Jonathan Capehart: ‘Lt. Nazario Could Have Been Daunte Wright’ | The Last Word | MSNBC

A Virginia police officer has been fired after he pepper sprayed and held at gunpoint a Black Army Lieutenant during a traffic stop in December for a license plate issue similar to the stop that ended in the death of Daunte Wright. Jonathan Capehart tells Lawrence O’Donnell that watching video of the incident is “enraging” and “frightening” and it’s “why a traffic stop is never routine when you’re a Black male in America.” Aired on 04/12/2021.

    1. @Felicia Johns Let me know when you have factual information to support your opinion. Don’t recall any looting and vandalism in relation to any white person killed by police officers. Maybe you have facts that prove my statement false. But I doubt it

    2. @Merritt Network I was born in 1993. Why do you think it’s the whiteys fault for everything. That will get you no where. You act like me and all these white people go around saying I wonder how we can get the blacks today. It’s the political class who’s taking advantage of BOTH OF US. I’m your friend, Joe Biden hates you. I’m your fellow citizen and I care if you’re happy. That’s the truth. We need to move pass black and white . It’s very stupid

    3. @Merritt Network If you were in charge I would hope you would do the right thing. I’d look at you as a human. We had Obama for 8 years and he lied to all of us. Look at my profile picture. His wife was a dude. What else would he lie about?

    4. @Big Mike why do you have to say such disrespectful things about that woman? I just don’t get it. Every president in history has lied to the public. It’s part of their job to try and “control panic” that’s what Trump said right? You guys say your not racist, but you berate the only black president with the most hateful insults, yet some other evil ones that were white are revered. All I’m saying is, if you truly believe these things you say about not being racist, why do your actions say the opposite. Obama sucked, but not as bad as y’all make it seem. I don’t hear any condemning of Bush Jr. I’d rather y’all just tell the truth.

  1. Getting pulled over for a “license plate issue” just not justify resisting arrest for also having an active warrant. This is all standard and correct procedure up until the subject resists arrest jumping into the car, forcing the police into a difficult situation. The female officer who fired the round should not have drawn a firearm, she was obviously not trained properly and thought she was holding a taser. She was completely wrong and should be fired at a minimum. No one needed to die here. However that does not negate the risk associated with resisting arrest/ trying to flee the police and putting officers in a unnecessary stressful and potentially dangerous situation which will inevitably result in the arrest anyway just endangering more lives. Further, running will then force the officers to pursue and causes a risk not only to the one running but the general public in a pursuit. No one I know would run from the police over a simple traffic stop, or worst case scenario an arrest and a court date. Fight in court not on the street unless you are willing to risk your life and the people around you.

    1. @The Morose Pittbull *_”My second response…”_*

Thanks for making my point Champ. Your first response, the one I was replying to, was about the scary ol’ gun. My response was clearly about that and questioned, in detail, WTF it had to do with their initial aggression, and WHEN did they even notice it. You conveniently ignored the holes pointed out in your vapid argument and tried to move on to multiple other bs points… even brought up the UCMJ, as if that was even factored into the pig’s aggression.

Your second response, had $h!t to do with your first one. It’s just a whole list of BULL$h!t cop-apologetic talking points to justify any/every action taken by the Blue Hit Squad.

No one said YOU said it escalated Champ. Your one-sentence response, about the scary ol’ gun, was to the first person questioning the aggression of your Blue Lords and Saviors.

I love how you cross-burners keep changing subjects and moving the goal posts when you get called out on your BS. It’s weak, frail, delicate citizens like you, with _ABSOLUTELY_ no intestinal fortitude, and the propensity to bow down and lick the boots of authority, who helped usher in the rise of the Brown Shirts.

      GTFOH.

      FTP.

    2. @Scottjon Dansteve Look at you crying because you know I never said the gun escalated it 😆

    3. @Scottjon Dansteve By the way loser, the military has strict regulations on transporting and storing firearms. Unless he has a concealed and carry permit, he broke UCMJ. But failures like you wouldn’t know that. You’ve never accomplished anything in your life so you rage and whine online to make yourself feel better at being a LOSER LMAO

  2. 1:45 Doesn’t even remember Daunte’s name and he’s pretending to care about the young man while he’s on the news … 🤦🏽‍♂️

    1. @P Ceezy *You IMPLIED the warrant had everything to do with this young man’s death. Own it and apologize…* 🤷🏻‍♀️

    2. @Heather Mefford what i implied is that attempting to flee from the cops never ends well. You inferred that I said a warrant had everything to do with his death. Thos words never came out of my mouth. And typing in all caps doesn’t make your point more valid 😉

    3. @P Ceezy gross misdemeanor offense of carrying a weapon without a permit and a misdemeanor for fleeing police.

