Grenada’s farmers worry about industry take-over

SOME FARMERS AND INDUSTRY OFFICIALS IN GRENADA say they are very wary of a government proposal to merge organisations for nutmeg and cocoa farmers.

The government has proposed a merger of the farmer driver organizations – the Grenada Co-Operative Nutmeg Association – GCA – and the Grenada Cocoa Association – GCA.

Grenada is the second biggest exporter of nutmegs in the world, and it also produces what is regarded to be some of the finest cocoa in the world.

The two crops provide the bulk of the island’s agricultural export earnings.

Linda Braveboy reports.
