GOP Votes To Make Juneteenth Holiday While Trying To Ban Teaching It

Sen. Cornyn endorsed the vote to make Juneteenth a federal holiday. But he also supports the Texas law just signed by Governor Greg Abbott making it harder to teach about the history of white supremacy and racial hierarchy in America.

  1. In the 1869 case Texas v. White, the court held that individual states could not unilaterally secede from the Union and that the acts of the insurgent Texas Legislature — even if ratified by a majority of Texans — were “absolutely null.”

If there were any doubt remaining after that, late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia set it to rest more than a century later with his response to a letter from a screenwriter in 2006 asking if there is a legal basis for secession.

“The answer is clear,” Scalia wrote. “If there was any constitutional issue resolved by the Civil War, it is that there is no right to secede. Hence, in the Pledge of Allegiance, ‘one Nation, INDIVISIBLE”

  2. Native Americans were used as slaves and indentured servants through adoption well into the 20th century.

    1. This is true, and I don’t understand why there’s absolutely, no representation, in Congress or the Senate.

    1. @B Taylor So shooting an unarmed trespasser is justified? The same FBI that let Hillary Clinton off the hook for obstructing a criminal investigation into her. No thanks. An insurrection is when armed militants storm the capital trying to take over the government. This was not an insurrection, just another example of the LEFT USING HYPERBOLIC WORDS AS A WEAPON.

    2. @B Taylor The Left always weaponizes words, the same way they did during the Amy Coney Barrett confirmation hearings. The Left was actively changing the definition of words in the dictionary; that’s disturbing.

    3. Exactly. Now let them tell the History of Anthony Johnson. The Founder of Legalized Slavery which was a Free Black Man. He started it all.

  3. In Colorado we’ve celebrated Juneteenth for years, 5 Points was known as “the Harlem of the West” for a long time. I’m happy to see it’s a holiday, but election day should be a holiday too…

  4. …and it only took 155 years since the first confederate memorial day was celebrated Yep, progress. Now, can we get Rand to sign on to an anti-lynching bill, or is it still too problematic?

  5. ill be honest i never new what Juneteenth was before last year. I had to look it up. weather i forgot i was taught in high school some 30 years ago or i was never taught about it.

  6. Critical race theory is when you teach people about the slavery and the KKK. The more you teach people about slavery and the KKK, the more crt something becomes.

  7. is the actual history of America. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it go away. And it shouldn’t. I’m English and as a kid in school we learnt about the slave trade and it’s horrors and hopefully I came out a better person learning this.

  8. *MARJORY TAILER GREEN* at the Haulocost Museum shows exactly WHY they are desperate to keep critical race theory out of schools…

She goes in “Masks are like the holocaust* and comes out “OMG NOTHING is like the holocaust – we must never let this happen again” EDUCATION changes minds and behaviour…
