      Well, we’ve both done some homework. I appreciate your generous responses but I tend to disagree with your references. The Koran (do you prefer Quran?) is full of terrible mistranslations, as are the Bible and Torah. You’ve done exactly what I questioned: citing verses that are preferential to you but very likely mistranslated. For the sake of argument, let’s say your quotes are perfect and mine aren’t. Read your preferred interpretations and then tell me in all honesty that that’s a world that still makes perfect sense to you and is still just. Not unlike the US constitution, which is continuously subjected to reinterpretation, the holy books continue to suffer much longer and similar indecent fates.
      Perhaps you can help me: in the 21st century, under what righteous religion would you care to subjugate half of your own population to something barely above disaffected chattel? Even religious beliefs evolve. But it seems to me that most orthodox religions have devolved. For whom is that good? Not for any god I can even imagine.

    3. ​@Douglas Woodruff I am half-Japanese if you are so intrigued.

      I prefer the scientific method to make sense of what each one of us perceives to be reality. I am for any guess, hypothesis, and even theory to be vulnerable to evidence and therefore open to course correction. Religions have their boundaries set in stone and are therefore unable to follow the evidence wherever it leads. Also, I don’t take moral guidance from them as they are little more than fossils of what literal ignorami thought to be good. Ethics just like science should be improved and not ossified. I look at Marcus Aurelius, Immanuel Kant, Jeremy Bentham, and others for good thoughts on ethics.

      So, I wasn’t altogether wrong. You gave me an educational akhi link but it didn’t provide a clear decoboco connection. Why did you wait?
      Regardless, I appreciate your frankness and hope that our educational differences can result in better appreciations for different reads on reality. In my view, all orthodox religions need to embrace change and kinder considerations of contrary views. As an atheist, I find it difficult to believe that orthodox religions have done anyone much permanent good with the exception of outstanding examples of music, fine art, and exquisite architecture. The rest is mostly unfortunate.

    2. It’s because in the Quran ALLAH commands modesty of both men and women.
      And tells believing (who believe in islam) men to lower their eyes when they see a woman.
      As a sign of respect and guarding one’s eyes.

      He might not be looking at the camera because it is near or behind or besides the woman maybe.

    3. ​@Usama Sadiq , she is already modest. He can look at her face she speaking to her. If he does the same with a man, he should do the same when speaking with a woman. No need to sexualise a woman’s face. If he hates looking into people’s eyes in general, then it would be fine (which is a separate issue from sexualise a woman’s face).

    2. @Just a random cockatiel Yup. I am pretty sure he mentions deobandi at the 5th minute where he is asked aboyt his daughter. I don’t understand western media doesn’t dwelve into the school of thought that taliban subscribe too and the concept of pashtun pathanwali culture. These 2 elements are essential in understanding the taliban and their subgroups. Infact pashtunwali is such a big part that apart from race/ethnicity is an important factor in understanding other deoband hardline organizations and terror groups within pakistan. For example the deoband terrorist ogranizations in southern punjab might be aligned with taliban on some issues but in essence quite different.
