I wanted to start going to the gym. I was concerned about the virus. So, I started tracking NYC deaths using Worldometers. Here are my numbers to date.
All Covid deaths by borough bet. 11/06 and 12/17:
Borough: 11/06 — 12/17 — Total Deaths
> BKN: 7,417 — 7,587 — 170
> BRX: 5,002 — 5,069 — 67
> MAN: 3,201 — 3,259 — 58
> QNS: 7,301 — 7,434 — 133
> STA: 1,099 — 1,202 — 103
— 531 total NYC deaths in 42 days (11/06 to 12/17)
— Equals 12.64 deaths per day for all NYC
— NYC population is 8.3 million people
Using my numbers above, and if my math is correct, the chance that a NYC resident will die of Covid today (12/18) is 0.0002%. Not 2%… 0.0002%. (12.64 deaths per day, divided by 8.3M people = 0.00015%, round up to 0.0002%)
