Stony Brook professor Helmut Norpoth told Mediaite the model says Trump has a 91% chance of winning. Norpoth created the model in 1996 and has correctly predicted five of the six presidential elections since then, including Trump winning in 2016. He said the model would have been able to determine 25 out of the 27 elections since 1912 when primaries began.
Norpoth said the model uses information from early presidential nominating contests and the enthusiasm each candidate receives early on in the nominating process. He also said Trump will receive more electoral college votes than he did in 2016 — from 304 to 362.
