In the context of epidemiology, that’s the difference between increasing virulence and hence “function” over simply being able to make the jump and attach to mammalian ACE2 receptors. This is why the entire “funding” nonsense brought up by right-wingers makes little logical sense, and most certainly does not consist of any lying on Dr. Fauci’s part.
