  1. I think it’s fine, as a Former Viewer I think some minor add ons is fair game, Like what gaming companies does to their Intellectual Property.

Why not make the new gen get better options and I’d the old gen wants in on it.

    They know what to do.

  2. Running a category also brings a little joy, shows subject expertise, and I remember a category run always brings a big cheer. Not big on bonus, but I see the desire to encourage it.

  3. Alex Trebek was what made Jeopardy great. I doubt a little rule change like this will tip the ratings one way or the other…

  4. Sounds like a good change, and something that probably should’ve been implemented years ago.

The people arguing against it remind me of baseball “purists,” that hate anything implemented in baseball that might improve it.

  5. it would be a good change. I like when a category runs from top to bottom. Part of the strategy of hunting and jumping is to throw the rhythm of the game off and throw your competitors off by needing to jump from one line of thinking to another quickly. But it also throws the audience off. I know I am able to answer more when a category goes from top to bottom as their are hints along the way to help with the harder clues.

    1. same here..that ran from 64 to 75…my mother was crazy about the show…for some reason i remember the questions being a little easier then the ones today.

  6. I love it! Should have been done years ago! Makes it more exciting to see, plus its cool to kno that even if the contestant didn’t win the game they go home with dolla-dolla bills. Thats why u play the game, get those dolla-dolla bills.

  7. you can still “Run” a category by buzzing in 1st, and answering each clue correctly in any $ amount order…it doesnt have to be Top to Bottom…

  8. I’ve known for a long time that the producers and clue writers wanted top down answers/questions. For a long time that was how it was done. I was surprised to see the first time someone started at the bottom. It makes sense, but I do miss the progressive development of the categories. Maybe this will address that…but maybe not.

  9. 2:27 First of all, sure they can, it’s their show, they can change it even if it angers viewers, but second, WHY would it anger viewers? It’s hardly a bad thing, because third, it’s actually _necessary_ for them to do this because after 38 of the current version, changing it is EXACTLY what they need to to do keep it fresh and interesting because there isn’t exactly a deluge of new viewers flooding in (zoomers are the most anti-intellectual generation yet), and many old viewers have grown tired of it.

As for the this specific change, it’s good and definitely useful if it helps people stop doing that trashy annoying brain-dead strategy that James used. It was NOT clever, it was counterproductive for players and extremely irritating for viewers, and ultimately, the show has to cater to viewers. Also, the effect wore off after a while and became pointless anyway. 😒
