More than half of New York City's population can expect to be infected by the coronavirus, Mayor Bill de Blasio said. Most will suffer only a "mild experience," but many will become very sick, and "we are going to lose some people," he said.

April will be tough and May tougher before the virus crisis eases, he said. The city has seen 192 deaths so far, and there are more than 26,000 confirmed cases of the virus statewide, according to the Hopkins dashboard.

  1. Rolling deployment works! It’s how the Army rolls through a battle! And we are in a battle! Trump’s afraid of Cuomo’s strategy cuz it makes him look even worse right now.

    1. @Jennifer Then we would hear Cuomo say – I can’t unplug anyone, what do you want me to do? Those other states should have been prepared for me not giving them back. The real question is why did he pass on issue back in 2015? A 2015 New York state report said that in the case of a “severe” pandemic, the state would be short about 16,000 ventilators. The state did not plan to increase its ventilator stockpile because it anticipated that in the event of a severe crisis, there would be shortage of trained staff to operate them and demand would outweigh any emergency stockpile. The report said the state had to balance the likely ventilator shortage with the need for adequate funding for current and ongoing health care expenses.

    2. @Jennifer but NYS does NOT have all the ventilators. trump could get companies to make ventilations like Canada is. We don’t hear about a disaster with our neighbors in the north. It was a good decision for them to close the border with the US.

    3. @Layton there is a national reserve that was created under the Clinton administration for situations just like these. Cuomo would like to see more ventilators being manufactured in order to have a bigger supply for everyone.

    4. @V J They are doing that, Trump sent him 4000 ventilators. It will take time to manufacture new ones, setup supply lines etc.

    1. no, flatten the curve means a lower top and a much longer time of patients, the virus will stay for 10-20-30 years. Believe me.

  2. 3% of patients in ICU beds and Cuomo wants 50,000 ventilators. Asked if he has gotten the vents out of his stockpile and he said “NO” and asked why and he says “because no hospital has contacted him for one” – OMG

    1. Ursula Lisiakowski He is setting up the Javits center getting ready. He is asking the army to be deployed because they have trained personnel for the ventilators that might be coming from China, Europe or anywhere else that manufactures these now or in the near future.

    2. I think he should’ve ignored the projections and not planned, don’t you? I mean the selfish way he stated he would send unneeded staff and equipment to other states. OUTRAGEOUS!!!

    3. @magna czagany you will not be getting a single ventilators from Europe.. because every country in Europe has a shortage.. try and pay attention Europe is worse hit than the US.. every country in the world is attempting to buy more ventilators… if they are not US made you are not getting anymore.

  3. tough situation, all things said, I think he’s doing well. It’s a big burden. I don’t always back some of the other stuff he’s done but he’s doing ok I think. NY Strong baby!

  4. What a kook! Sanctuary State = #1 in the country in infections.

Like a drug addict, he refuses to admit the cause and the problem, but let’s get those federal government handouts.

Cuomo was the #1 reason we left that toilet and I’m glad we did.

    1. @Wolf Blitzer less than 1% of people in US are thin and healthy. And being thin does not guarantee a healthy immunity. Fact is most thin people who eat the Standard American Diet are thin because they are ill. The Standard American Diet kills. Most of the elderly ARE thin.

  5. Cuomo is right. New York is just first. Look at Italy, it was first. The question is, what city will be next, and after? Why can’t we just go on a globalLockdown.

    1. We kinda are… 1.3 billion indians. Half of europe. African countries are locking down. Its happening and its crazy. What a disaster.
The part that worries me the most is the amount of people that will likely die in third world countries.

  6. Praying for our COUNTRY. How bout Congress pass a bill to use death row inmates as lab rats to find the cure and vaccine.

  7. unfortunately, his speech will eventually change. not by choice, but by need. i trully hope i’m wrong. stay home ppl

  8. When reckless #politicians release criminals out on our streets, God allows situations where His children can remain safely indoors. #CoronavirusOutbreak

  9. The war is not against the beer virus, its against these insane power tripping criminal politicians…Welcome to the streets of Germany 1942.
