@Crimdor There was a pretty good report from BBC on this. The operation had been going on for some years. There was one small-time drug smuggler who turned to the Russians, seeking to improve his lot in life, and this operation got set up. The drug smuggler was the go-between in Afghanistan and recruited friends and family there for a contact and distribution network. The network has been busted up but the guy who was the go-between managed to escape to Pakistan. The drug smuggler and friends appear to have pocketed sizable chunks of the Russian cash and there’s not much to go on to suggest the operation had much of any real military value. It seems likely that there were at least a few hits on allied forces or the operation would likely not have continued as long as it did with the level of funding it enjoyed but i have no data on that myself and is just my own speculation. This appears to be better intel than Rep. Maloney has yet seen. If i were him, i’d be pretty poed about life in a mushroom factory (kept in the dark, fed a lot of bs) too.
