Johnson: ‘We’re Fighting COVID On One Hand. On The Other Hand We’re Fighting Our Own State’ | MSNBC

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson (D) joins Andrea Mitchell to discuss the move by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) to sue over over Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms's mask mandate, a move Johnson describes as both personal and political. Despite their own mask mandate, Savannah has escaped legal action. Johnson calls the conflict between the mayors and the governors a waste of time and resources, and says, "we’re fighting coronavirus on one hand. On the other hand we’re fighting our own state". Aired on 07/17/2020.

  1. Kemp should issue a mandate to wear masks state-wide. And then let the cities that want to, enforce them. Why is this so difficult?
Oh that’s right, he takes orders from the Commander in Bleach, so even the easiest things are dripping in stupidity.

    1. @Jack Jones How many children in cages apart from their parents are there on the southern border ? Have t you have given any thought to that? Please don’t lecture me on humanity.

    2. @Jimmi B That Constitutional right is not found in the Constitution at all, but is actually based on a presumed right to privacy, and by extension the right of the individual to control his or her on body. If the government has no ability to force someone in the case of an abortion to do something they don’t want to do with their body, because of a presumed right of privacy, even though it will undoubtedly take a life, then what right does it have to invade my privacy and force me to do something I don’t want to with my body, just because it “might” take a life? You don’t get it. This face mask law has more to it than you know. Maybe I should of been a lawyer.

    3. @Mary Cunningham I’m not talking about humanitarianism. I’m talking about at point of law, and the presumed right of privacy. As far as kids in cages goes that’s completely preventable. Don’t break the law, and if you are going to break the law, then don’t bring your child with you when you do it. Seems simple enough to me. No judge in his right mind would return a child to an American citizen, who specifically brought their child along with them when they are breaking a law. Just so they could teach that child to break the law too. Yet you want illegal immigrants to be exempt from the laws of the United States, and exempt from accountability as a responsible parent.

    4. @Jack Jones Sorry I find your response apalling. I’m talking about children. There is a saying pull up the ladder jack I’m alright

    5. @Keith Johnson – Shelby GT500 That is a conundrum. People are entitled to a living wage, but there is no doubt that jobs will be lost because of increases in the minimum wage. It’s damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. I wish I could think of a solution for it. It’s much like the problem of universal health insurance. Everyone is really entitled to it, but if it’s tied to the national budget it would certainly spiral out of control and destroy the economy. It’s already rising astronomically everyday. Greed I believe is the factor behind that. Greed causes things to get done that otherwise would not be done, but it also destroys lives. Capitalism. The worst form of government, except for all the rest. I hope the government has better minds than mine working on this stuff. I’d be interested to know what you think about it.

    1. Keith Johnson – Shelby GT500 dont get mad, Comrade…fix your own country.

      😉🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    2. @William H Music 2020You must feel a need to post this at least once a day. I hope you feel SUCCESS! 😂

    3. @Cliff Medina 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  2. Will conservatives stop destroying the economy and killing people by their refusal to wear masks?!?! Why are they’re insistent on ruining our country?

    1. We need to stop calling them Conservatives when then DON”T want to conserve ANYTHING. They want to drag us all back to the dark ages. Let’s start calling them what THEY REALLY ARE. REGRESSIVES!

    2. Cauze they fear to lose their golden jobs when Donny Debacle is no longer POTUS.
      And because they are hyperstupid.

    3. foxy brown not true and it’s easy to fact check yourself before telling lies. You’re a sycophant footstool.

  3. America is

    23 in education.
    37 in healthcare.
    52 in gender equality.
    No high-speed train.
    Highest number of homeless people.
    Highest number of incarcerated people.
78% of people live paycheck to paycheck.

Stock market is not economy of Americans! Where 90% of money belongs to top 10% of the population, it’s wallet for the rich.

Let’s talk like adults, instead of name calling.

I have left the proof on my playlist, if you would like to check!!

    Let’s make our country better!!

    1. The US also has the highest maternal death rate of all the developed countries and it is the only country where the maternal death rate continues to rise .

    2. @Dead Fan
And exclude intelligence and you are left with trump supporters. Luckily they are the minority 😏

    3. *STUDY: CA Will Lose 400,000 Jobs By 2022 Because Of Minimum Wage Hike*
      Dec 2017 https://www.dailywire.com/news/study-ca-will-lose-400000-jobs-2022-because-hank-berrien

On Thursday, the Employment Policies Institute (EPI) released a new study by Drs. David Macpherson of Trinity University and William Even of Miami University that estimated California will lose 400,000 jobs by the time the $15 minimum wage is fully phased-in by 2022.

The study examined the effects of California’s minimum wage increases over the past three decades. The economists found that each 10% increase in the state’s minimum wage triggers almost 5% of jobs in California lost in industries with a larger percentage of lower-paid employees.

