    2. ​@Keith Mc looks likely accurate to me, looks concerning though, pattern would likely indicate delays in transfering groups of swabs to labs for testing, so those delays could cause serious issues with control when they’re getting 10 or so cases a day in each area they test. Sadly I think Eritrea shows all the signs it could suddenly spike at any moment & totally lose control 🙁

      I see no reason to question their current 577 cases total though, everything about the pattern looks as expected if all cases are being detected & reported

You can’t count the current death toll as if it’s the total that will happen as more people are infected! 13554000 cases, 274,000 deaths, that’s over 2% of those that get covid dying BUT as hospitals overload, that percentage can be expected to sharply increase! Exponential growth means there will be over 1 million people needing to be in hospital for covid at any given time by the end of February at current growth rates, with around 1.6 million new infections every day & 2% of those people to die IF they get hospital care! Without hospital care it will be a 5-10% fatality rate, so about 50,000 deaths a day, so matching the current total fatality rate in less than 1 week & repeating that same number of deaths every week!

    4. In Australia, we really hoped the world would follow our lead in how to eradicate it. We’ve completed the process 3 times now, with Melbourne officially having eliminated after it’s lockdown, with over 28 days of no cases.

      We’ve imported & accidentality released into the community again twice in the last month in 2 different cities, so once we get both those eliminated, that will be 5 times eliminated, so why won’t other countries copy what we’ve learnt in how to control it? (just don’t copy us on keeping it out, cause clearly we’re atrocious on that lol)

    2. Tats Sacs: 274,000 dead in ten months, 300 days. That is the equivalent of three commercial jets crashing in the country every day with all aboard being killed. I get the feeling that if three jets crashed every day in the USA with all aboard killed for 300 days, the president would be fine with that as long as it wasn’t Air Force One. Makes you wonder whether he would care if Kim Jong-Un decided to shoot a missile at Seattle and 274,000 died and do anything about it, or whether he’d keep whining about losing an election as the radiation spreads into Oregon, Idaho, and points east.

    2. @Rune – Thorne well I think you might be mincing words. The vaccine was an affect available it just had to go through the speeded up bureaucracy to get approval for distribution. It is still astounding that this vaccine was produced in this amount of time. Remember, it was the end of January when we finally realize that the communist Chinese assisted by the WHO were lying to us about the ears in which the virus can be transmitted from animal to human and then from human to human. Normally, it takes years for a vaccine to be produced and approved.

    3. @T. R. Campbell you’re definitely more forgiving and less cynical than I am. Listening to Woodward’s recordings in February, trump new full well the severity of the disease. Instead of being straight about it, he choose to deceive. Pre election, again he minimized & deceived to the extreme in an effort to look as favorable as possible. Many would classify his deception as an outright LIE! I’m fortunate enough to not know anyone who’s passed away from the covid, but would fully understand the anger and hostility towards him for anyone who has had the misfortune of losing a loved one given what he knew! A war time commander, I think not!

    4. @ron We’re not sure about the actual count. First of all, we don’t have any hard data on who died From the virus and who died With the virus. Most troubling as what we learned early on from the White House briefing’s that any death of a person with COVID-19 is counted as a virus death. We learned that medical examiners in Philadelphia were most upset because their cause of death findings following a postmortem examination differed with the cause of death attributed to the virus.
      We all recall the outrageous classification of a man in Orlando Florida who didn’t have the COVID-19 virus but died in a motorcycle accident. His death was attributed to the virus. We also have the man in Colorado whose death was attributed to the virus but he actually died of acute alcohol poisoning. Those are only two examples but there are others.
      We also have no data from China, where the virus originated. Nor do we have any data from Russia. There was information several weeks ago that the Russians were very upset with Putin at the way he was managing the virus.
      I think many people are making this pandemic a political issue. What else have we had a daily death count. We haven’t had it with HIV aids. We didn’t have it with SARS. Will we continue to have a daily death count when the Biden administration takes over, or will the desk continue to be blamed on Trump? Will we even have a death count when Joe is inaugurated? All of this remains to be seen. We should all be glad though that the submission station is making great progress and fight COVID-19.

    5. @Tony Yu Well, while this guy is definitely not a politician which is probably one of the reasons why he is hated so much by the corrupt and entrenched political class I think he tried to be reassuring. What would’ve happened if he told the American people the absolute truth very early on? What if he said the world is going to be infected by this disease out of China, millions of people around the world are going to die and several hundred thousand Americans are going to die from COVID-19. What if he would’ve said that?
      The media and the political class would have been up in arms if he would’ve done that. He even took heed from telling the truth when he told American people that the virus was from China. He was called xenophobic when he stopped travel from China as soon as we learn the truth about the virus.
      Very likely this is a case of damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.
      I really try not to be forgiving but I try to look at the broad picture. I have been involved in politics all my life and it is helpful to remain an emotional and to be scholarly when we make assessments. Thank you for your comment and your post.
