Georgia sheriff: Rayshard Brooks shooting was justified

Burke County, Georgia, Sheriff Alfonzo Williams says that based on his experience in law enforcement and what he's seen so far on the videos, the officers involved in the fatal shooting of Rayshard Brooks acted properly and their actions are "completely justified." Sheriff Williams also said this case was very different than the Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd cases.

    1. He wrote a letter, strongly worded I’m sure & then… Someone read it & trashed it! Imagine if THAT was how everyone handled “outrage”!? What a disappointment.

    2. I am outraged that:

      A. he supports shooting a man in the back,
      B. never once spoke on how the officer could have descalated the situation,

      C. never explained how a man, even if drunk, while parked in a private parking lot, minding his business is quilty of a criminal offense.

      D. and that horrible jacket.

    1. Every network included he was Black. It’s a part of what’s going on. Do you ask why Black is included in Black lives matter?

    2. IKR…they need to stop with this BS. Or from now on put everyone’s nationality in front of their name and title…geez!!!

  1. I’m not even from the US and I know never to point anything at a cop especially a projectile

    1. @Cropper Copper I don’t know about “in defense” when he was running away, in defense would be when he was tryna wrestle the two of ’em on the ground; but regardless of that, as a black man in Amerikkka, you should not be drunk fighting a cop and then stealing his taser and firing it back at him… that’s is just beyond dumb and I’m so disappointed, not in the two cops who were so patient and showed restraint during the attempted arrest, but in Rayshard Brooks. He should have known when to stop resisting.

    2. urbanimage , i can asume a lot of situations !
1 policeman dead and 1 person dead.
But what I m sure is that “ this man that died “ has played with fire and he got burned.
      A lot of if’s ….

    1. @Krypt2 Knight You are out of your mind if you think Brooks shooting at an officer, with the other officers taser, trying to render that cop defenseless and incapacitated and vulnerable isnt a threat to his life. Its a threat and a crime. Brooks running the other way didnt reduce his threat level, because he shot at the officer while running. Get real.

    2. Well we needed to shoot and killed because of all the laws and broken many laws in our face and his action.

    3. @Vlad the Inhaler Vlad you are a imperfect man capable of doing bad deeds as well. Think of all the stupid things you got away with. After all a man can lie and cheat and steal from people who invest in his business and still become President of the United states. So
don’t Judge anyone. And if you think that you are a perfect human being. Then you are the one that is insane.

    4. @BRIAN Murphy right off the bat you are making false assumptions. I never said I was perfect or incapable of doing wrong, that was you assuming that. As far as judging people, everyone judges people even you. So don’t be an presumptuous hypocrite.

    5. @altpth@cfk “If you fight with the police while drunk [sic] expect to be killed.” The answer is: Yes. Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes. This thug, Raytard, committed several felonies and intended on injuring the police. So shooting was an appropriate response. Thug lives don’t matter!!

  2. As a part of training police and security have to be tazzed before qualifications with a tazer. Now with two officers there and a tazzer can only be used once. So the other officer can shot if the suspect approaches the other officer if he were to become incapacitated. That’s the whole reason two cops respond to an incident to Bear witness or aid the other officer if there’s a problem. There was no threat to life.

    1. Brooks attacked police officers and also beat up his own kids. His own family turned him in and that’s why had been in prison. He was also a drunk driver, making him even more of a threat.

  3. I agree also. The fact that he acted so aggressively and even laid a finger on the taser is enough to be considered a threat to their lives.

    1. @JJ the Terrible Only because their are more whites than blacks. But murder is murder it’s wrong.

  4. Aren’t the tasers a one shot deal though?I though you had to reload the charges or the pins in between shots

    1. How about the guy just man up an take the DUI?? He was drunk AF an didn’t even know where he was at lol

The cops were very professional an did their job correct. Not their fault this idiot decided to attack them, take their taser an shoot it at them.

If I attacked the cops, try to shoot at them an get shot in the process then that’s on me. Don’t blame the cops for this guy breaking the law.

He shouldn’t of been drinking an driving. He shouldn’t of attacked the cops. He shouldn’t of took the cops taser. He shouldn’t of ran away. He shouldn’t of shot at the cops. IDC what color you are just stop breaking the dam law if you can’t handle the consequences.

    2. @Margaret Nicol He absolutely was the aggressor. He committed several felonies when he attacked cops, punched one in the face, stole their taser, fired it at them. In the span of a minute, he proved himself to be violent and dangerous. When he left with taser, who else was he going to use it on? Maybe to steal a car from a customer coming out of Wendys. Furthermore, you don’t just get to run away from cops trying to arrest you, especially if you’re a drunk driver because drunk drivers KILL people.

  5. I definitely agree with everything this guy is saying. Definitely, definitely so. Very, very unfortunate event that took place.

    1. Maargen Bx That one question hinted at racial profiling. That is part of the mainstream narrative. You try to whitewash it by not restating the essence of the question.

    2. TehKaiser: Everybody is discussing racial profiling in connection to this story, what kind of interview would this be if she didn’t address it?? Asking the question directly gives him a chance to refute it directly, which he did.

    1. Todd Eldridge, if he got the gun and pointed it at the police officer, it warrants the cops to fire a fatal shot at and kill him.

But the fact is Rayshard was idiotically running away and the cop’s life was not in danger. You cannot shoot the back of a man specially if you are police officer. That’s just plain stupid.

    2. @vusisemwayo exactly. The city should have to pay big money for this man’s life and these jokers should be reprimanded and put on desk duty if not lose their jobs. Minimum! and if there is any criminal liability, charge they asses. Come on white police chief come on!

    3. @Sui_Jay i so agree so many people are lifting up these scum of society (criminals) used to be we looked up and praised law abiding heros and now people are jumping the the defense of good for nothing criminals

  6. WTF??!? I’m sickened. Not by his professional opinion, which I do not fully agree with, but by the labeling of this man as a Black Georgia Sheriff. WOW, CNN! That is shameful to label this man as such, intent to influence the public here. He is simply a sheriff.

    1. That’s exactly what she’s trying to do, she’s always doing that. But I’m still a fan of CNN

  7. He fired a taser at a police officer, and could have taken away his service weapon and killed him during incapacitation.

    1. And the officer Partner could have gone inside for a burger at Wendy’s or Mr Brooks could have transformed into a Super Saiyan.

    2. Why was he being arrested in the first place, he offered to walk home, it could of ended differently if he was white, end of story..

  8. WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO LEARN STOP SCREWING WITH THE POLICE, THEY WILL SHOOT YOU, IF YOU POINT A WEAPON AT THEM. (SELFPRESERVATION )

  9. I love how the sheriff has 30 years of experience, knows how to handle those types of situations better than anyone. He knows more about arrests and police shootings than 100% of BLM supporters, and somehow the stupid interviewer doesn’t get this. It’s ridiculous how dumb she is and the worst part is she believes she is right.