  4. You remind me of my teenage son. Would it help if I took away your wifi? Grow up and behave like sensible grown men.

    1. @i minabrons No just trying to raise kids and make them do the right thing and be responsible adult people. Maybe I should take your Xbox too and you will finally do something usefull. This Covid edition USA is not funny anymore. Oh, I know! Block Twitter.

    2. @The Saw The term shadow boxing was used because your original comment had no point to it. Like someone shaking their fist at an unseen opponent or opponents I couldn’t be sure as you went from singular to plural in your rant.
Now you ramble on almost incoherently about raising kids with a “take away my Xbox” thrown in for some unknown reason. Then there is another non-sequitur referring to Twitter.
You need to do one of two things.
Stop drinking, doing dope, or go back onto your medication.

    1. @Richard Hunt Apparently enough did, they own the Senate.
But not after this year I believe, or the next decade or two.

    2. It took YEARS for the nixon smell to leave the gop.
I don’t think the tRump STENCH will ever come out.

  5. Kemp…like trump…obviously treats women like crap. That’s why the male mayors will get away with it

    1. She embarrassed Kemp when she called out Trump for being without a mask in Atlanta, breaking the mask rule there.

  6. Rethuglicans are facilitating C19 to keep the US sick and dying in order to cancel the vote/steal the election — which explains their deliberate indifference.
Rethuglicans are guilty of negligent homicide.

    1. Cliff Medina you should try but but Tara Reade and but but Hunter again, Cozy Beta.

Seems to be working great to help Puppets train wreck…

      Just kidding.
      🤣🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

      😢🇷🇺

  7. Imagine this. A Governor during a pandemic, is suing folks to make them stop wearing masks. Was his last job at Auschwitz?

    1. @Reg U THANK YOU, He’s Obviously From Georgia, A Day Late, And Short On Brains, It’s A Very Common Malady For Some Folks There.

    3. Terry Kane, you’re on the right track. Trump’s (, Kemp’s, and DeSatan’s) pandemic response is based on a genocidal agenda to diminish the minority population in order to Make America White Again. Any whites who die in the pandemic are just collateral damage and mostly city dwelling Democrats, or old people.

    4. Let’s the anti-maskers contract the virus then spread to their peers. They are simply the stupidest people on earth that the US needs to have less of. They are ignorant of the fact that #DonTheCon and his admin, together with the #RepubliconGovernors, have led the anti-masking campaign whilst at the same time having the privilege of frequent testings and premium treatments if they ever have positive results.

  8. Yep. A national disgrace. The tree of anti-science knownothingism in full bloom. Gee, oh well. 🤷‍♂️

  9. I cannot for the life of me understand the complete mess your country is in. The lack of leadership from Washington is inhumane. Is it because your president can’t anything or is it he won’t do anything?
If a state won’t do much or anything to bring their infection rate down then their borders should be closed.
In Australia where we have just 140 deaths compared to America’s 140,000 deaths. One state, Victoria had some hot spots where 400 infections were discovered. Borders were closed unless certain conditions were met. Break this and an on the spot fine of $4,000 is imposed.
EDIT. Australia has 25 million people and is very similar to America in living standards. If America had done the same as Australia your death total would have been 13 times more than Australia and that would have been just 1,820 deaths. Not 140,000 dead but just 1,820. Someone should pay for this crime.

    1. I couldn’t agree more. Despite the EU underestimating the pandemic at first and then scrambling to put up countermeasures, we got it -mostly – under control. We are a hodgepodge of different nations, cramped together in a rather small sub-continent with several dozens, if not hunderds of parties ranging from the extreme right to the extreme left and everything inbetween. Yet, somehow, our emanaged to join forces and come up with plans, as individual as all countries, to manage this pandemic. The US has only two pajor parties and is descending into a greater disaster than most third world countries.

  10. Woman put on a BRA everyday to look Fit, Men put on a Helmet for protection from Head injuries on Construction sites HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO PUT ON A MASK TO SAVE LIVES?? SMH

  11. Isn’t it time to recall some of these governors? They are hurting their own voters. Luckily I live in a state that is treating this pandemic like it is real. Voters take back your lives. Recall and live.

    1. I checked. the FL constitution has no provision to recall a sitting Governor. In GA it could be done.

  12. 40 YEARS AGO SCOOLS TOLD US RUSSIA HAS ALWAYS TRIED TO CREATE CHAOS AN DISTRUST IN GOV.,MEDIA, HEALTH, JUSTICE SYS., AND OUR ALLIES,,COMRADE TRUMP DID THIS IN 3 1/2 YEARS

  13. Why won’t people wear masks?? What if someone would give you some medicin, that could avoid you getting infected? Would people fight that too? Yes mask might not not be funny, but I bet being dead is’nt too funny either🧐🧐

  14. tell ya, I meet the wrong people, that’s my trouble. Like last week, I met the Surgeon General. He offered me a cigarette.
