DOJ sues Texas over six-week abortion ban

The Biden Justice Department sued the state of Texas on Thursday over its new six-week abortion ban, saying the state law is unconstitutional. Announcing the lawsuit at a news conference in Washington, Attorney General Merrick Garland said the Texas law's "unprecedented" design seeks "to prevent women from exercising their constitutional rights by thwarting judicial review for as long as possible."

  1. Texas Court System : _Does nothing._

Department of Justice : *_Fine i will do it myself._*

  2. *_Lets do the same thing with guns and avoid the second amendment._*

Civilian Bounty hunters can sue gun shops and gun manufacturers. The federal government is not responsible for it because they aren’t the ones who sued them. 😁

    1. You must see a lot of people that don’t like Biden, hence your name. A very large majority of Americans don’t like Biden.

    2. @Jester Avrgjoe No the law would be written to attack gun owners, just put a bounty on the use of assault weapons. Start with banning discharging a weapon outside of a designated area, then refuse every gun range authorisation or gun stores. To keep things aligned you do need to have actually discharged your firearm just have intent to for someone to file suit.
Next ban the transportation of ammunition; again create hefty bounties and fines then most big stores would stop supplying them, small stores might make a stand but would spend their life drowning in legal action brought by anyone which would bankrupt them.
By imposing a fine of at least 10k per unauthorized discharge and 1,000 bucks per bullet that would be paid to those who brought the lawsuit. Essentially your right to own guns would not been infringed but you can never use them….and there would be nothing you could do without the government creating a law to allow the discharging of weapons. We all know how long that takes.

Yeah some idiots will start shooting to make a point but they would be spending a great deal of time in prison. Admittedly it would be hilarious watching the cosplay GI Joes getting arrested for carrying bullets but not an AAR15. These militias would be fined out of existence and there wouldn’t be an armed fools showing up at public events.

I’m guessing we can rely on your support getting the Texan tax overturned and this whole plan squashed.

    1. A scheme to protect an unborn child? An abortion is heartbreaking. Protecting an unborn baby is not a scheme it’s the right thing to do.

  3. It’s great to see the federal government stepping in to protect the rights of women residing in Texas that have been taken away by Draconian Trumpist legislators.

    1. 14th Amendment of the US Constitution is what upholds Roe v Wade. It’s our RIGHT TO PRIVACY. Unless they’re saying our medical records are up for the government to see whenever they like, this isn’t just about women’s rights. This is about all of us, not just feminism. I’m not pro-abortion, but I am pro-privacy, thus pro-choice.

  4. I heard the statement that Republicans are about small government and staying out of peoples way giving them the right to choose. Republicans may say one thing but they want to legislate morality and stay out of the way of big old economy business like oil, mining, pharmaceuticals, and the defense industrial complex, and health care.

    1. @surely you joke, mein failüre You have freedoms but they end at the moment it involves purposefully killing other people.

    2. @JOYA MAHAN Sorry to tell you but there has always been abortions way before and after Christ. Read your bible again it talks about abortion and God could have struck these women down when he sent his only son to save the world of sin.

    1. Frank Graham was already posting to his flock to push back against the left stacking the courts, sounds like they are worried

  5. simply badass Mr Garland. The voice of reason for all americans. I live in Texas and many faces in the public need to change, tired of lies and politics

    1. @Janel Goolsby – It is true. You people would much rather have Virginia Governor, Ralph Northam. He said a baby could be delivered full term and the mother could still be allowed to abort it. Sick people.

  6. “Consider a scenario where you are a perfect bone marrow match for a child with severe aplastic anemia; no other person on Earth is a close enough match to save the child’s life, and the child will certainly die without a bone marrow transplant from you.”

“If you decided that you did not want to donate your marrow to save the child, for whatever reason, the state cannot demand the use of any part of your body for something to which you do not consent. It doesn’t matter if the procedure required to complete the donation is trivial, or if the rationale for refusing is flimsy and arbitrary, or if the child is a genius or a saint or anything else – the decision to donate must be voluntary to be constitutional.”

“This right is even extended to a person’s body after they die; if they did not voluntarily commit to donate their organs while alive, their organs cannot be harvested after death, regardless of how useless those organs are to the deceased or how many lives they would save. That’s the law.”

“Use of a woman’s uterus to save a life is no different from use of her bone marrow to save a life – it must be offered voluntarily.”

