Richard Phillips is the longest-serving inmate to win exoneration in American history. He spent nearly a half a century in prison for a crime he didn't commit.

  1. This also shows the harm death penalty can potentially inflict. The judgements are never infallible, in fact, they are far from it. There must always be a scope for reversal.

    1. 50 years for 1.5M … definitely not worth it man he lost everything has to reteach himself the everydays EVERYDAY. What was so remarkable about the clip is that He never looked resentful or sad or pissed or any of the other emotions I felt for him just hearing the story and seeing and realizing that could have been me in another Lifetime. Best thing he said You have to learn to dance in the Rain when it storms outside. In this current time, Coronavirus shitty politics etc…,,, Those words gave me a Hope and i will hold on to this until my last breath

    1. Mimi Brown IRS used to tax prisoner compensation. That changed this year, and people can file for the return of taxes already collected on wrongful imprisonment awards.

  2. He’s seems less bitter and cynical than many of the ppl who’ve been bitching about being at home for a month

    1. @jeck jeck listen fat, you can’t send a man to the moon if there’s a hole in the canoe. I’ll tell you this, coronavirus ain’t no thang. Back in my day we didn’t call it the…the…the thing, we called it the Shanghai Shivers.

    2. @jeck jeck there’s no time for rest buckaroo! You can always do one more pushup, and touch one supple young person inappropriately while sniffing their soul out of their ear. Gotdamn that makes my body tingle!

    3. Cuomo hitting it right on. Telling the truth!!! What he’s saying is the TRUTH about the mentality GOP leaders. With that said, People are still voting for what they say should be “The American Way”. So what’s that tell ya?🤔

  3. This man is a walking, talking miracle. He seems to be at peace… I hope he can live the rest of his life peacefully

    1. @Kathleen Flacy the hell it doesn’t sister! Barry may be my bff with benefits, but he had 8 years to help this jive turkey. This here thang is practically divine intervention. If only Ol’ CornPop Jackson could see this.

    2. Joementia Biden you obviously don’t know how bills and laws are made. The black congressional caucus worked on that legislation for many years… before PeeOTUS took office. All that orange 💩 did was what he was supposed to do… sign the bill.
Plus as Erickson Compere mentioned that law had nothing to do with his release. I know PeeOTUS loves the poorly educated… but you can try and do better

    3. I love the universe. Not many people could do 50 years and not be bitter and vengeful. I see it as a miracle 🙂

    4. @Mimi Brown they worked on it for years, but it took Trump to close the deal buckaroo. That’s why I’m running for Senate in the state of Confusion.

    5. Joementia Biden lol… you’re a moron. If you were president (which is completely possible with the bar being so low) you could’ve signed it

  4. A lot of inhumane comments as you can see but, I wish the brotha peace and blessings. You’ve been robbed of a whole lot. I hope you can heal your family. Your little boy and girl.😢

  5. I haven’t heard that saying so long I remember my daddy saying that he’s from the Dirty South he used to say no matter how hard life get at all the water that comes down can you dance in the rain around the pain if you can do that you can adjust to anything and be a better person I haven’t heard that in forty stop me is you have a good day man I’m glad you out of jail and I’m glad you found your net but make no mistake about it there are other brother feel a locked up in the in prison today and did those that help you get out thank you but there are many more to help don’t stop now continue your journey

  6. God bless this man. He retained his positivity and his sanity through art. He deserves more than the money he got. He deserves good health and a happy rest of his life. 🙏👍✌️💪

  7. I think he deserves way more than 1.5m for 47 years of life and freedom that was taken away from him.

  8. $52 million…1 million for every year he was wrongly incarcerated and $2 million for the lost relationship with his 2 children. The prison system only wants a conviction even if its the wrong person and needs major reforming but the real criminals, the ones in the ivory towers, need to be locked up…smh

    1. The prison system in this country WILL NEVER BE REFORMED, EVER!!! So let’s just get that out of the way.. Anything that’s big business in America will NEVER go away. Why do you thing the pharmaceutical companies can make trillions of dollars on medication to keep you alive just a little longer but no one can ever find a cure for diseases and deadly viruses despite billions of dollars in research. Why do you think the so called, “greatest country in the world, ” incarcerate more people in the world than any other country? We incarcerate and fine people for petty crimes and then will tack on more fines and jail time as needed for non violent offenses…Fines, court; jail, prison is a billion dollar industry in the LAND of the FREE……. Free to PILLAGE you until the country can extract every dime from you through cost of living expenses, medication costs, poor healthcare, daycare, housing costs, and exorbitant college tuitions until you are broken!!! HOME of the BRAVE. So brave that we have been at war with small feeble countries like Afghanistan and Iraq for almost 20 years and counting with no end in sight…So strong that we bullied an outgunned, poor country like Iran into submission..So strong that we bullied little Ukraine and held back weapons in order to get dirt on a political opponent. So strong that we would not dare step out of line with Russia or China if they interfered with our sacred elections right??? That would be like an act of war right?? We wouldnt confront China with threats of military action for sending viruses and pandemics over the past 2 decades to our shores wiping out hundreds and thousands of our countrymen right?? Yup. Land of the free, home of the brave.

    2. @Don Hardcastle A fool is known by his multitude of words. Now I know who you are. You are right wing extremist conspiracy hack.. You live in a world mired by alternative facts(lies) and hate. You live your life defending the worst, corrupt, incompetent, lying, criminal president in the history of the USA and that is FACT.. No other president had his personal lawyer and 5 other buddies go to jail for lying and corruption. No other president was impeached in their first 4 years in office. 10 counts of obstruction of justice, 150 secret meetings with Russia that they lied about. Paying off porn whores with campaign finance money. TRYING TO WITHOLD AID FROM UKRAINE AND GIT CAUGHT. REFUSE TO GIVE UP TAXES BECAUSE HE KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. LOL.LOL.LOL. You have a felon for your president lol.lol.

” Donald Trump now looks like the front-runner to be the Republican candidate for the US presidency. One of his big appeals is his business success – and his claim that his wealth means he can’t be bought and sold. But there’s evidence which not only casts doubt on Trump’s wealth claims – but also reveals his history of business relationships with figures connected to organised crime. John Sweeney reports.

Newsnight is the BBC’s flagship news and current affairs TV programme – with analysis, debate, exclusives, and robust interviews. “

  9. I hope he can find his family, his children, his heart of hearts after all he’s suffered. Bless him and the light of his soul shining through his art.

  10. *The justice system in the most advanced country in the world is an absolute shameful joke. “Innocent until proven guilty” my a$$.*

    1. There is no for-profit prison/criminal justice system (which manufactures criminals) in a democracy worthy of the name. The US is not a free country at all on this measure alone.

    2. Very true, but makes you think you’re the most advanced country in the world? You’re the wealthiest and most powerful to be sure. But most advanced? Dostoyevsky said that “a society should be judged not by how it treats its outstanding citizens, but by how it treats its criminals.” In another gem he said “the degree of civilisation in a society can be judged by entering its prisons.” Fun fact: you imprison more people per capita than any country in the world. A vastly disproportionate number of those come from so-called minorities.

  11. This is sickening how the judicial system screw black ppl over. God Bless this man and his strength.😍

  12. “It’s not so much the storms that you have to go through, it’s whether or not you can dance in the rain.”

  13. “It’s not so much the storms you have to go through…it’s whether or not you can dance in the rain” Powerful statement!!!!!
