Flying above the Amazon fires: ‘All you can see is death’

France and the UK have pledged emergency funds to help countries affected by the fires in the Amazon rainforest.
CNN's Nick Paton Walsh flew over the devastated area in Rodonia, the Amazon's worst afflicted state, and filed this report.

    1. @Ilhan BROmar germany is going in the right direction ….there is no quick solution and no quick change … have to Start somewhere. cant just leave these Problems for Future generations to solve ,

    1. @Paula Dee There is a really good chance that the cure for cancer might be somewhere in the amazon.

    2. @Süleyman the Magnificent There’s also a really good chance that the cure for many cancers is already out there. Just don’t tell Big Pharma 🕵🏻‍♀️

    3. Julie Henderson Isn’t that the same France that carried out 193 nuclear tests in Polynesia and deposited 3200 tons of radioactive waste in the ocean?

    1. @WS P over the last 1000 years lots of animals have gone extinct. Can you tell us which new ones evolved during that time other than viruses? The scale of time needed is 100s of thousands to millions of years. We have brought on mass extinction in 200. Life cannot adapt or migrate in such a short time. We are the only ones who can decide to make changes in the way we live or nature is going to make a slight correction.

    1. You are correct. Most of the fires are on farm land that was already deforested. They are doing routine burns. Some of the fires are out of control but most aren’t. There’s a article from NYTs that is much better than this crap from CNN.

  1. Some small portion of humanity is trying to save the world, another larger group are trying to kill us and the rest don’t care.

    1. I’m Brazilian i voted for bolsonaro.he is president for only 7 months.the biggest deforestation was from 2003 to 2009 the problem is once illegal in the Amazon. There are 100,000 NGOs stealing our wealth

    2. Nick Stein you mean the socialist/communists? 130million murdered and counting! Are you one of those funny, backward, Jewish holocaust denier atheists?

    1. Sonu Di Gregorio said the human to the humans through plastic and synthetic parts provided by burning fossil fuels. Maybe just a tad hypocritical?

  2. What did you expect from Bolsanaro? A man that has said that he wants the police to kill poor people for being poor.

    1. @Noiseless Sounds You liberals always have a cause. And you are always ready to tell everyone else they have to fork over money to pay for your causes but hate it if someone tells you you liberals need to all band together and fork over the money to buy the farmers near the Anazon new farmlsnd elsewhere away from the Amazon to eliminate them from any chance of burning forest land to grow soybeans or food on.

    2. @Kip McEwen hell he is to blame for it he more or less “Denies that the amazon is needed since it hinders brazils economical development”. The “planets lung” is hindering us from extinction. Not that Bolsenaro whould know he more or less 360 on prosecuting those who deforest the amazon legal or otherwise.

2019 alone has been in pure deforstation the biggest hike since 2013. 2000 square miles of forest has been removed this year alone. Thats the size of a small state.

The emissions alone are nearing the numbers that they had back 2009 when they released nearly 500 million tons of Co2. Nearly 1% of the worlds total emissions… i can go on.

He has a job he better fucking solve it or he will be resolved.

    3. @Daniel Cotrim “Bolsonaro has previously described rainforest protections as an obstacle to Brazil’s economic development.”

“Bolsonaro, a right-wing populist, has dismissed protections for the Amazon rainforest — a vast ecosystem known as the “lungs of the planet” — as a barrier to economic development. Since taking office in January, he has encouraged farmers, ranchers and loggers to clear land in the Amazon, speeding up the rate of deforestation and encroaching on the land of indigenous peoples.”

“Let’s use the riches that God gave us for the well-being of our population,” Mr Bolsonaro said, before adding to any would-be prospectors: “You won’t get any trouble…”

“Let’s integrate these citizens and bring value to all Brazilians,
Let’s use the riches that God gave us for the well-being of our population, he said.”

“Destruction of the Amazon rainforestincreased by 88% for the month of June 2019, during Bolsonaro’s first year as president, as compared with the previous year, according to National Institute for Space Research (INPE). Bolsonaro has rejected the agency’s data as false. The IPSE director was fired after he rebutted Bolsonaro’s criticism of IPSE.”

“To take Araujo’s place, Salles has picked Eduardo Fortunato Bim, a lawyer who worked five years in the Attorney General’s Office. Bim favors reducing bureaucracywhen it comes to environmental licenses, a position in line with Bolsonaro’s campaign pledges to cut the fines Ibama imposes on landowners and businesses that break the law in the Amazon—fines the president deems “ideological.””

“Environmental experts raised concerns that the Brumadinho dam collapse—as well as another dam that burst in 2015—were certified as “stable” by independent auditors. There are more than 400 dams in the state of Minas Gerais. Meanwhile, Environment Minister Ricardo Salles described Brazil’s environmental regulation by saying it’s “complex and doesn’t work.” Bolsonaro promised to ease environmental laws claiming they are “an industry of fines.”

“Environmental experts also expressed concern with Bolsonaro’s plan to balance environmental protections with agribusiness, given the president’s remarks that his government is working to reconcile Brazil’s biodiversity and forest abundance with economic development. On January 18, Brazil’s agriculture minister cleared 131 pesticides for sale, in addition to 28 chemicals that were officially allowed in the country as of January 10. Experts told El País Brasil that the movement to increase the use of pesticides in the country has been growing exponentially since the previous government.”

Thats but a bunch of all sources

  4. The alleged self-praising “Super powers” are so slow to protect forests ! Ask them to war – done within minutes !

    1. Actually Trump has turned down war with Syria and is the first president in decades to make peace with major world leaders and has almost fully denuclearized North Korea. Sorry to ruin your fun with facts.

  5. Amazon forest provides 20% of oxygen in this planet. If these things continues then in future there would not be sufficient amount of oxygen for earth beings to survive!! 😢😢

  6. We are definitely going to face the wrath of nature’s anger in the coming years.hope we stop looking only for our pleasure or else we will become extinct in 200 yrs

  7. Hypocrisy from the NWO globalists as they modify our weather with chemtrails and start fires in California to centralize and control the masses…..

  8. A vision of the perfect Republican future; a world where massive corporations can literally charge you for the air you breathe.

  9. What price can u place on breathing? What is the U.S. and the Trump administration going to do to help save 20% of the world’s oxygen? Nothing?
