family have been. You really don’t have a clue.

    • Fred Feldman if you work in a meat packing plant you have to prepare to die at this point. Don’t deny the truth

    • @Fry Lock your funny

    • 75000 plus dead Americans agree. Remember he wasn’t left with test, good tests for a virus that didn’t exist 3 years ago. And who didn’t fix the “empty cub-boards” in the three years it’s been his responsibility to do it. Those that do see it are willfully ignorant. Amazing how it’s always a hoax when not good but the word of god when it’s good. America 2020 a country in decline rotting away from the inside. A media report that is bad for trump is fake news. That same media with a good report of trump is the truth. Which one is it? Is the media fake news or are they not. Can’t have both ways. Can’t pick and choose.

  13. Albert Brammer | May 8, 2020 at 5:07 AM | Reply

The rich believe the poorest in society are just cannon fodder. In the past they were true cannon fodder. Now they are being used as fodder to the virus. In their minds there are always more poor people ready to work for little pay.

    • This is the remark of someone who is not an American. In America we do not begrudge the wealthy. It is a person’s *character* that determines their behavior, not the amount of money they may have.

    • Gary Moore | May 9, 2020 at 1:29 AM | Reply

I wonder what tenderloin price will rise to when you factor in the death benefits of the poor soul that brought it to the grocery store shelf.

  14. Why go to the trouble of calling it a “Responsibility Bonus” if not to obscure the danger to which these workers are deliberately being subjected? Are the Directors planning to work side by side with them in order to show their OWN level of responsibility?
