@Rondalyn Reynolds : Short answer. First, pre pardon implies being pardoned for future crimes. Ford pardoned Nixon for crimes already committed in connection to Watergate but not yet uncovered. Second, precedent was set by Ford so Trump-Pence have that to call back on. Also there doesn’t appear to be any role for the courts to play in a presidential pardon so there really doesn’t seem to be a way to challenge it.

No in all seriousness. You threw a whole lot of stuff together in one breath here. And you assumed that life is good for me and it’s easy. As if I believe my needs are above others. It’s quite the opposite actually. My faith reminds me to be more humble and more accepting of others. To appreciate what little I have now because even though it’s not much, it’s something and there are people, neighbors even, who have even less. And I’ve been to places where the less of others I know is still considered luxury. So you don’t need to enlighten me to the struggles many face. The whole talk about the “taking the ‘me’ out of things” from the last comment has given me the ability to yield and become even more aware of what people go through on various levels.
And. You wonder why I added my faith in this conversation….but I wondered why you commented on my original comment when we weren’t even in conversation????
But I think I understand why and your perspective. You hear the word “God” and you see oppression, abuse, and pedophilia, and the crusades and the “God Wills It” nonsense spewed by millions who crave power, ambition, fueled by hate and tribalism. Used by those who will tell you that if you aren’t loyal to them, then you’re not loyal to “God”, thus deserve nothing but the grave and the hell beyond it. Or “God” just sits back and lets chaos reign and whoever shows the greatest fervor to “him” will get paradise while others are tortured eternally.
Yeah I know those types. I am aware of history and theology’s failings. But what you see as “God” I see as the failings of humanity and our “God Complex”. I equate the “God Complex” to the devil – in a metaphoric, flawed human sense. And I believe there’s a spiritual sense to it as well.
There’s also a complication that your conjuring here when it comes to identifying our holy book. Was it “Written by God” or “Inspired by God”? A question that if correctly answered by those of my faith can truly understand what the bible is about and its purpose. However this will take a longer comment and more time than I can truly afford to debate about and go over.
Still. Let me leave you with this, Tenly2009. There’s often a debate on why my community (the Black community or African Americans) are so stubborn in following Christianity (and Islam as well) when the Bible and Christianity was used to enslave, oppress, and segregate my community across the U.S. and western world. Some of us (like I once did) believed that we were doing nothing but reinforcing our own oppression. Worshipping a ‘White Jesus’ to give this country and the West the “divine authority” of why my ancestors were 3/5s of a person (and my indigenous ancestors were savages and injuns and I even heard “red niggers” too).
But I also started to understand the importance of God and the “idea of God” as the cornerstone of my ancestors who use that faith to empower themselves. To revolt against their injustices. To lead and usher in civil rights, etc. And this is why BLM is supported by many Black folks who are Christians (yes I know some Black Christians do not at all) because while Jesus and Christianity for the west was spreading the gospel via imperialism, for Black folks it was “Jesus will lead us to revolution”. Our view wasn’t influenced by European monarchs and religions cozying up to those kings and queens. Our view was closer to liberation theology and seeing our oppression as a result of what’s wrong with the world.
Yet then. My appreciation and warming up to my faith became deeper as I started to learn more about the origin of Christianity, etc. Discovering that my ancestors from the source(Africa) had already established and followed Christianity, Islam, Judaism long before Europeans knew the names of these religions. See Ethiopia for some context.
And even before then our spirituality, in all its forms across a diverse range of peoples, had followed similar practices. And had similar faiths. In very simplistic terms we (ancestral wise) had always believed in a spirit that was active in the life of the Universe. I’m sure you’ll find that across the world. Which is why even though I am a Christian I accept those who follow paths that are parallel to my faith (and those that are not parallel). Especially since I can’t judge another when I am not pure of heart —- and that does not me I’m evil or bad. It means that I’m human and humans aren’t as perfect as we promote ourselves to be. If we were then we would’ve already solved so many problems. That’s also not to say that we can ignore others and wait on God to fix it. As it’s claimed by the central figure of my faith that we can move mountains if we tried and were more responsible and accountable for our actions. If we reflected upon our failings and tried to do better. Collectively.
I know we will probably disagree on God, his existence and perspective. But my perspective comes from a different place than yours. Maybe you struggled more on your path. I don’t know because I don’t know you personally and it’s not my business to know. But you can’t assume because I follow my faith that I am less than or less intelligent or lost in my imagination. Because you sound like the same people who you rally against. And I don’t assume ill will of you or believe you are less intelligent. I see from your comment that your hurt and you’ve been through or witnessed how religion can end up being a tool to destroy and instead of bring understanding, and discovery, spirutality and even science.
Finally. I only brought up Christianity to William (my original comment) because I see so many Christians following Trump down a path that leads to danger. Morally I am not aligned to Trump. Nor politically wise. But this is becoming ridiculous. And I know of Trump. If you grew up where I’m from (which were many places, we struggled alot when I was young too, honestly; never stable) you’d recognize trump as a con artist selling you bs. You’d recognize it a mile away. But beyond that I’ve always felt there were something else that was dangerous about him beyond what’s known. Spiritually I’m talking about. Maybe I’m tripping but still…
