@Geoff McDaniel it isn’t a trial, it’s an exploratory hearing to see if there was an impeachable offense. There was enough evidence today to find there is enough evidence to turn it over to the Senate where there will be a trial. A 2/3 majority in the Senate is required to remove a president from office.

My family owns 2 world powerlifting federations with 60 affiliated countries including Ukraine and Russia. Our Russian federation put on the largest meet in history with over 2000 lifters and tens of thousands of spectators. I have a girlfriend in Ukraine. I talk to people all over the world almost daily, especially in Europe, east of the UK all the way to Asia. The trump administration is hated worldwide. My friend tell me, if you come to Europe tell the locals you are from Canada or South Africa. I find almost every trump supporter to have preconceived cognitive dissonance so bad you only believe to be true what they want to be true

You assume I want open boarders and free healthcare for all. Well, that is not close to accurate for myself. I honestly don’t know of anyone who wants open boarders. As far as healthcare goes, there is a major problem, and I don’t have a clue how to fix it. I do know that the pharmaceutical industry is part of the problem. While baby boomers were entering retirement years, the then president created Medicare part D. That alone, allowed pharmaceutical companies to charge Medicare $3000 dollars for a $6.00 pill. In my opinion, this one example of immense greed, and in this case, directly paid for by taxpayers. I don’t know the answer. Personally, today, my monthly health insurance premium (just me) has exceeded that which we paid for a family of three in 2004. In 2004 everything was covered, today’s is good for something catastrophic. Fortunately, I am able to pay it, but can understand how many Americans cannot. In closing, I do not agree with anyone 100% of the time, parties included. Best to you.

During the 2016 Republican primary campaign, The Washington Free Beacon, an American conservative political journalism website primarily funded by the Republican NEVER-TRUMP donor Paul Singer, HIRED the American research firm Fusion GPS to conduct general opposition research on several Republican presidential candidates, including Trump.

Christopher Steele, at the time, a private citizen not working for a foreign power, was HIRED. Steele did not email Hillary out of the blue. Nor did Hillary write back IF TRUE, I LOVE IT. Steele handed over his dossier to the FBI.
There is a difference between hiring a person who happens to have worked and lived in a friendly foreign country and someone coming directly from an adversary foreign country coming directly to you or you seeking out assistance from a vulnerable foreign country.
Trumpers say that if the information is paid or not it is irrelevant and if the person who was hired is a foreigner the results are the same: foreign intelligence sources.
That is a completely wrong analysis. It is far more complicated than that. Yes, it does matter WHO received money or gifts or info. Yes, it matters HOW the money, gifts or info was obtained. Yes, logistics does matter. The interests of the Russians matter. Who was acting on the behalf of whom – that does matters.
The Steele dossier merged out from Fusion GPS which was funded by the Republican donor Paul Singer to get dirt on Trump. Singer was part of the NEVER TRUMP group.
Steele is an experienced former spy agent who worked on gathering intel on Russia. Russia is his field of expertise.
Steele was a private citizen.
Steele was hired. He was working on BEHALF of a group of Americans who hired him.
Steele was given a set of directives.
Steel interviewed many sources.
Steele was given instruction to find a relationship between Trump and Russia which makes the very nature being OVERSEES.
The dossier was handed over to the FBI.
Do you not understand why it is wrong to accept information (voluntarily given freely or especially made under duress) on a campaign opponent from a foreign adversary or a foreign government under threat from RUSSIA? REALLY? A candidate does not know if the information they receive is compromised. A candidate does not know what the agenda is of the foreign “assistance”. A candidate has no idea what the motive is. The foreign government is acting on their own interest ….they have no interest in the goodwill of the US.
During the 2016 election, what Trump did was ask Russia to do something ILLEGAL which was to STEAL emails from a candidate. THAT IS THEFT. Next, Trump was willing to accept meeting Russians acting on the behalf of a foreign government. THIS IS WRONG. THIS IS AGAINST THE FEC LAWS.
Again, . A candidate has no idea what the motive is. The foreign government is acting on their own interest ….they have no interest in the goodwill of the US.
During Trump’s summer interview (at the time Trump was pressuring Ukraine for dirt on Biden) with George Stephanopoulos, Trump was spending time with Ukraine trying to find dirt on Biden. As soon as Trump went on the air and confirmed that he would be willing to accept campaign help against his political rivals…that was a CLUE that something was up. That was a warning that Trump was up to something.
When Trump stated his open willingness to ‘listen’ and take a ‘look’ it would have invited outside foreign powers to look at how they could get closer to Trump. It was an open invitation to corruption. It must have been quite disturbing to the FBI. Intel agencies around the world must have jumped on Trump’s words and started to translated them. Some spy agencies like MI6 whose duty is to protect Democracy would have to add to their portfolio additional efforts to examine anything coming out of the Whitehouse. They are now going to be highly suspicious of the Whitehouse. Now, there will always be a cloud over Whitehouse and their intentions.
On the other side, there are spy agencies such as the heirs of the old KGB, FSB (Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation) and the SVR (Foreign Intelligence Service) are now gleeful knowing that the Whitehouse is easily bought. There will be folders on each candidate detailing their weaknesses and how best to use those weaknesses for their own interests. They got a foothold in our election process.
You would think that it would be easy to understand why a presidential candidate MUST NEVER EVER ACCEPT ASSISTANCE FROM A FOREIGN POWER. But Trump has no appreciation for the magnitude of the office.

