Fixing America's Health Care System Amid Crisis | Morning Joe | MSNBC

    1. @William H Music 2020 Actually, thanks to big lobbying money, the insurance industry will manage to make a fortune under any politically feasible scenario. But maybe we can get more people covered.

  1. I wonder how a medical system maximized for the best health outcomes differs from a health care system designed to maximize profit.

    1. A lot! I’m dying from the side effects of an UCSF surgery (open laparotomy) based on a misdiagnosis, and stuck in diagnostic algorithms.

    2. The current crisis certainly shows the difference. In Canada, the COVID death rate in private, for profit, long term care homes is about 4 times that of municipal run ones. Also, some for profit homes are now being run by local hospitals and the military is helping in others. Apparently, some appalling conditions have been found at some for profit homes.

This is what happens with for profit health care, where all too often profit comes at the expense of patient care.

    3. @urbanimage When talking with liberal “males” it’s just about impossible not to discuss HOMOSEXUALITY obviously.

  2. PEOPLE ARE COMMERCIAL FED TV HOGS! if you listen to one commercial without muting it, your what is wrong with this world!

    1. Even Mexico has their own version of single payer healthcare. So even a country that we consider a 3rd world country, has a more advanced healthcare system than the U $ A.

    2. AMA & ADA have been fighting for over 150 years by lobbying & legal suits against nurses & dental hygienists going annually to schools to give free inspection & treatment to kids & nipping severe illnesses in the bud. Why keeping a child healthy & educating a child how to remain healthy, when you can make a fortune out of lifelong illnesses? You’d better run your society like a business!

    1. @Kevin K. don’t pick on Joe Biden. That’s just Joe being Joe. He can’t help it that he’s a racist and he gave in to the Russians.

    2. “If you can’t take care of your sick in the country, forget it, it’s all over. I mean, it’s no good. So I’m very liberal when it comes to health care. I believe in universal health care. I believe in whatever it takes to make people well and better.”
― The Donald @ Larry King Live, October 1999

“A friend of mine was in Scotland recently. He got very, very sick. They took him by ambulance and he was there for four days. He was really in trouble, and they released him and he said, ‘Where do I pay?’ And they said, ‘There’s no charge.’ Not only that, he said it was like great doctors, great care. I mean we could have a great system in this country.”
― The Donald @ The David Letterman Show, January 2015

“We’re going to have insurance for everybody. We’re going to have a healthcare that is far less expensive and far better.”
― The Donald @ interview with The Washington Post, January 2017

“I don’t want to pivot… If you start pivoting, you’re not being honest with people.”
― The Donald @ interview with Wisconsin television station WKBT, August 2016

“I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and wouldn’t lose any voters, okay? It’s, like, incredible.”
― The Donald @ campaign rally in Iowa, January 2016

“I love all people, rich or poor, but in those particular [i.e. cabinet] positions I just don’t want a poor person.”
― The Donald @ rally in Iowa, June 2017

“I think if this country gets any kinder or gentler, it’s literally going to cease to exist.”
      ― The Donald @ Playboy, March 1990

“The point is that you can’t be too greedy.”
― The Donald @ “The Art of the Deal”, 1987

“It’s amazing, I can’t even believe it. I’ve been so lucky in terms of that whole world, it is a dangerous world out there. It’s like Vietnam, sort of. It is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave soldier.”
[speaking of having $ex and referring to women’s geпitals as “potential landmines”.]
― The Donald @ interview on The Howard Stern Show, November 1997

      “Vagiпa is expensive.”
― The Donald @ his wedding, as retold on The Howard Stern Show, 1997

“You can’t con people, at least not for long. You can create excitement, you can do wonderful promotion and get all kinds of press, and you can throw in a little hyperbole. But if you don’t deliver the goods, people will eventually catch on.”
― The Donald @ “The Art of the Deal”, 1987

    3. Right. Why can’t Trump do the right moral thing BEFORE hearing people complain? He’s immoral.

    1. @Dom We can’t afford accelerationist mindsets right now. People are dying by the frickin’ thousands.

  3. There’s nothing complex or mysterious about it.
Expand Medicare4All to everybody (as Trump already did for Coronavirus patients); stop allowing Big Pharma to price gouge on our medicine; be clear what medical-rights immigrants have; and set-up free drug clinics nationwide for heroin addicts.

  4. One of the invisible economic injustices of the present system is that parents and grandparents often are called on to pay for their adult childrens’ medical treatment when the kids lose their jobs and become sick or injured. We old folks in effect become the “insurance” payers of last resort, filling in the gaps left by the lousy employer-based eystem.
BTW, when you pay for uncovered doctor visits and Rx’s out of pocket, it’s EXTREMELY costly.

    2. Well, as long as you accept being forced into that roll, it’s certainly not going to change.

    3. @Nota Bene I admire providers who donate their time to free clinics, etc., but the very presence of these and various government nitch programs (Medicare, Medicaid, CHIPS, V. A., etc) highlight the inadequacy of private insurance. Even with all these programs, many (like my adult son) are uncovered.

    4. @Hans Kuijsten Being financially able,
we will not let our kids go without care when they’re in need. But it’s a bad system.

  5. When I look at the disgrace that is the U.S. health care system, I am glad I’m in Canada. Our health care is paid for through taxes. As a result, I can go to the doctor, hospital, diagnostic tests and more, at no cost to me.

    2. Same here, in the Netherlands. It’s all about solidarity.
A concept foreign to the US mind, on so many levels.

  6. Oh FFS You people how hard is it to understand that a universal health care system is best… look to your neighbour up north

  7. America needs to work out how to pay for Healthcare?
That’s the only part you’ve got right!
The USA pays more per person for healthcare than any other OECD country. And gets worse results. But your Insurance Providers, Pharma Companies & Healthcare Providers are more profitable than any one else’s. That’s the part you should worry about..

  8. — “Socialism doesn’t work!”
    — “But the Western European and Nordic countries are doing great with it.”
    — “That’s not real socialism! They’re basically capitalist.”
    — “Okay, let’s adopt their policies then.”
    — “No, that’s socialism.”

    1. True. I live and work in a social-democratic capitalist system.
It provides me with social security, a healthcare system that actually works, 6 weeks payed vacation every year, my own house, 2 kids in college, a wife on a 24 hr workweek and myself on a 32 hr workweek.
And I dabble for fun in stocks.

Who is better off, me or an average Yankee with 3 jobs, a ton of debts an a constant fear of getting sick?

      I’m waiting…….

  9. “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhuman.”
    ― MLK

  10. “Conservatives say if you don’t give the rich more money, they will lose their incentive to invest. As for the poor, they tell us they’ve lost all incentive because we’ve given them too much money.”
    ― George Carlin

  11. “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”
    ― Upton Sinclair

  12. “The American people will take Socialism, but they won’t take the label.”
    ― Upton Sinclair
