Democrats Look For Path Around GOP Intransigence To Increase Minimum Wage | Rachel Maddow | MSNBC

    1. @Ray S That’s a load of crap. If they’ve costed out their product correctly, it should include covering basic expenses like rent, raw materials, and living wages. Dems are proposing tax credits for small businesses to help them make the changes, but it’s the big corps that don’t want to make the changes – they love having the taxpayers support their employees with welfare to cover the missing wages, not to mention the lost tax revenue on subpar income. Their motto: ‘Privatize the profits, socialize the losses’.

    2. @recycled365 – Explain how its ok for the government to strip the freedom of a free market by forcing a certain dollar amount that a struggling business cannot afford, is NOT considered stealing?

    3. @chez moi – Thats where you are wrong. “Big businesses” wont struggle. Walmart will just cut jobs and replace them with a machine (self checkouts)

The ones that struggle are small businesses. Explain to me how a small business that employs 10 people who just barely survived a pandemic, can all of a sudden support BY FORCE, paying entry level positions $5/hr more they dont have?

Where is the money coming from? I know its not from you

    4. @Jackyc1234 Clark – Who’s choice is it to accept a job offer?

Also, how can one look for another job if businesses are closing due to not being able to pay $15 for an entry level job along with higher taxes? 😂

  1. Yes! & Also, we elected dems to RAISE the CAP & Raise INCOME of POVERTY Stricken SOCIAL SECURITY Beneficiaries who PAID in & still living on $800 a MONTH!!!!!!!!

  3. HERES ONE, IGNORE THE GQP VOTES, they no longer care about the American dream or the Democracy for which it stands so JUST IGNORE THEM. When you ask for votes just ignore the GQP, act as if they are not their for they are not. Traitors should not have a say or vote on anything.

    1. You must remember that Democrat and Republican senators or representatives are elected by the people. What you were suggesting is that duly elected individuals have no voice. Your suggestion would fly in the face of the constitution.

  4. F-35 is nearly 30 years in the making. Won’t know if it’s a waste until it’s battle tested against peer adversaries.
Ya wanna see some real b.s. look at the navy ships bought over the past 20 years.
Don’t look if you don’t want your blood to boil.

    1. Amen! I’m sick of hearing it now! They use the, “threat,” of killing it, to get some bipartisan, “good will,” which NEVER WORKS! The GOP ALWAYS reneges. And now they’re counting on taking back the majority, which is why they’re, “considering,” a, “phased,” MW, which only means they plan to reverse the legislation if they get the chance! It’s a MYTH that there is such a thing as a business that cannot afford to pay MW. That’s just a failed business . . . at best! At worst, it’s just a money making scam, with a business model that’s reliant on exploitation! About one step away from slavery! I got rich because my business model REWARDED people, richly. And the genuine good will that bought me shocked even me, when I needed a little help. People are just SO greedy, they don’t get it! They are literally robbing themselves!
The GOP have just been unmasked as literal Fascists, so there’s nothing in it for them, except to make a desperate bid to re-rig the system by outlawing fair voting rights, and maintaining their Oligarchy, so that, when the law fails them, their money won’t. They are a Qult of personality, who want to outlaw opposition groups of any kind, let alone an opposition party. That’s Fascism! Unambiguous, clear as day, FASCISM! The Dems should be refusing to, “negotiate,” anything with them, and stuffing their legislation down the GOP’s throats! Like they would!
Watch them come cap in hand, when they can’t get a seat at the table, and can’t get ANYTHING they want, while the people of America are expressing their gratitude and approval of the Dem’s policies? THAT would teach them not to meddle with Fascism! And, a friendless Donny would be easier to jail too! Along with his corrupt family. The Dems need to play a season of hardball! The nation will thank them for it. And the GOP will make that fracture we all want to see.
Sorry for ranting, but I couldn’t agree more. ✌️👍

    2. Well the filibuster house historic route. This is a way for the minority to have a voice in legislation. Historically, we have always promoted rights of the minority. We have to be very careful on what we eliminate and what actions we take to speed up or slow down a particular endeavor. We cooperated with the Republicans some years ago when we change the rules of the filibuster. The original filibuster rules require that a member have the floor and they continue to have the floor as long as they remain speaking. The rules were gradually changed to the point now where either the speaker or the minority leader in form one another that, They were going to filibuster a particular issue. A form of chaos has resulted.
We should go back to the old rules requiring a member to continue speaking for as long as possible. That would certainly speed up the process while keeping the filler buster which is important for the minority. Remember always the rules that we propose now can backfire on us when we lose control of either the House or Senate.

    3. @Cut Twice Yup…Lol. I seem to recall the longest filibuster was something like 20 hours and the speaker wore an adult diaper. That was a true political theater.

  5. As an external observation from Australia; your democracy is frozen and unable to take the necessary action required to become functional again. This is especially the case when Democrats won’t vote to get rid of the filibuster!!

  6. There is one huge obvious work around to the minimum wage all to gather. It’s called unions. If you can unionize at least 70%, 75% of all employed workers in USA there won’t be a need to have a minimum wage in the first place.

  7. Here are a few paths to higher hourly rate….any formal training program be it a trade school, formal collage, or a certificate program. Pick one they are everywhere, Military. Dont bring a life into the world if u cant support yourself.

  8. Maybe Pramila Jayapal can form a party to get wage Rise. Be united Talk is Cheap . Don’t rush into something !!!!after 35 days being in power!

  9. Moscowmitch said the people are too stupid to know what the bill means but that is why the people have him to decide what he wants to do.

  10. Is it just me, or does Jayapal look like “Jigsaw” from the film *SAW* ???? It seems that Jigsaw was a little bit brighter though.. Thanks.

  11. Bernie was right when he said this was the only way to do it and mark my words from this day forward they’ll be excuse after excuse after excuse why the Democrats simply can’t do it now it took four years has passed and people are so fed up that we have another Republican president

  12. I like that lady and hope the Democrats will get that wage increase law passed so the people who need it to survive. She speaks the language of the working people and if the Democrats can deliver they should gain more seats in Congress the next election.
