Fmr Watergate Prosecutor: Trump Brazenly Saving Stone Worse Than Nixon | MSNBC

Presidential historian Jon Meacham and former Watergate prosecutor Nick Akerman join “The Beat” to analyze President Trump’s historic commutation of longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone, who was convicted of lying to Congress and witness tampering. Akerman, who questioned Stone back in 1973, writing a rare op-ed in The New York Times about the case, arguing nothing he saw during Watergate “rises to what we are witnessing now with President Trump.” He further emphasized his point on the show, arguing “it can’t be that a President of the United States can grant clemency to somebody who was his own co-conspirator in which he has an obvious conflict of interest.”(This interview is from MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber, a news show covering politics, law and culture airing nightly at 6pm ET on MSNBC. ). Aired on 7/13/2020.

    1. Jon Thomas 😂 viruses kills vulnerable people it invades, not the ones that doesn’t listen.

Even if you wear a mask and forgot to wash your hand before taking off the mask, one can catch it. Not handling an infect mask carefully is a risk.

Oh and listen to who, Trump with his Trumpy-tales?

    2. Obama would never do the idiotic and corrupt things Trump does weekly. His only real scandal, executing via drone strikes, is something Trump has also done.

      #TRE45ON #AmericaOrTrump #countdownto46

    1. @Joes B4 Hose Thats the mayors of these cities. NYC mayor painting BLM and the crime just went up with a 1 year old shot dead. Not a single phone call from the mayor. Yet he believes painting BLM will change everything and defunding police. Are u oblivious to crime in the democratic cities or? Democrats don’t care about you, they care about your taxes for their benefit.

  1. Roger Stone was Trump’s connection to WikiLeaks. Rick Gates and Steve Bannon both testified under oath in Stone’s trial that Stone was Trump’s link to WikiLeaks, and everyone involved in Trump’s campaign knew about it.

Rick Gates testified under oath in Roger Stone’s trial that he was in the presidential limousine with Trump, and he’d heard Stone tell Trump about the WikiLeaks release of hacked DNC emails before the dump happened — a direct contradiction of what Trump told Mueller in his written testimony. Trump knew about every WikiLeaks release before they happened, but in his written testimony, he claimed he knew nothing about WikiLeaks, or the hacked emails.

It was Watergate all over again. Except this time, it was far worse. In this case, it wasn’t Americans physically breaking into the DNC headquarters, it was Russian intelligence officers hacking into the DNC servers. And Trump and his cronies were all in on it.

    1. @CITRUS KNIGHT not sure if it’s wrong but it is completely legal and it’s driving these people crazy.

    1. Joes B4 Hose So? We do not question a President’s power to grant clemency, so long as this President does not do so for his personal gain

    2. @Gilbert Meng 1,700! Of course he wasn’t getting and kickbacks. Just like all of that 150 billion in cash all went to Iran. 🙄

    3. @Joes B4 Hose First of all, former President Barack Obama *didn’t give “150 billion in cash”* to Iran.
The nuclear agreement included China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union, so *Obama didn’t carry out any part of it on his own.*
_The deal did lift some sanctions, which lifted a freeze on Iran’s assets that were held largely in foreign, not U.S., banks._
And, to be clear, the money that was unfrozen belonged to Iran. It had only been made inaccessible by sanctions aimed at crippling the country’s nuclear program.
Secondly, $150 billion is a high-end estimate of the total that was freed up after some sanctions were lifted.
U.S. Treasury Department estimates put the number at *about $50 billion* in “usable liquid assets,” according to 2015 testimony from Adam Szubin, acting under secretary of treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence.

So, that is your weak repeated lie debunked.

  2. The hoi polloi of his base don’t care that he is a known conman and criminal, because they are psychologically damaged beyond redemption. They don’t care about right and wrong. They treat politics the same way they treat sport and root for their team. They just want to see the other side suffer, even when it kills thousands.