  3. The Lt. didn’t have an arrest warrant
The Lt. didnt freak out of his mind and resist arrest

    1. @Jeffrey Durham It’s just the same and I shouldn’t have to break it down by race. The stats alone speak for themselves.

    2. @Kallia_Vivienna I’m sorry I can’t justify stupidity with a response like that. But I’ll slightly indulge what if Wright would have put his car in reverse and ran the cops over would you all be crying vehicular homicide against him. The moment he jumped into that car he had a dangerous weapon.

    1. @Jrock Az I make judgments all the time, but I try to limit how much control they have over me. I have met many different races and you cannot judge character by skin color!

    2. @Mind of a Dark Horse I wasn’t speaking to color but I was speaking more to if someone looks like trouble or acts suspicious you should probably be ready

    3. @Jrock Az I agree. I don’t discriminate there, trust must be earned no matter the race or creed. Scum comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

  4. Hey everyone if you are a criminal and are caught don’t try to escape the cuffs it will end bad for you

    1. and the LT who cooperated?? i notice most folks folks or trolls here only focussed on the one guy — hello

    2. @Noemy Quinones the lieutenant didn’t cooperate, he drove for over a mile before pulling over… cops sirens were on

  5. I could have been Daunte Wright too! Except for the fact that I don’t have a warrant for my arrest, my car is legally registered, and I have never tried to get away from 3 cops while being handcuffed. Other than that…yep, coulda been me.

    1. @C&B Jones a person sees a bees nest in the woods and knows there’s honey inside, but also lots of bees. They stick their hand inside the nest to get the honey and get stung. Whose fault is it?

    2. @Vincent Sample which is…. you ready for this?! *Contempt of court*, A completely different CRIMINAL charge.

    3. @ZBruh doesn’t matter hoss. Its a warrant that the cops could then be set on you. You seem so bent on being right you don’t even know what the point is anymore.

    4. @Vincent Sample and fact of the matter stands, they dont issue warrants for civil infractions. Only criminal complaints. And Contempt of court is a misdemeanor. Not worth risking a criminal record and jail over a court date for a traffic ticket or jaywalking bud.

    1. @Thomas Monahan You have not be listening then or have selective hearing or visited the BLM website to read what defend means.

    2. @ArchAngel Los Angeles cut their police department by 150 million dollars, cuts will affect their robbery, homicide, gang, and narcotic units. Sounds wonderful! Why don’t you try listening?

    3. @Thomas Monahan You have a one track mind. And your argumentative… it’s a waste of time trying to reason with you to oddly “invested” in this like it’s some religion.

  6. Both gentlemen (2nd Lieutenant Nazario and Daunte Wright) were in new cars. 2nd Lt Nazario is alleged to have been pulled over based upon temporary paper plates (which are perfectly legal). Daunte Wright is alleged to have been pulled over based upon an air freshner hung from his rearview mirror (which tmk is perfectly legal and does not violate any codes).

    1. It actually is not legal to have a hanging air freshener. Its a stupid law, but its the law.
I also think the initial stop was for expired tags but the story is so new I am not sure.

  7. “Show me your hands”, then get told to get out of the vehicle then get shot because you reached for your seatbelt

    1. You know ” He could have take the seat belt and throw it around their necks and choke them to death “

    2. Right, but he never would have gotten to that point if he didn’t drive 1.5 miles without pulling over with the cops behind him with their lights flashing and sirens blazing. He had time to put his cell phone camera on to record his smug face smirking at the cops as he was ignoring their commands. He wanted to cause a problem, and he did.

    3. @Rizeye001 He pulled in to a lighted area because he didn’t feel safe. Even the cop agreed with him.

  8. Brah. Even i was yelling at Lt. Nazario Get out of the car! Just comply and discuss it. Glad that lead cop was fired for this bs and how they treated him.

  9. The chief of police and the cop who shot Wright have resigned. She needs to migrate for Costa Rica now.

  10. What happened to Daunte is a travesty, however he would be alive today if he did not try to flee.
