GOVERNMENT DEMONSTRATES ITS COMMITMENT TO IMPROVING THE LIVES OF THE ELDERLY

One-day consultation on “Yes we Care”   initiative set for Fort Young on Monday

 

Roseau, Dominica – August 22, 2008………On Monday, August 25, 2008, the Government of Dominica through the Ministry of Community Development, Culture, Gender Affairs and Information will convene a one -day consultation on a new initiative for the elderly ” Yes we Care”.  

 

Yes we Care is the brainchild of Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit. It is aimed at improving the living conditions of the elderly. To this end the Government has convened a one-day consultation on Monday with the intention of formulating a programme with the assistance of a number of interested parties and stakeholder organisations.

 

Participants at the consultation will include officials from the Ministry of Health, Welfare Division, Council on Ageing, Ministry of Finance, NGOs/Civic Organisations, Caregivers and local authorities.

 

At the opening ceremony there will be addresses by Acting Prime Minister, Hon.        Ambrose George and Minister for Community Development, Hon. Loreen Bannis-Roberts.

 

The consultation will also feature a Situation Analysis on the Elderly in Dominica by Dr.                   Paul Ricketts.

 

Registration will commence at 8.30am with the opening ceremony starting at 9am.
