Inflation: Loblaws has made record-breaking profits #shorts

Canada's top three grocers all posted higher profits this year compared with their average performances over the last five years, new research from Dalhousie University has found.

Loblaw Companies Ltd. was particularly notable, the report found, as it has outperformed not only its five-year average performance but did better than any of those years individually.

  1. Waste of a study.
Loblaws is only one of many grocers in Canada. Many of them sell household items with big profit margins.
What is the Canadian CPI for fresh produce, dairy/milk, canned goods, and dried foods?
What is the average margin on those categories across the country, provincially and municipally?

  2. That is not how profits work
The profits grow because they are charging more but they are also spending more
If the profit margins grow then they are price gouging

Margins have only grown at grocery stores that have a pharmaceutical department
