Ex-Deputy AG: DOJ between rock and hard place with Trump affidavit

This week the Department of Justice will present which portions of the Mar-a-Lago search affidavit it thinks should be redacted and why. Some of former President Donald Trump's allies have pushed for the release of documents, but the DOJ says it has concerns that unredacted documents could compromise its investigation. Donald Ayer, former deputy attorney general under President George H.W. Bush joins New Day to discuss. #CNN #News

  1. You can call a person who pleads the 5th over 440 times in just one deposition many things, but you can’t call them innocent. 🤣🤣

    1. @Jeannie Smith “Probable Cause” is a broad undefinable term that means “Fishing For Anything”…….

  2. Just appoint a Bill Barr who publicly states ‘I’ve read the affidavit and just trust me it’s all okay’. I was under the impression Merrick said ‘without fear OR FAVOR’! So stop doing the dirtbag favors! 😠

    1. “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 4:17

“Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” Matthew 5:38-39:

    1. No charges doesnt mean nothing is coming from the investigation. These things take time, and yes, many of us feel impatient but those who want the law to be done right dont want the DOJ to be biased and jump the gun.

  3. no they’re not. DoJ is under No Obligation
    to “show ” you anything..unless they’re Charging YOU…period.

  4. They wouldn’t be in a ‘hard place’ had this country a functioning justice system, one that didn’t pander to the rich & famous.

  5. The case’s security is the most important thing. Garland should not to bow to Trump’s challenges, demands, or threats.

If he feels a need to do release info, he should do as Barr did with Mueller’s report: Redact almost EVERYthing.

… And then explain AGAIN, that the case’s security would otherwise be compromised … And keep working on the case instead of allowing Trumpers to be “the tail wagging the dog.”

    1. @Merril R BTW, it was USA Today and NY Times that initially made the assertion of Trump having a policy of ‘America First.’ Do you know anything at all? Maybe go learn something before you start spouting your scatological analysis at others.

    2. @P Money Are you part of the old “Bund Society” 🤔 obviously you don’t know how to read or you’d know what I say is FACT not fiction

    3. @P Money I’ll do the search for you… Wikipedia:

The America First Committee (AFC) was the foremost United States isolationist pressure group against American entry into World War II.[1][2] Launched in September 1940, it surpassed 800,000 members in 450 chapters at its peak.[3] The AFC principally supported isolationism for its own sake, and its coalition included many Midwesterners, Republicans, conservatives, socialists, students, and leading industrialists, but it was controversial for the anti-Semitic and pro-fascist views of some of its most prominent speakers, leaders, and members.[4][5][6] The AFC was dissolved on December 11, 1941, four days after the attack on Pearl Harbor brought the United States into the war.

  6. This makes no sense at all, they never show any information until someone gets arrested, they clearly show it in the warrant of what they are looking into.

    1. @Bombastic Enterprise Travesty is , WHAT exactly is cause for any arrest ? Including, what EXACTLY, were FBI agents looking for ?

    2. @Gary Gagnon They never show any information until someone gets arrested.
Alright then, I’m all in for releasing the affidavit … and put the handcuffs on Trump at the same time 😆

  7. I would like to know that if these documents were so special to have the FBI involved, why did it take a year for them to go get them.

    1. they were government property willingly witheld from the government with no indication that they would ever be turned over. Lets say therefore the officials in charge of the record keeping then make a plea with the DOJ, they explain this is a violation of law and government. The DOJ agrees, They get a judge to agree, and thus the warrant is signed over for the FBI to go into Maralago which the FBI proceded to do, they recovered the documents. I dont see what it hard to understand.

    1. If that was happening it would’ve happened already but they’ve been sending Trump to jail for a decade now which is why they look so stupid now

  8. Judge never should have suggested he would release anything – it’s just more special treatment – against the concept that no one is above the law – and why we should care what people think about whether someone should be investigated or prosecuted is absolutely absurd. The law is the law – the only time public opinion should matter is if or when DOJ declines to do its job – and lets people off – not when they are enforcing laws – in which case, Jury Nullification is how the public speaks on the matter.

  9. “The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.”- George Orwell

  10. The Judge understands
the sensitive nature of the Affidavit. The information will come out in any trial so why the rush to
    Fiasco by the Judge.

  11. If anyone had stolen ts sci docs and lied about having them, then found to have them, they’d be in jail awaiting prosecution!

    1. @Sean McCartney president ps don’t break laws, other than Nixon. I refuse to use the word “president” to describe Mr. Trump

    2. What if that person destroys all the evidences such as bleaching the server or taking a hammer to their phones?

    1. @Richard Maher you’re right, public office is way worse to make money off of, private citizens can make money however they want.

    2. @P Money yeah barely, he’s a grifter who’s on the cusp of being broke until his next grift. He sure hit the jackpot with you guys tho, he’ll never be broke again thanks to right wing donations. I hope y’all keep donating every dime you have to him, that’ll prevent any real candidate from having a shot and we’ll keep office for a long time 😁

    1. couldn’t have said it best. Someone should tell that to the judge. He’s probably creating technicalities 45’s lawyers won’t hessitate to use in the future and blame the judge for it.
