Here’s Proof That AR-15s Are Weapons Of War | The Beat With Ari Melber | MSNBC

The death toll from the shooting in Colorado may be unusual in most countries, but it’s common in the U.S. because the alleged killer used an “AR-15 style rifle,” a weapon explicitly meant for going on offense and not defense. In this special report, MSNBC’s Ari Melber traces the origins of the weapon and its intended use, how civilians came about using it in increasing numbers, and what makes it so deadly. This is an excerpt from a longer special report. Aired on 03/23/2021.

Here’s Proof That AR-15s Are Weapons Of War | The Beat With Ari Melber | MSNBC

  1. I was wondering why there haven’t been many school shootings recently, and then I remembered it’s because there hasn’t been school!

    1. the school has only been closed 4 months last school shooting was 3 years ago before that 5 its not a norm like cnn msnbc tell you an the ar15 is not the problem its the people .

    2. @matthewjames Yeah Matt,, it’s totally fine to have “some” school shootings, just as long as it’s less than 1 per month, and as long as they are kind of spread out around the country.

    3. @Nick Stein yep, normal for when the Democrat’s are in control, they need mass killings to help push their gun control agenda.

    1. @T Jerrod that’s not what I said. I said that small units sometimes use AR-15s built by companies like Daniel defense. these are not M-4s.

    2. @T Jerrod they’re all custom ordered and I’ve heard some guys have two round burst, though it’s mostly geissele two stage triggers with single-auto.

  2. Moscow Mitch remarked that the Colorado gunmen was mentally unbalanced. Yet, he and his cronies oppose background checks.

    1. @matthewjames The examples you just mentioned are ridiculous. I speed all the time doesn’t mean if I owned guns i’m going to go on a shooting rampage. The Parties need to stop treating this like a political football and get together and find real solutions without penalizing sane gun owners.

    2. @Ral Deform That’s why you should FOREVER stay in your own country. Don’t come to the USA. You’re not welcome here.

    3. @matthewjames I’m not sure who you are talking about. Please be specific. We may actually agree on this.

    4. *Less than 300 people killed in a year using ALL long guns which includes AR-15s, compared to 12,000 people died falling down stairs, Joe.*

    5. Him and his cronies oppose Medicare for All. People need to stop focusing on the guns and start focusing on our broken healthcare system.

    1. @Alezander Djeorg Di’Astão actually these last shootings they bought their gun legally. The spa shooter got his gun the same day he applied for one.

    2. @Gerry James Edwards They have mass stabbings, bombings and running people over with cars, instead.

      Japan, meanwhile, has arson.

    3. @Gro Gas It’s against the law to assault or murder yet people continue to do it. The ar 15 isn’t the problem. Certain people are the problem. How many people were killed last year with ar 15 rifles? Less than 300. 350,000,000 people in the us and only 19,000 were killed by firearms. Death by firearm isn’t even top 500 in ways to die in America. Should make you wonder why the media and the politicians spend so much time and $ assaulting firearms and citizens rights to own them.

  3. An AR15 is a semiautomatic rifle. It fires ONE shot at a time just like any other semiautomatic handgun or rifle. There are handguns that have similar velocity to an AR15 and can be just as deadly. I do support background checks for anyone who tries to buy any gun. An AK-47 fires a more devestating round that causes much more damage.Military chose the AR because the ammo is lighter and soldiers could carry more ammunition easier. Background checks are an answer. Not banning any particular weapon.

    1. I thought 5.56 was also designed to not over penetrate like various 7.62 rounds, in the fact it tumbles throughout the body with factors like yaw? You defo right about the semi auto parts, and I wholeheartedly agree on improved background checks in general

  4. Someone explain to me what’s more deadly and easier to conceal? 3 hand guns or one AR 15? Nobody will.

    1. Well, that depends on your objective, doesn’t it? If you are in a confined space or looking to get relatively close then a handgun or pistol is more deadly, if you are in a relatively open space and maximum carnage is your objective then an AR-15 is far more deadly.

    2. @Utha if you would read and actually pay attention to what others say. You would be asking this. So tired of you leftist clowns.

    3. Like I said what’s more deadly and easier to conceal. Didn’t ask in a open field 150 yards away what was more deadly. In a pigly wiggly I’ll take 3 hand guns all day long.

    4. @George Sprague It was a stupid fkn question in the first place. Everyone knows a handgun is far easier to conceal, but why would you want to conceal in the first place, unless you were up to no good? But there’s no reasoning with idiots like you, there’s only one solution in your mind, throwing more guns into the problem is like fighting fire with gas.

  5. You know what else was a weapon of war
    1. Clubs
    2. Sling shot
    3. Cross bow
    4. Bow and arrow
    5. Sword
    6. Spear
    7. Words

  6. Looking in from the outside this is insane how is this weapon made available. I am in Ireland and I am as free as i can possibly be I can say what i want do what I want. I do not feel any less free if I cannot have an AR-15 rifle. I have travelled to America with work and its an amazing place with some really great people why oh why do they have to be in so much danger with these crazy gun laws.

  7. Fact: When AR-15s (firearms) are outlawed, only outlaws will have AR-15s (firearms).
Fact: Laws do not prevent individuals from committing crimes.
Fact: Individuals who are intent on creating mass destruction do not need firearms to do so.
Fact: Only law abiding citizens comply with background checks. Criminals circumvent the lawful process.

    1. Yea, when I made that first statement, I got shadow banned from another comment as a racist nut job. The left is def pushing me away more than the right is now…Good luck 👍🏾

    1. The .223 round from an M16 or M4 is a lethal round esp at targets inside 300 meters. The FMJ round either M193 or M855 will not, however, decapitate or take the limb off and adult with a single impact.

    2. Nope, the bullet is the same caliber as a .22. Just twice the velocity. Thats how a .223/5.56 kills…with velocity.

  8. This was an odd piece. First, it’s no secret the AR-15 is “weapon of war” that needs to be proven; it was specifically developed in the early 1960s as a replacement for the M14 rifle. The military version of the AR-15 (the M16/M4) is essentially an AR-15 with automatic fire capability. Next, the same weapon is used by the military for both offence and defence, so it is not “used explicitly for offence”; whoever wrote the summary obviously has no idea about the military.
As for the killings, though these sorts of mass shootings get the headlines, they make up a rather small percentage of the shootings in the US. If we really want to get this problem under control, hand guns need to be much better regulated, as they are responsible for the majority of gun deaths (suicides, murders, and accidents). No-one really needs an assault rifle, so banning them would be fine with me, but a large drop in gun deaths if they re banned shouldn’t be expected.

  9. “The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” -Thomas Jefferson.

    1. Right if you see someone walking around with an AR 15, you need to take them out before they take you and everyone else out.

    2. Jefferson did not write that. You can find that easily enough by Googling the quote.

It’s amazing that the only quotes by the Founders and Framers the gun nuts can find in favor of their position are either made up or not by who they claim.

    3. Or maybe, just maybe ALL freaking assault rifles should be BANNED! I don’t think arming MORE idiots is gonna solve the problem. Though taking guns away from MEN would. Since 1982 there have been 119 mass shootings. 116 of which were perpetrated by MEN.