Russia had basically INVADED our country using cyber warfare. Russia attacked our election. This is the same as a declaration of war. No one has a positive relationship with an enemy during war. Did Roosevelt have a cozy relationship with Hitler?
In the past, if a foreign country invaded our borders with conventional weapons to destroy our government, way of life, institutions, elections, freedom of speech….we all be freaking out. We would be defending and fighting the bloody fight.
Today, a foreign country has done the same but not with conventional weapons. There were no guns involved and there were no bodies, but our government, way of life, institutions and elections and freedom of speech has been undermined. And no one does a thing to stop it.
I guess it is easier for the masses to get galvanized and willing to fight by the sight of weapons and dead bodies. However, when it is covert and complicated and abstract – then not even a whisper is voiced.
Are Americans too dumb to understand this kind of threat so that’s why they don’t care?
Those who ignore Putin do so at their own peril…this includes Obama and everyone else who thought the Cold War was over….Russia was simply biding its time…PATIENCE can be a deadly weapon.
Russia has a very long history of expansion from the Days of Sophia (Ivan the Terrible’s mother to Peter the Great and Elizabeth to Catherine the Great and the Soviets). Power was expanded from Prince to Czar (Russian version for Caesar) Land had been conquered.
The first true time Russia lost face was in the 1980 and 1990’s. It is from that time period which Russia is trying to emerge out of. In their eyes, they lost everything. Now Putin (who sharpen his teeth during those years) is getting his Imperial empire back.
Because of demographic changes (declining population) at work in Russia (and America as well but we have suffered less from it because of immigration! There is an upside to immigration!) in 50 ish years Russia will not be able to field a strong enough army to have even a slight chance of even defending itself much less coming out on top in any conflict with a major world power.
The Russian population has been contracting since the early 1980s, and like most developed countries will likely see it’s population cease to grow. America would have had NEGATIVE population growth since the late 1970s if not for immigration. And any good economists will tell you negative population growth has serious repercussions and can cause major problems to an economy.
The issues of population growth are even more serious militarily. As nations develop their citizens tend to stop having large numbers of children and many so called “rich” countries have seen population contractions like Russia is expected to face in the next 50 or so years.
Putin is many things; a murderous dictator, a corrupt politician, and worldwide leader in fraud and bribery. But one thing he is not, is stupid. Putin knows that he will have serious problems raising a credible defense, as far as personnel, in the coming decades. That is exactly why he is moving to do what Russia always has done when it feels threatened; create BUFFER ZONES.
Their control of the territory east of the Ural mountains, Siberia, Kamchatka, the Lake Baikal region, all the way to Vladivostok was originally concurred to provide a “Backyard” safe zone to retreat to if their worst fears should come to pass. And it HAS come to pass several times in the last couple hundred years. That fear is an invasion across the wide, flat, resource-rich, easily crossed Northern European Plain. A vast flat area that extends basically from France through Germany Poland and right up to the Russian border. This swift land rout with no real geological choke points or large sections of uncrossable rivers, is heavily developed with ample rail and traffic bridges. Russia has been invaded across this huge grassland several times and for the last couple centuries has endeavored to gain control of Ukraine (which I think translates into basically “border land” or something similar) the Latvian countries, and the Baltic states. Maintaining control of this area is key to Russian security.