“By all means, profess your belief that providing one’s uterus to save the child is morally just, and refusing is morally wrong. That is a defensible philosophical position, regardless of who agrees and who disagrees. But legally, it must be the woman’s choice to carry out the pregnancy.”

“She may choose to carry the baby to term. She may choose not to. Either decision could be made for all the right reasons, all the wrong reasons, or anything in between. But it must be her choice, and protecting that right of body autonomy means the law is on her side. Supporting that precedent is what being pro-choice means.”

    1. @Jacey2c I expect you’ll be donating your marrow as soon as possible then, and if not… well… whatever your reasoning will be “a lot of justification for killing a human life.” Why is more respect offered to the organs of a deceased person than the organ of a living person? If “heartbeat” were the only definition of life, why can we pull the plug on brain-dead patients without calling it “murder”? Life and consciousness are not black-and-white. It’s incredibly gray and fuzzy. Thinking in black-and-white terms gives us the out of turning off critical thought. Just fitting things into neat little boxes. Thing is, most things DON’T fit into neat little boxes. The world eventually teaches us all that.

  7. Technically by Federal Executive Standards the Administration can interfere by Arresting Poachers, Vigilantes, and anyone using the Texan law to prosecute women who seek medical abortion treatment.

    1. Are you freakin’ kidding me?! They’re not even investigating the rapes that have already happened and NOW they want to outlaw the only option these women have to put this thing behind them. Those men are monsters and don’t deserve to live let alone collect paychecks from the state. They clearly don’t represent women so cut their paychecks in half and then cut it again in half because they are not representing the children of the state either. The republicans are the scum of the earth. It’s official and no other discussion need take place. Get every one of those scum bags out of office. Run them out on a rail if you have to but get them the hell out of power.

    2. @Mega Watts the fact you are ok with women being raped and forced to carry children they don’t want is much more of an abomination.

    3. @AndrewClips V It’s ok your gaming habits are instant birth control no chick is going to be asking for your three inch killer! lol

  8. Gov. Abbott is concerned about unborn babies, but he could care less about the lives of Texans regarding the spread of COVID in his state.

    1. Yep live in Texas we are almost at full herd immunity. Haven’t you noticed how few people die from the flu. You know that used to be one of the leading cause of death of the elderly but it has disappeared in the last year or so. 🤔

    2. And tx has the death penalty, God commanded that thou shall NOT kill period, you cant just care about the fetus, every life matters if a woman has an abortion, that’s between her and God.

    3. @S D *….are you being facetious? If you aren’t, you are incredibly confused. Abortion is a key conservative platform issue and they are **_vehemently against_** pro choice. Therefore, it doesn’t make one iota of sense to claim “the left only cares about eliminating minorities and the indigent due to believing they are inferior and less than human”. If the left believes they are indeed the “Master Race”, wouldn’t they want to furiously populate the country with numerous humans in their likeness? Help me get my head around your (flawed) logic.*

  9. Wow, now this is how a DOJ and Attorney General is supposed to act. No statements of bias, no need to defend from questions about unfairness. No personal statements about how things feel to them. A thorough explanation as to why they are doing something and then leaving it up to the process of law.

It’s always weird to remember how things are supposed to be after so long of it being the opposite.

    1. It’s false that most women don’t know they are pregnant before six weeks. Tired & frustrated of this argument & tired of hearing from men on this issue.

  10. Texas’s law is obviously sidestepping the government’s responsibility in enforcing laws. And shame on the Supreme Court for not ruling as such already

    1. @H00die Logic No, but when there are 60 million baby dead from abortions. How meny brain dead but with a heartbeat are there? I very much doubt that it’s 60 million since abortions have been legal….

    2. @Sandra Stone man do not get to just walk away completely… where is this coming from? If a boy gets molested by his teacher, and gets pregnant he has to pay Child support to his molester….. men have no genetic rights in the United States… and if you think we do, then enlighten me. Because I haven’t found anything that actually proves we do as men….

    3. @Jose Jimenez it is my right to choose to terminate a pregnancy. If men don’t want women to have Abortions all they have to do is refrain from having sex with an unprotected female. Keep your genitals out of vaginas and voila no more unwanted pregnancies.

  11. Texas doesn’t get to claim they’re “helping women” by banning abortions and giving NO additional funding to child care and leaving rape kits unscanned.

    1. Exactly. His lies about doing whatever it takes to stop rape were an outrage. The hypocrisy is thick in the Republican party.
