There were 14 hurricanes in 2020, the busiest season since 2005. Here’s how they form and why climate change is making them more intense. RELATED:

Sam strengthened into a hurricane over open Atlantic waters early Friday morning and could become a major storm by Friday night or Saturday, the National Hurricane Center said.

Sam was located about 1,470 miles east-southeast of the Leeward Islands or 2,673 miles east of West Palm Beach as of 5 a.m. EDT Friday. The storm was moving west at 15 mph. The system intensified quickly, going from a tropical depression to a hurricane in less than 24 hours.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 75 mph with rapid intensification forecasted to continue.

  1. It’s not like you can just shut your door to keep the hurricane out as it can take your house and you, if you are in it. I’ve never experienced weather like this and I’m not liking what I’m seeing. I tend to put hurricanes and tornadoes, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in the same box as giant squid, ocean going alligators and sharks. These are things I have absolutely no desire to even get near to. For me these have always been things I understood have to be avoided like -the plague- covid19 and this is getting closer and closer. I can avoid the sea threat but, the weather? Not to worry we have boris back here in dear old blighty. On second thoughts, no, we should be worried. He’s full to bloating with wet hot air (from both ends) and so is a fat hurricane in the making, allegedly. 😉