And as a result of many invasions of Russia over the centuries the Russian state, just like the Communist Soviet state and the Czars before them have become obsessed with ensuring the survival of the state. The people of Russia exist to protect the State! Not the government existing to protect the people as we tend to think of things in the West. It is a very strange, deeply ingrained phycological pattern and system to enforce the survival of the Russian state, over the survival of the Russian people.
All nations are “obsessed” with survival, all people, indeed all living things are. But the Russian state has a twisted pathology, that it has come by honestly, as a result of repeated invasion by the historically richer more prosperous nations of Europe, who have had an easy access right up to the gates of Moscow (Moscow is the true heart of Russia, when Russians refer to protecting Russia they typically mean protecting Moscow) by quickly moving armies across the uninterrupted, flat Northern European Plain.
So Russia is pushed by history, by geology, and by future demographics to try to secure buffer zones between Moscow and the only path into Russia that wouldn’t require crossing a MAJOR mountain range or large body of water, and to secure them NOW!!! While Russia is relatively strong and has a chance.
Ukraine, Crimea, Poland, Hungary, etc are ALL BESIEGED by Putin’s best efforts at buffer state policy and Putin is actually fighting a FRANTIC battle on ALL FRONTS, to corrupt these states and crush resistance. The ONLY difference, now, is that much of his war is fought in Cyber Space, as WELL as on the ground. We are seeing AND FEELING that war, which has extended into EVERY SINGLE Nation on the GLOBE, and Trump is one piece, perhaps Putin’s most important piece, on a VAST Chessboard.
Russia will not invade Europe nor USA. But they will exercise influence and control through quiet covert means. These are not conventional weapons. Russia will not invade using guns, tanks, soldiers in uniform but through our social media. This is by far easier than most Americans think. Create discord through lies – on BOTH sides of the political spectrum. What better way to cause chaos by ensuring people do not know what is up or down, what is right or wrong. BY manipulating certain groups with more or less disinformation, Russia can nearly guarantee their choice to win elections and destroy support for certain laws or issues.
Yes (aside from direct contact with Trump) Russia meddled with both GOP and Democrats using communication and data tools. Cambridge Analytical was a tool or many in the service of Putin by strategically placing ads and news. Russian bots from villages in the old Soviet empire and SEATTLE created false users and political groups for Hilary or Trump. They helped organize protestors and living room get-togethers. 13 Russians were indicted precisely for their efforts in sabotaging our social media. A female Russian agent who was living in Seattle who ran one of these blogging networks had to flee the USA before she was questioned.
It is sad when Americans distrust and villainize other Americans without batting an eye to the real cause – Russia. We are falling behind in our understanding of the new warfare and type of weapons. Don’t look for the dead bodies of soldiers….look for the distrust between Americans.
This is why it is frightening that GOP Senator who swore an oath to protect of liberty has refused bills to be debated (let alone vote) on the issue of Russian meddling.
This is a new means of warfare. Don’t look for tanks – look for talking points that aim for our freedom of press and speech.
