First Votes Counted On Election Night May Give False Impression Of Vote Leader | Rachel Maddow

Rachel Maddow shares advice from election experts who explain that in-person Election Day votes may be cast by a greater proportion of Republicans, so the counting of those ballots first could show an early "mirage" of stronger showing by Donald Trump than is true once the count of mail-in ballots is added. Aired on 10/28/2020.

First Votes Counted On Election Night May Give False Impression Of Vote Leader | Rachel Maddow

  1. One of the first things Biden and Dems must do, is reverse all of the voter suppression obstacles Republicans put into place, and make voting a national holiday, like it is in other countries.

    1. Why bother…if Biden wins…good chance it might be the last election America ever sees…at least until socialism fails 20 years down the road!

    1. There is no greater motivator for voting than peer pressure. reminding the American people what at stake this election is working wonders on getting people to vote. now that’s not to say what they’re doing is nefarious what they’re doing is what they should be doing, pressuring people to vote. unfortunately there’s just a lot of things to make us anxious this election. Over 80 million people now have voted.

    2. It’s SUPPOSED to. Look into trauma-based mind control. They pander to your virtues and trigger your unconscious. It’s the dark art of psychology. Then look into the Smith and Mundt act. Its supposed to protect Americans from state propaganda but these people subvert the laws. This is why Anderson Cooper is in his position. His father is former CIA and he is a part of the Vanderbuilt family. He covers for the elite who have been running the country for decades. That’s what this person is doing! Fear and anxiety leads to irrational thought and you cannot live in the moment and you make irrational decisions. In Star Wars terms, it’s the dark side of the force. Fox news does it, CNN, they ALL DO IT. You’ve been given information now use it and wake up.

    1. ¿ Care to check your English skills @newf newf ? You may want to edit your post.
As is you sound like a Russian troll using bad translation software.

    2. It’s actually mind-boggling just how pathetic and shameful the Democrats have become
      tinyurl.com/y6z494yu 👈😳

    3. How weak a person is by looking at the swamp whisperer for strength. Especially the women that support him… When did you lose your dignity and self respect that was taught to you by your parents (???)???

  2. Only the weakest most pathetic little boys in America look up to Baby Donny Trump as a strong kid in the playground. The loudest kid in class getting told to be quiet is always the dumbest.

    1. To be honest, I’m surprised that it took this long for this corruption to bubble over into public view. America is ruled by majority shareholders of corporations, not citizens, and profit is king.
With most politicians bought by this corporation or that, and corporations themselves unaccountable for the decisions politicians make in their name, is it any surprise that there is a huge amount of money going into effort to keep trump in power. Simply because he has no qualms about selling anything and anyone if he’s paid.
Look what he did with environmental protections. Or opening national parks for mining industry. Or allowing corps to start drilling in protected areas in alaska, putting thousands of already endgengered species at risk.
And that’s just tip of the iceberg. Below it are massive tax cuts for corporations and their rich owners, and way, way more. Most of it hidden behind the courtain of news about covid, or constant string of outrages coming from white house.

    2. Yes, we did this to ourselves we were lazy lost in our personal spaces and turned our back on each other and this country. But we will fix this it’s Merica❤️🇺🇸

  3. The 2018 mid term results took a few days to be collated. At first it looked like the _blue wave_ was a dud, but as more votes got counted, that wave turned into a deluge.

It’s going to be a long week, next week.

    1. Indeed, but after this four years of madness it’s a small price, grueling, but a small price. It’s the wait until January 20th that has me feeling anxious about what that nutjob in the White House might brew up.

    2. Gore vs Bush….Due to hanging chads,Gore was given a deadline by the U.S. Supreme Court to have ballots counted by Dec.12. From what I remember that deadline couldn’t be met & Gore conceded. Way more votes this time! I worry the Supreme Court Will side with trump & give an unrealistic amount of time for votes to be counted even though we’re in the midst of a pandemic & absentee votes are high. All votes should be counted & I’m confident Biden will win & America will start to recover but I worry about the Supreme Courts involvement.🌊🌊🌊

    1. @TheBase1aransas Republicans have been crying Democratic corruption since W. Bush. Republicans have been corrupting the Democratic process at every junction for years, in local, state and federal elections. In hindsight, they’ve been right. lol

  4. I grew up in Alaska and this always happens because there are little village that only get mail and send mail once a week or month.

    1. Oh well thats there problem Alaska got to plan for this nov 3rd is deadline thats it this is trump added new Justice Amy to supreme court to make sure that the rule of law Constitution says plain and simple Nov 3 all votes must be in thats it.

    2. @Keoki Kamehameha It’s always been the policy that if a mail-in ballot is postmarked by Election Day then it will be counted. Why all of the sudden do they want to ignore this precedent? Oh, I know why! The Republicans want to steal the election, that’s why! ALL valid ballots MUST be counted. That’s the only fair way to conduct an election. Bunch of voter suppressing idiots out here, I swear.

    1. @Bill Simons not true, Florida has already started checking their early ballots. Only the machines know the numbers.

    2. @Maureen Peterson I have no problem with mandatory voting or registration…as long as it’s mandatory that every person voting can name at least a few of their candidates positions. Have you seen some of these college kids interviewed? Not a clue…I don’t care who they vote for as long as they can articulate a reason to do so!

    3. @Glenn Witham Good point and I agree – people remain ignorant and it’s to their detriment- but if you don’t vote you can’t complain about what happens! I wish people would stay informed! The reason there is so much corruption is because people don’t pay attention and don’t hold the perpetrators accountable! I’m sure our system is not perfect but it is sacred and treated as such – it’s nothing like the corruption of American voting! Never knew it was so bad!

  5. It makes no sense to me why mail in ballots aren’t counted when they come in. The ballot is going to magically change to someone else if you open and count it before Nov 3rd. The USA is a first world country with a third world election system.

  6. There’s nothing in the Constitution or Declaration that says we need a definitive winner on election night. Who cares? The electorial college isn’t verified until Dec 10 this year… so, we have 4 1/2 weeks to sort this out. No reason to call this quick….. oh, oops, we have a 6-3. Nevermind.

  7. This is like standing in line for the haunted house at Disney world. Your all eager to get on the ride, then you look at a long winding line and you feel defeated and dejected, but you stick it out. You then notice sign nearby that says the wait is about 15 minutes from here. At this point you become happy because your expectations of a great ride is only a small time away. If had not seen that sign the fifteen minutes would seem an unendurable eternity. Moral, be patient.

    1. For people that endured the Clintons, Bushes, and Obama, a week is like a blink of the eye. God Bless Trump2020.

    1. Whose” They’re “? Whoever they are they must be crooked??? Remember we’re all patriots…blue or red…sooner we care about each other..sooner we move on to fixing hunger, poverty, police violence, inequalities of all kind.

  8. brilliantly said, ty dr maddow! and indeed, that is why trumputin is trying so hard to discredit any absentee/mail-in votes. we must hang in there, wait for the full count!

  9. §&īťš is about to get real…I am over all of this drama the whole four years was like a soap opera but with real world consequences…so exhausting

  10. I fear the scenario where trump declares himself the winner on Election Day, and in the next days, several mysterious fires will destroy all the uncounted mail in ballots

  11. I have been patient for four years. I can wait for as long as it takes. Everyone who votes deserves to have their ballot counted.

  12. They should hold off giving information early. If we have to wait, this time more than others need to be careful. We waited this long!!!
