People who aren’t in the high risk categories, like frontline healthcare workers, the elderly in long term facilities, etc., probably won’t be able to get the vaccine until April or even June next year. At that point, the vaccine will be available through pharmacy chains like Walgreens, Rite Aid and CVS.
Basically, we’re just going to have to wait–which is good because then we’ll be able to see if any serious side effects happen before it becomes our turn.

@vulcan stein I see, then, death is the only thing we should prevent. Let’s get rid of padding for football and hockey players, then. How many would actually die without it and how many would just have crushed bones, which could be repaired with expensive operations, perhaps leaving them disabled for life, but not dead. How much does it cost a patient who is intubated and recovers? $1.49? $149,000? Which number is closer? How many have lung, brain or heart dysfunction after they recover from the bout with COVID? It must be moronic to look both ways before crossing the street or stop at a red light. What is the percentage of people in car accidents who actually die? Not very high. There are millions of accidents every year, but “only” 30,000 deaths. 1% of the American population is 3,300,000. We’ve already sacrificed more than 300,000 of them. Not a bad idea to try to save the other 3 million, especially if one of them turns out to be vulcan stein.

What’s ridiculous is people still suspicious that the vaccine will do them more harm. I realize there were instances where (for example) African Americans were lied to with supposed safe vaccines and that’s why many; especially in the African American community are against it. But the alternative is getting COVID, spreading it, and potentially dying from it and also contributing to others dying as well.

And the lab? We do ALL the testing and get no credit! I’ve lost 3 collogues to the virus since April and have had to take a break as I am over 50 and suffer from pulmonary sarcoidosis. Nobody appreciates or understands what we do and how much of any hospital depends almost entirely on its laboratory .