  3. Manafort home, Stone home, Flynn home….. wow.. he is getting all his boys out before his presidency is over, hopefully the SDNY will lock him up Xmas morning

    1. Cohen marched back to prison for refusing to sign papers saying he would NEVER write a book about trump, Cohen wouldn’t sign , so back to prison for michael! So trumps an AUTHORITARIAN ,PROTECT ALL HIS THUGS WHO PROTECTED HIM JAIL FOR EVERYONE ELSE, INCLUDING INNOCENT CHILDREN WHO DID NOTHING ! PRESIDENT BLACKHEART!

    2. @TheMaryam1891 Cohen isn’t out partying , trump had him sent back to prison! Why would you believe anything that lying girl jared ?

    3. @Lee Anderson no that was what I said. The first reports were that was the reason he was sent back. We now know it was because he would not agree not talk or even have others speak in his behalf about King Donald. Glenn Kirshner showed the paper he refused to sign.

    4. @TheMaryam1891 I misunderstood , I thought you meant jared kushner , I had to reread your comment , sorry!

  4. The GOP stands steadfastly in support of the criminal co-conspirator of both Cohen and Stone – Liar-In-Chief Trump.

    1. No, giving 150 billion in cash to a terrorist nation that chants ”Death to America” is. Thank you Obamessiah.

  5. t’rump needs Russia’s help.
The kind of help only a traitor like Stone can provide.
    Sweet pick there, republicans!
Keep waving that American flag tho! 😅😂

    1. Ro G I think they are working on a way to make the Stars and Bars the new flag of the US. When all you can get for your work is food you are essentially a slave, so part one has been accomplished.

Apologies to all peoples of color for the analogy. Even a minimum wage worker has more freedom than a slave.

  6. Trump needs people like Stone for after his term to help him flee. Watch him run straight to Russia before he can be convicted. 😜

    1. Of course. Just like the ex Ukrainian President Yanukovych, who continues to deride NATO and Ukraine, and is now living in Russia. Trump will then continue to incite his followers back home after his exile, to rebel against the government, just like how he’s been doing it during the pandemic with his tweets to do likewise with the local state governments.

  7. Nixon: “I am not a crook.”
trump: “I’m a crook, so what.”
Republicans: “We’re all crooks, get over it.”

    1. @S nobody said that Republicans were the only crooks. I know that’s what you want to believe. That people are taking on this poor moron in the White House. You Republicans are such f****** morons I can’t believe it you just think about yourself and you don’t give a f*** about nobody else. Especially people that stood up for our constitution like military veteran. But you’re all chasing a f****** draft Dodger so what do you expect from f****** want to be Patriots

  8. Americans voted for Nixon to be president and he became a criminal.. Americans and Russians voted for tRumpstinky to keep doing criminal stuff with privileges

    1. @Jon Thomas Welcome to “Lesson of the day for illiterate trolls”: Nah, you’re just stupid. Notice the comma and the contraction? You’ll have to look that last word up, as your free lesson is over.

    2. @Mike Galbraith You stated no facts in your comment. Unless you can prove what he’s done with ligament proof and evidence. then you’re just stating an opinion that has zero meaning to it. There hasn’t been a single person that can state what Biden has accomplished caused they know they are full of crap and using the same excuses for years. Trump isn’t the greatest president but he is for sure a better leader than Joe Biden, who feeds you lies and who is a race baiter. Just like the “Russian rigging the election”, you have zero evidence and just claims cause you lost in 2016 and a butt hurt from the loss.

    1. @Jon Thomas Hey Jon, why don’t you answer the question? Come on justify your support of the president when he does nothing about the russian bounty.

      <...crickets...>

    2. Even more shameful then the 1,927 criminals Obama let off the hook! The most by any president in history! Hypocrite!

    1. Stone never hurt anybody! Obama let the killer, terrorist, Oscar Lopez Rivera off the hook, as well as 1,927 others.

    1. I pardoned 1,927 criminals, the most by any president in American history! Obama! Hypocrite!
